[edit] Prologue
In 3E427, a prisoner from the Imperial Prison was transported to the volcanic island of Vvardenfell. He then became a member of the Blades and learned that he had the potential to become the legendary Nerevarine of Ashlander tales. He completed the Seven Trials of the Nerevarine one-by-one, and finally defeated the mad, false god Dagoth Ur and the Sixth House. He, therefore, erased any doubt that he was truly the Nerevarine.
During he many trials, the Nerevarine had to make difficult decisions. He refused to join the Sixth House, and in the end, Dagoth Ur did not allow the Nerevarine to join anyway. However, what if the Nerevarine wanted to join the Sixth House and Dagoth Ur was willing to let him join? How would history be different? This is the purpose of this story. This story shows an alternate timeline of events in which the Nerevarine joined the Sixth House.
Since many events before and after the point of divergence are the same, the story will begin from the point where events are very different.
[edit] Chapter 1: Memories
The Nerevarine looks back on his many accomplishments. He remembers when he arrived on Vvardenfell aboard the Imperial Prison Ship with his friend Jiub. He remembers delivering a package to Caius Cosades and joining the Blades. He remembers gathering information for the Caius Cosades and learning that he is the Nerevarine.
Then the Nerevarine remembers the Sixth House. Dagoth Gares was the one who invited and convinced him to join and gave him the Corprus disease. The Nerevarine remembers traveling up the sleep, treacherous slopes of Red Mountain and meeting Dagoth Ur. Dagoth Ur made him a full member of House Dagoth and told the Nerevarine his mission. He is to complete the Nerevarine Prophecies in order to weaken support for the Tribunal Temple, so the Nerevarine kept his affiliation to the Sixth House hidden.
The Nerevarine then lies to Cosades by saying that Dagoth Gares was too strong and gave him the Corprus disease. Since Caius Cosades cared for the Nerevarine, he sent him to Tel Fyr to see Divayth Fyr. Divayth Fyr helped the Nerevarine cure the negative effects of the Corprus disease from him, and, thus, he retained his immunity to all diseases and completed the Second Trial of the Nerevarine. After Cosades was recalled, the Nerevarine recued Mehra Milo from the Ministry of Truth, met the Dissident Priests, and obtained the The Lost Prophecy and the The Seven Curses for Urshilaku Wise Woman Nibani Maesa. Being a part of the Sixth House proved useful when he had to obtain three tokens from Kogoruhn for Urshilaku Ashkhan Sul-Matuul. He asked Dagoth Uthol for them. He then obtained the Ring of Moon-and-Star from the Cavern of the Incarnate and how the ghosts there urged him to turn away from the Sixth House.
[edit] Chapter 2: The Meeting
The Nerevarine returns to the present. He has finally done it. He has completed the Fourth and Fifth Trials. Vvardenfell’s four Ashlander Tribes have named him Nerevarine and the island’s three Great Houses have named him Hortator. Of all these people who aided him in becoming Nerevarine and Hortator, only Orvas Dren knows the he is a member of the Sixth House, but he is considering making an alliance between his Camonna Tong and House Dagoth.
The then enters Nibani Maesa’s yurt in the Urshilaku Camp.
“I did it,” announces the Nerevarine. “I completed the Fourth and Fifth Trials.”
“This is good,” says the Wise Woman. “But you’re not yet ready for the next trial. You need Kagrenac's Tools. The Tribunal used these tools to become false gods. The next trial can only be completed with these tools. Vivec has one of these tools. Azura has guided me through my dreams. Vivec's high priest Tholer Saryoni wants to see you, right?”
“Yes,” says the Nerevarine. “He sent this note to me. He wants to meet me after I become Hortator and Nerevarine.” He Nerevarine then remembers another note he had received. “Why does he want to meet with me? I’m their enemy now. The Temple’s Ordinators are after me.”
“I don’t know,” answers Nibani Maesa. “What’s important now, however, is that you get the tools and complete the prophecies. Go to Saryoni and demand a meeting with the false god Vivec. Then you’ll have to find a way to get Kagrenac's tool.”
“Alright,” says the Nerevarine as he leaves.
