Feel free to ask any questions you have about how to start editing! (See UESPWiki:Questions if you have a question not related to becoming an editor). To ask a question, you can just click on the "+" button at the top of the page. Type in your question in the big edit box that appears, put a title in the box that says "Subject/headline", and click "Save Page". For more details, see Editing Pages and Editing a Discussion Page. Another editor will notice the question and answer... probably not immediately, but almost always within the next day.

[edit] Comments on Page Reorganization

I know a lot of the UESPWiki pages like "Tutorial", "Introduction", and "Philosophies" have been re-arranged a few times over the last few months, and now here I am moving a page to yet another new name. I'm not trying to just make things more confusing :) I'm actually trying to find ways to streamline some of the UESPWiki pages and make them hopefully more useful, especially to new editors; I'll be slowly working through a few more of these pages over the next little while. My problem with the name "Tutorial" is that it wasn't obvious (to me at least) what the purpose of the page was, especially how it was supposed to differ from the various Help pages. And I also felt that we needed an obvious place to direct new editors and let them know about some of the options available to them. So I chose the name "Getting Started"; one good reason is that Wikipedia's page is also named Getting Started.

My next step is to advertise this page more widely. I'll be:

  • adding it to the side bar
  • fixing the link on the main page
  • adding a link on the page that shows up when a user creates a new account

Are there any other places where a link is needed? Or do you think I'm going overboard? I'd welcome any feedback (especially from newer editors on the site... where would you look for this type of page?) --Nephele 16:29, 15 February 2007 (EST)

Well, I'm relatively new here, but not to the whole wiki process. Looking at this here, I really do like the welcoming feel. It's good. I mean, I'd definitely have some idea of where to go...By the way, is the mentor program active? How do you sign up to be a mentee? I mean, possible mentors are listed... [edit] Page Name

As I tried to explain above, I didn't choose the name "Getting Started" for this page randomly. I chose it to more clearly differentiate the page's purpose (a place to welcome new editors and point them towards other pages they may want to read). I also chose it because that's the name wikipedia uses for their similar page.

I don't think "How to Contribute" is a better name for this page. First, the page isn't really about how to contribute; it has one section on that topic, but it is not the focus of the page. Second, I find it really confusing having a lot of similarly named UESPWiki pages: "How to Contribute" vs "Helping Out" vs "Task List". I'm trying to work towards reducing overlap between similar pages. I think it's more than just an organizational question: if a new editor reads a page on "how to contribute" and later sees a link to "helping out" they're very likely to think that they've already read the "helping out" page and have no idea that in fact they are two very different pages.

The only places where I created links to this page using the name "How to Contribute" is in places that are very visible to casual readers of the site (namely sidebar and main page). I didn't want someone who is visiting the site just to read about a game to see a link called "Getting Started" and think that they had to read that page just to know how to use the site. I thought about a few other options (e.g., "Getting Started Editing") but they generally seemed to be more awkward. I would welcome other suggestions for a good link name on the side bar.

But I overall I would anticipate that "Getting Started" will be the most common link name for this page, once I go through and cleanup the redirects. On pages like Policies and Guidelines and Help:Contents I think "Getting Started" provides a much better description of the page's contents and purpose than "How to Contribute".

I'm definitely open to other suggestions about this page's name. If anyone can come up with a short name that works both on the side bar and in other places, that would be great. But I think it's really important that the page's name provides a good description of the page's contents and purpose, and "How to Contribute" does not in my opinion do that. --Nephele 16:30, 20 February 2007 (EST)

It's kind of confusing to have an article with one name and all of the links to the article with another. I don't have a preference on what we name this page as long as everything is consistent. --Aristeo | Talk 22:12, 20 February 2007 (EST)
Except it's not all the links to the article. It's just two links to the article that use "How to Contribute". There are also currently two links that use "Getting Started", and I was planning to change at least two other links to "Getting Started" (those are currently using "Introduction" and "Tutorial"). In most of these cases, I think having a link called "How to Contribute" will be more confusing than helpful (e.g., on "Helping Out" saying that you're then supposed to go read another page to learn "How to Contribute" won't make sense; having a link to "Helping Out" right next to a link to "How to Contribute" will also be confusing). So I'd argue that there will be more links using "Getting Started" than "How to Contribute". And there are reasons for the different names based upon the different context: "Getting Started" is in places where the audience is assumed to be primarily editors; "How to Contribute" is in places where the audience is assumed to be primarily readers (not editors). There are other cases where a page has two very different names depending upon the context (e.g. Oblivion:Chorrol Recommendation is also Oblivion:Fingers of the Mountain).
I agree that the best solution would be to come up with a single name that can be used consistently in all places, but I haven't been able to come up with one. I think that in most situations, "How to Contribute" is a less useful name than "Getting Started"; if there is going to be inconsistency anyway, I'd rather settle for using the name that is better on all other counts. --Nephele 22:45, 20 February 2007 (EST)

[edit] Two things

1.Do the plugins work for PS3 if not are there any?

2. I can't complete the quest for the count with the knight. I talk to him and nothing I talk to her all she asks me is if im the count? Any ideas.
