Evolution? If you believe the Tolkien method, they were corrupted by Morgoth. You might also ask how an Altmer changed into a Dunmer. There could have been something as cataclysmic as the Battle of Red Mountain that had same sort of effect and changed Elf to Orc in the same way as the Chimer became Dunmer. –Rpeh^{•T•C•E•} 17:17, 9 April 2008 (EDT)
