Adamantium Ore can be mined from Raw Adamantium deposits found in various locations beneath Mournhold. These rocks do NOT respawn under normal circumstances, and have only a 60% chance of producing an ore sample. Since these are the only sources for this rare ingredient, you might want to save before mining them so as to be sure you get the most ore you can.
Another difficulty with this is that Adamantium Ore is by far the heaviest ingredient in the game, being five times the weight of Scrap Metal or Raw Ebony, which are the heaviest without the Tribunal expansion. Bringing a companion or trained pack-rat along to help you carry them may be a good idea. Alternatively, you can use Mark and Recall spells to facilitate the mining operations.
While Adamantium Ore is technically an ingredient, you might want to think twice before using it to make potions. Restore Magicka and Reflect effects are readily available on more common ingredients, and the Adamantium is much better put to use to have Bols Indalen make you custom Adamantium armor, which is the best Medium Armor in the game. The following chart details his prices:
| Armor | Ore | Gold |
|---|---|---|
| Cuirass | 10 | 6000 |
| Pauldron* | 7 | 500 |
| Bracer* | 4 | 600 |
| Greaves | 6 | 6000 |
| Boots | 3 | 4200 |
| Helm | 4 | 3000 |
| Total | 45 | 21400 |
* Numbers given are for each. Double them for a matched pair.
All but the Greaves and Pauldrons can be found in various locations under the city. These can only be found by killing Apelles Matius or Yagak gro-Gluk.* Yagak is necessary for the Tribunal main quest, so this is not a good idea. Apelles's part in the Tribunal main quest is completed before you actually enter the city, but he is surrounded by friends in the Imperial Legion in Ebonheart, so attempting to get the armor from him could be a bloody affair. Thus, collecting the ore and having the armor custom-made for you is a much easier and safer alternative, but you will need to get all 20 ore to make a complete set, hence the importance of saving before mining them.
Raw Adamantium rocks can be found in the following locations:
- Old Mournhold: Temple Crypt (10 Rocks)
- Norenen-dur, the Teeth that Gnash (4 Rocks)
- Old Mournhold: Armory Ruins (3 Rocks)
- Old Mournhold: Temple Catacombs (3 Rocks)
*You may also acquire a mostly complete set of Adamantium Armor (minus the Helm) by installing the Adamantium Armor Official Plug-in, which adds gives several vendors back on Vvardenfell sets of the armor for sale.
