Administrators, also known as sysops, are editors who have special tools that aid them in the maintenance of the site. These editors are recommended by the community and then promoted at the discretion of Daveh. They have the ability to protect and delete pages, block malicious users, and undo these actions as well. By default, administrators are appointed for life, but may step down at any time.

This is a list of the current sysops of UESP (an automatically generated list is also available from Listusers). If you need to tell them something or request their services, feel free to contact one of them. If you have a general request for any administrator, you can use the Administrator Noticeboard.

[edit] Administrator Responsibilities

The community looks to administrators to perform essential chores and tasks that require the extra tools that administrators are entrusted with. These duties include:

Deleting Pages: Administrators are responsible for monitoring the Marked for Deletion category and carrying out any requested deletions.
- All deletions should be in accordance with the UESP's Deletion Policy.
- Administrators should in general not delete any pages that they initially proposed for deletion; this ensures that at least two different people have looked over any page before it is deleted.
Blocking Users: Administrators are able to block users in cases where it is necessary to prevent damage to the site, in accordance with the Blocking Policy.
- The Vandalism page provides more information on some situations under which blocking may be appropriate.
Protecting Pages: A limited number of pages on the Wiki are protected.
- All page protections should be in accordance the UESP's Protection Policy.
Editing Protected Pages: Any edits to fully protected pages need to be made by administrators. These pages include:
- Main Page - The main page of the Wiki
- UESPWiki:Spam Blacklist - A listing of URLs used for spam that the Wiki will not allow to be entered on any pages
- MediaWiki:Common.css - The style sheet that determines the overall appearance of all Wiki pages
- MediaWiki:Monobook.css - The style sheet that sets the Wiki appearance for readers using the (default) Monobook skin
- MediaWiki:Sidebar - The list of links shown on the left-hand side of all Wiki pages
- MediaWiki:Tagline - The text under the title of all Wiki pages that currently reads "The UESPWiki - Your source for The Elder Scrolls since 1995"
- MediaWiki:Sitenotice - The text at the top right of all Wiki pages that currently reads "Please join us in our chatroom to discuss the site, the Elder Scrolls, or anything else you want to bring up."
Patrollers: All administrators are also automatically patrollers.
- Administrators have access to one additional feature when monitoring recent changes made to page: they are able to "rollback" any edit as long as it is the most recent change made to a page. This is only intended for use with vandalism. In the case of a vandal who quickly changes a large number of pages, the "rollback" feature allows the vandal's work to be reverted very efficiently.

Finally, since administrators are expected to be experienced with the procedures of the Wiki, editors will often turn to one when they need information or advice; other editors may also volunteer to be mentors.

[edit] Administrative Conflicts

Administrators should not override or undo another's administrative actions; any such action can lead to a wheel war. This includes deleting official warnings or notifications placed on a user's talk page; however, another administrator may choose to add their own comments to a user talk page (e.g., for emphasis, clarification, or to point out an overlooked circumstance). This does not apply in cases where there have been new developments since the first action was taken: for example, if one administrator warned a user about inappropriate behaviour (first action), and the user then resumed the behaviour (new developments), any administrator may then proceed to take further action (i.e., blocking) against the user. Also, this does not apply to regular contributions (such as routine editing) done by an administrator; the standard etiquette that applies to all editors should be used for any non-administrative types of contributions.

If an administrator has a disagreement with another administrator's actions, it is recommended that a discussion be started on that admin's talk page: ask why the first administrator chose that course of action, and point out what other alternatives there may have been (in particular whether any policies apply). If the first administrator agrees, it should be left up to the first admin to undo their own actions. If there is no existing policy covering the situation, or the policy is ambiguous, a more general discussion involving the rest of the community may be needed to try to establish an appropriate policy.

If you believe that another administrator has in some way undone one of your administrative actions, it is best to assume that the administrator was not aware of your previous action. Do not override the new action; instead, explain the situation to the other administrator and follow the same guidelines as in the previous paragraph.

If two administrators can not reach an agreement on what is appropriate, other administrators may be asked to provide their opinion on the situation. As a last resort, Daveh can be asked to provide arbitration.

[edit] Other Administrative Roles

There are a few other roles at UESP that are independent of the administrative role.

Bureaucrat – The bureaucrat role allows a user to give other users administrative status. Daveh is the only user with this status.
Cartographer - The cartographer privilege allows users to modify labels on our Oblivion map and SI map. Specifically, there are map editing tools at User:Daveh/Map and User:Daveh/SiMap, respectively, that are only accessible to editors with cartographer privileges. Of the admins, Daveh, Nephele, Rpeh, TheRealLurlock, and Wrye have this permission; Timenn also has cartographer privileges.
Checkuser - Those with the checkuser permission can view any user's IP address, as well as see what accounts were used with a particular IP address or range. All Administrators have this permission.
Patroller - Patrollers are editors who regularly monitor the Recent changes page. See the Patrollers page for details on patrollers.
IRC Operator – Operators on the IRC channel keep the channel working and usable. They have the power to kick and ban users, as well as perform channel maintenance. See the IRC page for details on channel operators. Note that IRC is hosted by chatspike.net, not uesp.net.
Forum Moderator - Moderators have the power to close, delete, lock, and move posts and threads on the forums. See the Forum page for details on forum moderators.
Server Access - Only Daveh has full access to the servers on which UESP runs, including the ability to update and configure all of site's operating software. In addition, Nephele can login to the servers, view the site's software configuration files, and make some changes.

Daveh is the founder and owner of the site. Therefore, he is legally and financially responsible for the site, and has complete authority regarding all aspects of the site (including the wiki, forums, and all other content hosted on uesp.net).
