UESPWiki:Task List

The UESPWiki – Your source for The Elder Scrolls since 1995

Jump to: navigation, search

This is a combined, public task list for all UESP editors. It lists a wide range of specific projects that editors have identified as needing to be done. For more general ideas about what to do, see the Helping Out page. Official projects can be found on the Projects page.

All editors are welcome to add ideas or work on any idea listed here. Any task that is not crossed out is available for anyone to tackle. More details on how to add tasks to this list, or how to sign up to do a task, are provided at the bottom of the page.

In many cases, the task descriptions are pretty brief. If you'd like more information on any task, just ask on the help page. And don't worry, asking about a task doesn't mean you have to do it!

Contents

[edit] General

All tasks on the Helping Out page, especially:

Pages Needing Cleanup
All these pages need improving in some way.
Pages Needing Verification
These pages have questionable information that requires research.
Questions Needing Answers
Many questions are asked on talk pages and the answers would improve the wiki.

[edit] Oblivion

  • Harmonize all of the Daedric Quests - Slowly but surely working through it, Vesna)
    • Introduce consistent section titles, content, formatting, and layout for each of the individual quest pages.
  • Revamp Oblivion:Leveled Items (followup to Artifacts task)
    • Once all of the artifacts on the page have been done, consistency dictates that the same treatment needs to be done to the non-artifact leveled items, too.
    • In other words, move the information on each item to its own article. Use the "Artifact Summary" template, but set ArtifactType to "Leveled Item" and change the trail to {{Oblivion Leveled Items Trail}}
    • Change the Leveled Items page into a list of transclusions of all the individual articles.
  • The Oblivion Places Redesign Project is a major effort to update all the place articles and maps in Oblivion. The project page provides more details on all the different tasks that need to be done.
  • Expand the Dremora page
  • Create pages similar to Bandit for the other types of generic NPCs (Marauders, Conjurers, Necromancers, etc)
  • Add details of all factions to Oblivion:Factions_A, Oblivion:Factions_B and so on, including what the factions are for and how they affect gameplay.
  • Add information to the Oblivion:Books pages. Most of the basic stats (weight, value, location) have now been added, but formatting is still needed:
    • Additional book formatting can also be done, see #Tamriel for details.
  • Extend the existing Quest Stages by including all alternate results and the reasons for their appearance as in Oblivion:A Mage's Staff.
  • Create a page with more complete information on greater powers and lesser powers.
    • See request at Category_talk:Oblivion-Magic-Greater Powers
    • Details on the powers provided by each race also need to be provided on individual race pages (i.e., not just a mention that Khajiits receive the "Eye of Fear" and "Eye of Night" but make those names linkable entries and provide complete information on FormID, whether its a lesser/greater power, spell cost if lesser power, etc. ... or provide a link to a page with that information).
  • Revamp the list of Oblivion Gates at Oblivion Gates
    • Make sure all gates are listed
    • Provide a map link for each gate
  • Make an individual Page for all houses.
    • Try to add as much information to these shop pages as possible - Working on it, but very slowly. --Matthewest 01:08, 29 February 2008 (EST)

[edit] Shivering Isles

  • Set up Shivering:Essential NPCs to be in same format as Oblivion:Essential NPCs and make sure that all essential NPCs are included. - NPCs already listed on the page have been reformatted - I haven't added any missing ones --Gaebrial 04:28, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
  • Extend the existing Quest Stages by including all alternate results and the reasons for their appearance as in Oblivion:A Mage's Staff.
  • Add better information about deactivated obelisk contents to Shivering:Obelisk of Order
  • Revamp the Shivering:Crystal Chests page --I'll see what I can do! --Eshetalk17:07, 23 January 2008 (EST)
    • Ensure it contains a full list of chests (there are 38 mentioned in the CS - are all of these definitely in the game?
    • Better information about contents.
  • Add a page on the diseases added by SI
  • Expand the Zealot and Heretic pages: more information along the lines of the Marauder page.
  • More information on Golden Saint and Dark Seducer pages. Details on the different types listed at Aureal and Mazken.

