[edit] New Template

This is a new template, proposed to replace Template:Ayleid Ruins Summary, Template:Forts Summary, and Template:Caves Summary. This template takes advantage of some newly available parser functions, which allow one template to accommodate some of the slight differences between these templates. Combining all of them into one will allow easier maintenance: if a change to the style is desired, only one template has to be altered instead of three different ones.

Some other new features implemented in this new template:

  • An "AddAbove" tag allowing text to be inserted above the summary (but below the page's bread crumb trails).
  • A new set of subcategories that track specific types of places (i.e., Categories-Places-Forts).
  • Instead of using "edit" superscripts to allow the /Description and /Directions page to be edited, the words "Description" and "Location" are now links to those subpages.
  • On the template page, the transclusions to /Description and /Directions are hidden, so that Template:/Description no longer shows up as a wanted page.
  • Default values of "Unknown" are filled in for most params.
  • The table header "Occupants" is now a link to Oblivion:Dungeons#Occupants, where the various types of occupants are described (for example, if a reader wants to know the difference between Animals and Monsters).

[edit] Images

You could probably have guessed I'd mention this (or Timenn would), but I think we should have image and imgdesc parameters on this, as on the other templates. Is there any particular reason we don't have them? Rpeh 09:00, 6 June 2007 (EDT)

No particular reason, other than that each of these templates was written independently and each one has a different quirky heritage. And believe it or not, there was a time when UESP didn't have images on every page ;) While I was thinking about it, I also made it so that this template, NPC Summary, and Quest Header will all recognize "Image" or "image" and "ImgDesc" or "imgdesc". So now you don't have to put as much effort into keeping track of that bit of inconsistency. --NepheleTalk 01:39, 7 June 2007 (EDT)
Nephele, you're a star. By which I mean you're a valued member of the community, not that you weigh several billion tons and spew radioactive poison everywhere. ;-) Rpeh 03:01, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Directions Pages

Is there still a need to look for /Directions subpages? I don't believe I've seen one for the past few months, although I'm not sure how to go about checking for sure. --RpehTCE 09:51, 9 December 2007 (EST)

Unfortunately, subpages do not show up in search results. While normally that's a good thing, in this case it does make it a bit difficult to check for this sort of thing. I'm pretty sure they've all been taken care of and we don't need to support them any more, but I could be wrong. It might be possible for a bot to search for these to make absolutely sure. (And I think NepheleBot already did that, when it proposed all of them for deletion, but you'd have to ask Nephele to be sure.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:19, 9 December 2007 (EST)
I tried to go through and clean them all out with the bot, but it's hard to be 100% sure that I got all of them. We could just rip out that bit of code and see whether anyone complains about problems. Or at some point I could do a recheck with the bot to be sure they're all gone... although it'll be several weeks before I get a chance to do that probably. --NepheleTalk 02:12, 12 December 2007 (EST)
I just had a look using Special:Allpages and couldn't see any. Is that a detailed enough check, do we think? The Description subpages definitely showed up so I'm reasonably happy that there aren't any... Now it's just a matter of being brave enough to take the code out! —RpehTCE 10:27, 17 December 2007 (EST)
Thanks for checking that... sounds to me like it's ready to be deleted! Are you volunteering to tackle it, or would you like me to clean up my own mess here? ;) --NepheleTalk 17:07, 17 December 2007 (EST)
I'll do it... tomorrow. I'm off work (yay!) so I can spend a bit of time making the change when the server is less busy. And I can fix my mistakes without annoying too many people. —RpehTCE 01:23, 18 December 2007 (EST)
