- This article provides Miscellaneous Graphics ideas, as part of the Graphics section of the Mod Ideas article.
- More graphically interesting spells
For example. Lightning which literally comes from the sky and blasts your target. Or a spell which freezes your target solid in an iceberg.
- Try Midas Magic Spells of Aurum to try that.
- More graphically interesting swordplay
For example: ability to chop off limbs, heads. Especially cool the ability to chop the legs off a Zombie and have it continue to drag its way toward you using its one arm. Also cool for darker players the ability to remove the heads of all fallen foes and have them mounted on your wall or on sticks outside your front door.
- Generally improved close-up gfx
Much better textures for items like flowers and walls. When you look at them at very close range they look horrible, messy and just very lores mush.
- Weapon Trails
Soul-Calibur style motion trails for weapons.
- Weather Effects
Make travel in rain or snow slower. Create some incentives for characters to take shelter in those conditions. Perhaps characters with low will power or endurance should be prone to catching a cold-like disease with random severity. A series of in-game text messages should be displayed to indicate the increasing discomfort and the onset of a cold.
- I agree here, it's not realistic to see the NPC chit-chat in a rainy storm.
There might be an increased chance of slipping while climbing in the rain. Characters wearing metal armor should also have a slight chance of being hit by lightning during a storm especially when they are on high ground or mounted on a horse.
- Two problems with the whole 'struck by lightning' thing. First, even on a horse I doubt you'd be the tallest thing in a forest. And Second, if you're wearing any sort of full-body-covering metal armor (i.e. helm and currase and grieves and boots) physics tells us that you on the inside will hardly be affected by the current, as almost all of it will travel AROUND rather than THROUGH your body (this sort of protection is called a Faraday Cage). This is proven by some video somewhere of someone touching a Tesla Coil's bolt while wearing full chain mail. The person was unharmed because of the above principle.
Certain types of clothing could be introduced to counter the effects of rain and cold such as capes, cloaks, or hoods.
The graphical glitch of rain and snow falling through seeming solid objects (for example, under a bridge) should be fixed and such objects should give you some protection from the weather. For vampires, being in shade should reduce or eliminate sun damage. A more consistent weather system should also be introduced. Currently, you can go indoors for about ten seconds then come out to a completely different climate condition.
Less rain. Or perhaps an option where you can make it sunny more often. (Living in drought-stricken Australia I get fits of jealousy every time it rains on Oblivion.)
- Enhanced Weather fixes the weather consistency problem, and the rain one too.
- Extra Personality
Unique items, campsites, and other personal touches placed in a few barren spots such as mountains, to make venturing into uninhabited/untouched places a bit more exciting because of the prospect of finding something random (sort of like Fin Gleam, ect). More books, more "non-quests" like the Dive Rock incident, and the thief's treasure in Pale Pass. Perhaps a treasure hunt leading all across Cyrodiil. Just more of a chance to run into the unique and interesting, to make Cyrodiil feel more alive.
- Better Underclothes
The underclothes should look more natural (don't bother recommending the "Female Underwear" mod). Now they're all brown and wrinkly and gross. Not to mention that it looks like it just doesn't belong on the beast-races (I think it was actually better in Morrowind when they didn't wear any underclothes).
- Different Sized Books
All the books in Cyrodiil are about the same size and thickness. Can we have more diversity among tomes?
- Less Conspicuous Sneaking
It's called "sneaking", and yet is the most blatantly obvious thing you can do in Oblivion. Can someone please revamp the sneaking animation? (how about somthing similar to the game "prince of persia: the two thrones" when you are on one knee while close to an enemy that cant see you, and crouched very low down while moving)
- Visible Wounds
- They don't have to be all gory or anything, but it would be cool to have a visible indication that your character’s been hit. Maybe for X amount of time after the wound’s been inflicted, it would be visible in vanity-mode or when you opened your journal. If you were hit in the leg with a hammer you could have a bruise there, or if you got an arrow to the neck you could have a little "hole" there.
- Being Able to Lock Doors
A locksmith could pop up in a few towns, offering different styles of locks. For example, an iron lock would give you 1 pin. Steel gives you 2, Elven 3, Ebony 4, Orcish 5, and Dwarven requires a key. Then of course thieves could rise up from wherever they hide and break in, stealing odd things. Then to counter that, locks no cases, display cases, cabinets and so on. Also, in the quest Garridan's (something like that) Tears, the key to the door opening on to Frostfire Glade is an alchemical ingredient. One of the NPCs tells the player that powerful wizards locked their doors with alchemical ingredients as the key. Wouldn't that be so cool? Then the key you are given when you buy a house would actually come in useful. Also, a lock spell, to lock doors behind you to slow down enemies. Thoughts?
- Actually, player.addSpell 000A9805 gives you a Lock spell, but be careful; if you don't have a matching Open spell or lockpick, you might be trapped inside.
- If you already tried on the PC version the lock command, anyone can get through the doors, even that Lucien Lachance, but i guess this could work if they reprogram their schedules. It would also be cool, if you lock someone outside, they call the guards, and then somehow there was an animation of him bashing open the lock to their house.
- Spell Stacking Graphics
The projectiles of spells with multiple effects should be combinations of their effects, i.e. a Fire-Shock-Frost spell should be Fire, Shock and Frost launched at the same time, not just the dominant effect.
- Better Effects
Something cool would be better effects, like your character actually holds the items that he picks up,or it shows that he is actually opening doors,or it shows him sleeping,or it shows him enchanting armor/weapons/items,or the ability to show him making potions, getting bored, climbing trees to look for odd stuff,or reading a book.Lots of cool stuff like that.)
- Painting Pictures
I think it would be nice if you could have a 'Screenshot Mode' that would allow you to apply the effect of painted pictures (as seen in the loading screens or in other NPC homes) in Oblivion on these screenshots. You would need a paint brush, paint pallet, and an easel. When the effect is completed, you could frame it and hang it on a wall in your house.
- I agree. For the fun of it, there should be a photography feature. You could carry around a camera (with an imp in it who paints pictures, a la Discworld) or a portable easel or something, and sell your pictures to merchants or hang them on the walls of your house.
