[edit] History
Summerset Isle has also been referred to as Summerset Isles, encompassing a second smaller island. In addition, it once contained the island system of Pyandonea, who seceded after a war with the King of Summerset. Summerset Isle is inhabited by the Altmer (called High Elves by Imperials), of whom magic is said to flow through their very veins. While the Sload are believed to be the first inhabitants of the Isles, it is believed to be the first province occupied by the Aldmer.
Many spellings have been used for this island's name, including Summurset Isle on the Arena map (also seen in Daggerfall) and Sumurset Isle on a Redguard map. In books, both Summerset and Summurset are commonly used. Also, the plural "Isles" is used at times.
During the game of Oblivion you may overhear NPCs talking about trouble in Summerset Isle, quoting "I hear Daedra worship is becoming increasingly prevalent in the Summerset Isles." and "In the Isles, I hear a boycott of Imperial goods is imminent."
[edit] Geography
Little of the Geography of the Summerset Isles is known. However it is described in A Pocket Guide to the Empire in the sentence; "Cloudrest, atop Eton Nir, the highest mountain in Summerset, is a decidedly odd mixture of architectural styles, with buildings like strangler vines, built on top of other, older structures. The oldest of all ruins there, and in isolated spots throughout the island, are made of coral, which must have been carried many, many, miles away from the sea." [1] This highly suggests original occupation by the Sload.
[edit] Politics
The Isles are divided into different Social Classes, starting with the Wise, teachers, and priests, then Artists, Princes, Warriors, Workers, Merchants, and Landowners. At the bottom are the beasts, which are enslaved.[1] All is not well in the Isles however, as the Sload have been using their necromantic powers to attack the Isles, such as in the Sack of Skywatch and the War of the Uvichil, in 2E 1301, and 2E 2911 to 2E 2917, respectively.[1]