[edit] Morrowind

[edit] Current tasks

--Morrowind--

  • Continue super-cleanup for MW towns, User:Benould is on it, but everyone can help
  • MW regions need finishing - User:GuildKnight is on it, but help as you can, maybe write about flora and fauna for each.
    • We could use some beauty shots of ash storms, Guards/NPCs/creatures in ash storms, conditions in Red Mountain, and overall anything that can add to the bigger pages like regions. We could use some "typical" shots of the regions, i.e. swamps in the Bitter Coast, roaming Deadra in the Grazelands etc. Also, Image:Theblight.JPG and Image:Bthanchend.JPG need to be replaced.
    • Aerial maps for the regions in MW, like here Image:AscadianIsles detail.jpg
  • Add and modify internal maps for Morrowind with these standards
  • Check Morrowind Quest pages for consistency regarding Quick Walkthrough and ToC Headers. Also check for Finished in the stages. See here for an example for layout.--Done, User:Game Lord is filling in the rep/disp values.

--Tribunal--

  • Add Place summaries to all of Tribunal

--Bloodmoon--

  • BM weapons and armor pages
  • BM Artifacts, Unique. Generic Magic item pages- need Peer review
  • Check Tribunal Quests so they match MW quests
  • Add tables for wares on Bloodmoon NPCs

[edit] Pages needing Peer review

See list here

[edit] Tamriel

  • Check that all of the Tamriel Books are properly formatted
    • All of the books are supposed to conform to the recommended book layout, but many do not.
    • Books that need formatting can be found, for example, by searching for   tags.
    • Check whether each book uses the Book Summary template, has proper wiki formatting, and is listed on all appropriate book pages. For details, see the book layout guidelines.
      • Specific things to look for are deleting unnecessary HTML codes (<br>, <div>, <font>, etc.), deleting all &nbsp; tags, make sure there is one blank line between each paragraph, and no extra blank lines at start of book
    • Make sure that any introductory notes are enclosed in a {{Non Book|...}} tag, so that those notes are shown in the standard site font, not the book-specific font.
    • Annotate the books with links to relevant pages. Any people, places, or historical dates that have Tamriel entries should be changed into links to the Tamriel page. This is hardly been done to any of the books, so all books will eventually need to be checked to see whether links need to be added.
I'll start on the tail end of the books and add links. Meet me in the middle? ;)Eshetalk00:02, 14 March 2008 (EDT)
  • Reformat the History pages
    • The Third Era has already been done; the Mythical Era, First Era, and Second Era need to be done in a similar way
    • Events on the page need to be categorized into "major events" or "all events"
    • All events on page should be linkable entries (and links to the events should be added from other pages as relevant)
    • As many people and places as possible on the pages should be cross-links to other Tamriel entries
    • Check whether all information on the old site (tamriel/history/tamhist.shtml and subpages) has been incorporated into new site
  • Expand the Tamriel:Places pages. (I'll do as much as I can-Puddle.)
    • Check whether all information on the old site (tamriel/geography/tamgeog.shtml) has been incorporated into new site.
    • Pages that are transcluded into the Tamriel Places pages need more consistent formatting: only a paragraph or two of the very general information should ever be transcluded; any maps/images should be small and left-aligned. If there is more information, a link should be provided to direct readers to the full page for the details. For example, see Tamriel:Hammerfell.
  • In general with the Tamriel pages:
    • Check whether information from the old site (tamriel/tamriel.shtml) has been incorporated into the new site
    • Make sure entries on all pages are linkable entries so that cross-links and redirects are possible
    • Add cross-links to pages to make it as easy as possible to look up information. Most Tamriel entries now have redirects, so cross-links should be possible simply by enclosing a word in brackets (i.e., if you see a mention of "Barenziah", simply change it to "[[Barenziah]]").
    • Introduce standard formatting
    • Add links from Tamriel pages to game-specific pages. Whenever there is a game-specific page on the same topic, there should be a link somewhere on the article saying something like: "This x appears in the game of [[Oblivion:Oblivion-specific-page|Oblivion]]."
    • Conversely, add links from game-specific pages to the Tamriel pages where appropriate. In particular, if the Tamriel pages contain information that is not being displayed/transcluded on the game-specific pages, then there should be a link to let readers know that the Tamriel page exists and contains more general information on the topic