Once he is far away from the camp, the Nerevarine receives a message from Dagoth Ur in his head. “Good job, Nerevar,” says the voice. “Go to Tholer Saryoni, but beware. It may be a trap. However, I’m interested in what he has to say, but don’t do anything until I tell you to.” The message ends, and the Nerevarine heads to Vivec.
[edit] Chapter 2: The Archcanon
The Nerevarine arrives incognito at the High Fane. The note from the Archcanon told him to meet with Danso Indules.
The Nerevarine finds Danso Indules outside the great High Fane temple and whispers, “Hey, can I see the Achcanon?”
Danso Indules then says, “Yes, he’s in his private office right now. Be careful, however. The Ordinators still believe that you’re a threat to the Temple. Avoid them whenever you can. In fact, you should enter Saryoni’s office through the back door in the Wall of Wisdom. There aren’t any Ordinator there.”
“Thanks,” says the Nerevarine. “I’ll go through the back door so I don’t have to fight any Ordinators.”
The Nerevarine then stealthily sneaks to the back door and picks open the lock. The Nerevarine enters the door and see Archcanon Tholer Saryoni.
“Thank you for using the back door,” says the Dunmer priest. “I’m glad to see that you want to avoid confronting the Ordinators. Perhaps we can find a peaceful solution after all.”
“Why do you open to meet me. I thought the Nerevarine was the temple’s most hated enemy.”
“Yes, I know,” he says. “But now it’s time to change the Temple’s doctrines. People are losing faith with the Temple and now the Sixth House has awakened. We can’t protect the people from Dagoth Ur any longer. You’re our only hope now.”
“So what do you want me to do?”
“Vivec wants to meet you in person. He’ll tell me what you need to know. Take these keys. The first one is to the back door of my office, so you don’t have to pick it anymore. The second one is to Vivec’s Palace. Please continue to avoid the Ordinators. They’re not totally under my control, so you may attack you.”
“Thanks, I’ll go meet with Vivec now.”
The Nerevarine then exits the room through the back door again. The Nerevarine then receives a message from Dagoth Ur, “Nerevar, you’re about to meet with one of those that betrayed you. Don’t kill him yet; I want to know what he has to say.”
[edit] Chapter 3: Wraithguard
The Nerevarine stealthily arrives at Vivec’s Palace and uses the key Saryoni gave him to open the door. He immediately notices a man floating in the air. Although it is obvious that he is an elf, the Nerevarine never seen an elf like him. He had golden skin. “This must be what the Chimer looked like before they became the Dunmer,” Nerevarine thinks to himself.
“Greeting, Nerevarine,” says Vivec. “I believe that we have some business together.”
“Yes, we do,” says the Nerevarine. “Why did you want to see me for?”
“I want to change our doctrine on the Nerevarine. We won’t persecute you or the Dissident Priests any longer. I’ll also acknowledge that you are the Nerevarine and the reincarnation of Saint Nerevar. I want to make you the Temple’s Champion. You’re the one who’s going to stop Dagoth Ur. I want to give you Wraithguard. You don’t have to take it, but will you accept it as a gift?”
“Say yes,” says the voice of Dagoth Ur in the back of the Nerevarine’s head.
“Yes, I do,” says the Nerevarine.
“Okay,” says Vivec. “Now, will you swear onto and upon me and by all the gods and spirits that you’ll commit yourself to defending Morrowind and its people from Dagoth Ur and his minions?”
“Say yes,” says the voice again.
“Yes, I do swear,” says the Nerevarine.
“Now then,” says Vivec. “I’ll teach you how to use Wraithguard.”
The Nerevarine then starts to feel strange, almost sick.”
“Don’t worry,” says Vivec. “I’m taking you out of time in order to make teaching this to you easier.”
In just a moment, the sensation ended and the Nerevarine then possesses the knowledge of using Wraithguard.
“Good,” says Vivec. “I’ll notify the Temple that you’re our new champion. The persecution of the Dissident Priests will end. Now perhaps the Temple and the Dissident priests can mend the schism between us.”
“Thanks,” says the Nerevarine. “What now?”
