UESPWiki:Oblivion Places Redesign Project/Data

The UESPWiki – Your source for The Elder Scrolls since 1995

Jump to: navigation, search

This page contains data extracted from the construction set that can be used to update place pages to the new format. The information provided here should be combined with any existing information that is already on the place's page, and will need to be supplemented by in-game information on how to get through the dungeon.

[edit] Instructions

To use the data on this page, you basically just need to copy the chunk of information here then paste it into the appropriate page.

More detailed instructions are:

  1. Choose one of the places listed here
  2. Click "edit" next to the place's name to see the raw version of the text
  3. Select and copy everything from the line that says "<nowiki>" to the line that says "</nowiki>"
  4. Edit the place page and paste the block of text in at the start of the page
  5. Move any notes or related quests that were already on the page into the new "Notes" section.
  6. Check whether the page had any images (i.e. lines "|image" and "|imgdesc" in the previous "Oblivion Places Summary"; not the maps at the bottom of the page) and move those into the new version of the page.
  7. Delete the rest of what was previously on the page (i.e., the "Oblivion Places Summary" and the Maps section)
  8. Read through the new text and tweak any sentences that are grammatically wrong or just awkward

At the moment, there are likely to be a fair number of red links on the new version of the page; don't worry about them because eventually the pages will exist.

If you're worried about messing up at first, just give it a shot anyway. The best way to learn how to do it is to give it a try and test things out yourself. So try following the instructions, see how much you can figure out, then save the resulting page no matter how ugly it looks. Another editor will be able to clean up any problems on the page. If you still have questions, post them on the article's talk page.

[edit] Notes

  • The Wenyandawik information has been used to create an example of the new page layout.
  • The data is all embedded in a "nowiki" section to prevent it from trying to turn this article into a Places page.
  • The wording of these summaries will generally need to be tweaked once inserted into the page. There's only so much that a computer can do (or only so much effort I'm willing to put into coding) to figure out how to compose good english sentences. The primary intent with these summaries is to make sure that all the facts are provided (and that the facts are consistent from one page to the next).