[edit] Mobile Games

[edit] Older Games

  • Check the old site for pages that need to be wikified
    • Lists of all the pages on the old site are posted at UESPWiki:Old UESP Files and its subpages. These lists need to be completed with information on whether or not the page contents have been copied over to the wiki.
    • Most content from the pre-wiki version of the UESP site have been converted over, but not all.
    • Converting Old Pages provides tips on how to move pages over
  • Daggerfall Redesign Project: A project has been started to standardize the format of the Daggerfall pages; see the project page for details.
  • Remove attributions from pre-wiki pages
    • Move any attribution from the old site to talk pages or to the page history.
  • Arena:Running_Under_Windows and Arena:Running_Under_DosBox -- These contain a lot of old information (which may be somewhat useful still) but is missing the last year or so of tips (many threads from the ES-Old Games forums are related to this). Ideally this section should be split into several different pages:
    • Using DosBox
    • Running Old Games Under Windows
    • Game specific pages for Arena, Daggerfall, etc...
  • Make the Tamriel sections better for Daggerfall and Arena characters.

[edit] Site Tasks

  • Update all tables to use "wikitable" class (instead of greylapse/graylapse, and instead of completely non-standard layouts)
    • See UESPWiki:Community Portal#Table Formats for background information, and Help:Tables for general info about tables
    • Doing a search on greylapse or graylapse will provide a list of all articles currently using those table formats. Other non-standard tables may be more difficult to find.
    • Figure out whether the table needs any special table features and therefore what class(es) it should be put into (Is it a table that needs to be compact? If so, change class to "wikitable compress". Is it a table with multiline cells that uses linkable entries? If so, change class to "wikitable vtop"). Change class accordingly.
    • Delete any redundant formatting (padding=x, border=x, cellpadding=x, cellspacing=x, table=center, etc.); also check whether the header row has unnecessary formatting that should be deleted (i.e., style="font-size:8pt", bgcolor=x, etc.).
    • The only other formatting commands that are likely to be needed are: align=x, width=x, style=text-align:x, style=float:right
    • Before saving, do a preview and see whether the changes have made the table appear significantly different. If the table is really different, see whether some of the formatting commands should be added back in. Or place a comment on the talk page letting other editors know that the table needs to be looked at more closely.
    • Other formatting in the table may also be redundant, unwanted, or implemented using out-of-date features. Feel free to update if you think it can be improved.

The following tasks are more advanced and likely require a good deal of effort and knowledge in web technologies.

  • Design a system for handling file uploads similar to other ES sites. See File Database Design page for Daveh's ideas on the system. While this is a lower priority task, contact Daveh if you're interested in working on this.

[edit] Instructions

[edit] Working on a Task

  1. Look through list and see if anything appeals to you
  2. If you can't figure out what a task means or if you're not sure how to do it, ask on the the talk page.
  3. Once you've picked something you would like to work on, mark that you're working on it. Put your name under the task to let other editors know that someone is working on it, e.g. add ** Being worked on! --~~~~.
  4. If it's a one-person task, you may also want to cross it out (place <s> at the start of the line, and </s> at the end of the line) so other editors know to not work on it.
  5. When you've finished, delete the task from this page

[edit] Adding a Task

Any editor can add a task to the page: if there's something that you think needs to be done on the site, add it! If you're not sure about your idea or would like feedback, add it to the talk page and ask for other editors to provide their opinion.

  1. Check whether this is the best place to add your idea
    • This page is supposed to list specific ideas for projects that editors can work on; more general to-do information is at UESPWiki:Helping Out
    • This page is not for tasks that require administrative priviledges; those requests should be added to the Administrator Noticeboard.
    • Don't add tasks that you are planning on tackling in the near future (i.e., next week or so); this is supposed to be for tasks that are available for other editors to work on.
    • This is not the place to ask questions (try the Reference Desk), or make minor suggestions about improving a single page (put the suggestions on the article's talk page).
    • If in doubt, just go ahead and add it. Another editor might move it to a more appropriate place, but it's much better to add the idea so others know about it than to delay adding it because you're not sure where to put it.
  2. Add a description of the task in the appropriate section.
  3. (Optional) Add more detailed information on the following lines.
    • If you're able to take the time to fully describe the task, that would be great, and will make it easier for other editors to know what needs to be done
    • If, on the other hand, you just want to quickly add an idea, just provide a basic description (enough so that an experienced editor can probably fill in the details). In that case try to monitor this page and its talk page so that you can provide details if someone is interested in the idea.