“Now I’ll tell you my plan to defeat Dagoth Ur. Then after that, I’ll answer any questions that you have.”
The Nerevarine and Vivec then have a discussion about how to defeat Dagoth Ur, and Vivec answers most of the Nerevarine’s questions about the Battle of Red Mountain, the Dwemer, Dagoth Ur, and the Sixth House. The Nerevarine also analyzes some of Vivec’s documents including Plan to Defeat Dagoth Ur, Dagoth Ur's Plans, Nerevar at Red Mountain, and The Battle of Red Mountain. After that, the Nerevarine leaves.
Dagoth Ur’s voice then tells the Nerevarine to report to Nibani Maesa and tell her that he has Wraithguard and to return to Red Mountain afterwards.
[edit] Chapter 4: Nearing the End
It feels good to not be hated by the Dunmer anymore. The Dunmer, including the Ordinators, now recognize him as the Nerevarine and the Champion of the Temple. They treat him as a hero. They do not have any idea that he is a part of the Sixth House.
In his dreams, the Nerevarine asks Dagoth Ur why he did not tell the Nerevarine to kill Vivec. “If we kill him and take Wraithguard by force,” says Dagoth Ur. “Vivec will still be seen as a hero. However, if you gives us Wraithguard willingly (which he did), the people will think that he’s a fool once you reveal yourself to be a member of the Sixth House. People will realize that the Tribunal can be tricked, and they’ll begin to doubt the Tribunal and their judgments.”
The Nerevarine arrives at the Ashlander camp and enters Nibani Maesa’s yurt. He tells Nibani Maesa about the meeting he had with Vivec and how he got Wraithguard.
“I would’ve never expected Vivec to freely hand Wraith guard over to you or for him to declare you the Temple’s Champion,” says Nibani Maesa. “But you still got Wraithguard, so you’re ready for the next two trials. According to the Sixth Trial, ‘He honors blood of the tribe unmourned. He eats their sin, and is reborn.’ You must travel to Red Mountain and walk through the halls of the house unmourned. Gilvas Barelo said that this could refer to House Dagoth, House Dwemer, or both. The last trial states, ‘His mercy frees the cursed false gods, binds the broken, and redeems the mad.’ You must find Kagrenac's other tools and break the enchantments that bond the Tribunal and Dagoth Ur to Lorkhan’s Heart.”
“Alright,” says the Nerevarine. “I’ll go to Red Mountain and break the Heart’s enchantments.”
“Be careful. There are many dangers on Red Mountain. The last two trials will be the toughest.”
“Thanks. Bye,” says the Nerevarine as he leaves. He cannot believe how much the Ashlanders trust him. He has tricked everyone. The Emperor, Caius Cosades, Nibani Maesa, Sul-Matuul, Vivec, the Great Houses, the Dissident Priests, the Ashlanders, and even Azura will feel the sharp pain of betrayal later. The Nerevarine feels guilty, but the decision he made is final. He is going to bring Wraithguard to Dagoth Ur and help him free Morrowind from the Empire.
[edit] Chapter 5: A New Enemy
There is a knock at the door. “Sire, it’s me, Tienius Delitian.”
King Hlaalu Helseth knows that this is urgent, so he opens the door. Tienius Delitian rushes it and Helseth closes the door.
“What is it?” asks the King. “I hope this isn’t about the Nerevarine. I told you he’s nothing if the Tribunal want him dead.”
“That’s the problem. Vivec just declared him the Temple’s Champion and gave him Wraithguard to destroy Dagoth Ur.”
“What!” says King Helseth. “Not only does he have the support of the Emperor, three Great Houses, and the Ashlander, but now the Temple supports him as well!” Fear shoots up his face. Tienius is used to this face, but he knows that this is more than paranoia. A real big threat faces the King.
“I’m afraid so, sire,” says Delitian.
“This has gotten too far out of hand. He’s now the most powerful mortal man in Morrowind. Fortunately, he’s still only a mortal.” Confidence replaces the fear on his face. The King is well experienced with what can bring mortal persons down. “Bring me everything we need for the ritual. I’ll have the Night Mother deal with our problem.”
[edit] Chapter 6: Wulf
The Nerevarine arrives at the Ghostgate and decides to rest there.
Almost immediately, a Buoyant Armiger greets the Nerevarine. “Greeting, I’m Salyn Sarethi. You’re the Nerevarine. I know your face from description they gave us while you were a criminal.”
“It’s strange when I could be a criminal at one moment and a hero at the next,” says the Nerevarine.
“Yes, I know,” says the Salyn Sarethi. “I’ve heard a few fables about nobodies becoming heroes. Anyway, I have orders from Lord Vivec to provide as much information about what’s going on in Red Mountain to you. Here, take this map. It’s based on old data, but I doubt any of the Sixth House Citadels moved since then.”
“Thanks,” says the Nerevarine as he looks at the map. “Do you know any place around here where I could get a drink?
“Yes, go ask Galore Salvi . She runs the Redoran hostel here.”
The Nerevarine walks over to the counter that the Salyn Sarethi pointed towards and orders a drink. Also at the counter is an old, bolding Imperial veteran.
“Hi,” says the Nerevarine. “So how’s the food and drinks here.”
“Oh, it’s super. I’m Wulf. So what are you doing here?”
“I’m the Nerevarine, and I’m going up the mountain to defeat Dagoth Ur,” lies the Nerevarine.
“I remember when did things like that for the Imperial Legion, but I’m too old to take part in the action. Hey, can you do a favor for me?”
“Yes, of course. What do you want?”
“When I was fighting in the war, I had many close calls, but I’ve always had a peace of luck. Take this old coin. It’s giving me lots of luck in the past, but I fell you can make better use of it than me. Take it up to Red Mountain with you.”
“Thanks,” says the Nerevarine as you takes the coin. “Whenever I go, it’s going with me.”
“You’re welcome and good luck. May you make the best choices in the future.”
After having a drink and taking a quick nap, the Nerevarine decides to leave.
[edit] Chapter 7: Dagoth Ur
The Nerevarine makes it to the top of Red Mountain. He feels very lucky. He did not get lost this time and there was not thousands of cliff-racers attacking him. Perhaps the coin Wulf gave him really does have luck. The Nerevarine then enters Dagoth Ur. He travels through the Dwemer halls to the Heart Chamber and talks to Dagoth Ur.
“I did it. I have Wraithguard!” says the Nerevarine.
“Good. Give it to me,” says Dagoth Ur. The Nerevarine gives him Wraithguard, and Dagoth Ur says, “Now we can finally complete the Akulakhan, but first, I’ll study Wraithguard and uncover its secrets. We’re ahead of schedule, so we can accelerate our plans. As you know, we depend on smugglers to spread ash statues throughout the island, but we still lack support from the biggest criminal organization on Morrowind. Go to Orvas Dren and tell him we have Wraithguard. He’ll realize that there isn’t anything that can stop us now. He’ll have to join us.”
“Alright,” says the Nerevarine. “I’ll do it.”
The Nerevarine feels lucky going down the Mountain as well. He cannot wait to tell Wulf about this when he arrives at the Ghostgate. The Nerevarine arrives at and enters the Ghostgate. He looks around, but he cannot find any trace of where Wulf is.
The Nerevarine walks up to Galore Salvi and asks her, “Where’s Wulf?”
“Who’s Wulf?” says Galore Salvi. “I’ve never seen him before.”
“You know,” says the Nerevarine. “He was that old Imperial Legion veteran that was here the last I was here.”
“What are you talking about? There hasn’t been an Imperial soldier here in years.”
“That can’t be. I talked to him. He was here!”
The Nerevarine talks to everybody, but no one has ever seen him. The Nerevarine begins to doubt his sanity, but he knows that Wulf was real and he was here. However, the Nerevarine decides not to talk about it anymore, so nobody would think that he is crazy. “Who is Wulf and how come I’m the only one who remembers him?” the Nerevarine asks to himself.
[edit] Chapter 8: Orvas Dren
The Nerevarine finally arrives at Dren Plantation. Despite its size and fabulous architecture, the plantation still had a sad atmosphere. There are Slaves working the fields, and there are some Camonna Tong thugs smuggling skooma in crates. He wishes that Dagoth had asked him to make an alliance with the Thieves Guild instead, but the Nerevarine knows in his heart that the Thieves Guild would never side with the Sixth House.
The Nerevarine enters Orvas Dren’s Villa. Although Orvas Dren agreed to support the Nerevarine’s bid to become Hortator, he did not officially ally himself with the House Dagoth. He was not completely sure that the Sixth House had the power to defeat the combined forces of the Tribunal and the Empire, but that has all changed now.
“Dagoth Ur thinks that you’re ready to make your final decision,” says the Nerevarine. “We have all three tools now. The Tribunal and the Empire can’t hope to stop us now.”
“Yes, I see that now, and I would’ve been more than happy to help you,” says Orvas Dren. He pauses and then says, “However, I’m not the sole leader of the Camonna Tong, nor am I the most powerful man in House Hlaalu anymore.”
“What do you mean?” asks the Nerevarine.
“I’ve recently made Raynasa Rethan my partner in crime, and then my brother made her the new Grandmaster of House Hlaalu.”
The Nerevarine already knows who Raynasa Rethan is. She “stole” Robe of St. Roris from Assemanu and returned it back to the Temple. However, this sparks another question in the Nerevarine’s head. “How did an outlander and an Imperial sympathizer become a leader of the Camonna Tong?”
A mixture of anger and embarrassment appears on Dren’s head. The Nerevarine knows that he would rather not answer, but Dren says, “She blackmailed me. She stole an incriminating letter from me, and she used it to become the leader of the Camonna Tong.”
“If I get this letter for you, will you support the Sixth House?”
“Of course I would. You’re the only ones who could free Morrowind from the Empire. Raynasa Rethan lives in her manor on Odai Plateau , so she most likely keep the letter there.”
“Alright,” says the Nerevarine. “I’ll get your letter back.”
[edit] Chapter 9: Raynasa Rethan
The Nerevarine arrives at Rethan Manor. It resembles a smaller version of Balmora due to its architecture. The Nerevarine then goes to the local inn and rents a room. While in the room, the Nerevarine takes off his heavy armor and dresses in dark clothing. He is preparing to steal the letter.
At nighttime, the Nerevarine sneaks out of the inn and into Raynasa Rethan’s mansion undetected. He sneaks past the guards and waits for the guard at the door of Raynasa Rethan’s room to move away. The Nerevarine opens the door slowly and quietly, goes in, and closes the door quietly behind him.
Raynasa Rethan is sleeping in the room, so the Nerevarine walks slowly in order to avoid making a sound. Although the room is dark, the Nerevarine spots a small, golden chest glistening in the moonlight from the window. The Nerevarine decides that the letter must be in there. The Nerevarine carefully picks the lock and opens it. He sees a note inside and reads it. It talks about Dren’s plan to kill his brother. This is it. The Nerevarine takes the letter and sneaks away as stealthily as he entered.
The Nerevarine returns to Dren Plantation and says to her, “Here, I have your letter. Raynasa Rethan can’t ham you now.”
“Good,” says Dren happily. “I’ll make sure to keep this well-hidden and well-protected. Now Raynasa Rethan is only House Hlaalu’s leader in name only. For your help and promise to free Morrowind from the Empire, I agree to form an alliance with you and the Sixth House. We’ll now smuggle and distribute your ash stature any place possible.”
“Thanks,” says the Nerevarine. “Morrowind’s independence will come soon.”
[edit] Chapter 10: The Assassin
It is still dark and the Nerevarine feels very tired, so he decides to spend the rest of the night at the Halfway Inn in Pelagiad. The Nerevarine rents a room and sleeps.
The Nerevarine has been in deep sleep for about an hour. Suddenly, a small noise wakes up the Nerevarine. At first, the Nerevarine does not see him, but the Nerevarine suddenly realizes that there is a man dressed totally in black in the room. The man notices that the Nerevarine is awake, so he draws out his dagger and attacks.
The Nerevarine reacts quickly. He jumps out of door and grabs his sword. The Nerevarine thrusts his sword forewords and stabs the assassin in the heart. The assassin’s dagger was too short to block or hit the Nerevarine.
The Nerevarine lights a torch and looks at the assassin. He is dressed in a strange sort of dark black light armor. The Nerevarine examines the body. The assassin is dead.
Suddenly, the Nerevarine hears Dagoth Ur’s voice in his head. “You survived the attack. This is good. However, I don’t know who the assassin was or who hired him. Go tell a guard about this. We need you, so anybody who attacks you is also our enemy.”
The Nerevarine rushes out of the inn and speaks to an Imperial Guard and leads him to the dead assassin in the inn.
“So what do think?” asks the Nerevarine.
“From the description of the attack and the armor on his body,” says the guard. “I say that he’s a Dark Brotherhood assassin.”
“What’s the Dark Brotherhood?” asks the Nerevarine.
“They’re a group of assassin. They’re very good and well-trained assassin. They’ll attack again. You better start writing your will.”
“Wait!” says the Nerevarine. “Isn’t there anything you can do?”
“I’m not sure, but you should probably make an official report of this. Go find Apelles Matius. He has just arrived from Cyrodiil. He likes to walk about at Ebonheart.
“Thanks,” says the Nerevarine as he leaves.
[edit] Chapter 11: Transport
The Nerevarine goes to Ebonheart and finds Apelles Matius walking around outside the fort. He is dressed in fancy Adamantium armor.
“Excuse,” says the Nerevarine. “A guard told me to find you. I’ve just been attacked by a Dark Brotherhood assassin.”
“The Dark Brotherhood attacked you?” says Apelles Matius. “That’s strange. The Dark Brotherhood usually operates on the mainland. Vvardenfell usually gets little trouble from them.”
“Can you do anything about?” says the Nerevarine.
“Sorry, I can’t do anything other than filing a report.”
“Then I’ll find them myself. Do you know where I should start?”
“You want to take on the Dark Brotherhood! You’ll kill myself, but it’s your life. They work mainly out of Mournhold, but people from Vvardenfell have lots of trouble getting in. They’re afraid of the Blight. However, my friend Asciene Rane may know a way to transport you there. Speak to her in the castle’s Grand Council Chambers.”
The Nerevarine enters the Grand Council Chambers and speaks to Asciene Rane. “Excuse me, but Apelles Matius told me that you can transport me to Mournhold.”
“Yes, I can,” says Apelles Matius. “It’s probably the only people you can get there due to all the fear they have about Blight. Why do you want to go?”
“The Dark Brotherhood wants me dead and I need to know who’s behind it,” answers the Nerevarine.
“Yes, if the Dark Brotherhood was hunting me, I would want to stop them too,” says Asciene Rane. “However, they’re the ones who are most likely to stop you. If you’re sure if you want to enter this fool’s quest, I’ll transport you there. Are you ready?”
The Nerevarine thinks about this and realizes that he something he needs to do. “Sorry,” says the Nerevarine. “I have one more thing to check on before I leave.”
“Alright, I’ll be waiting for you.”
[edit] Chapter 12: A Curse or Blessing
This is Ebonheart. This is the seat of Imperial government on Vvardenfell. There has to be records of some of all of the soldiers on the island. Someone here must know Wulf.
The Nerevarine climbs up the staircase in the Grand Council Chambers and talks to the Knight of the Imperial Dragon Varus Vantinius.
“Do you know Wulf?” asks the Nerevarine. “He’s an old veteran of the Imperial Legion.”
“Sorry,” says Varus Vantinius. “I’ve never heard of him. If he’s an old legionary, then perhaps he had visited Lalatia Varian. She sometimes heals the wounds of old war veterans. She can be here at Ebonhearts’s Imperial Chapel.”
“Thanks,” says the Nerevarine and heads up in search of Lalatia Varian.
The Nerevarine enters the chapel and speaks to Lalatia Varian. “Do you know an old Imperial legionary named Wulf?” says the Nerevarine.
“No, I don’t,” answers the Imperial Oracle. “Why do you want him for?”
“He gave you this old coin, and it has brought me luck ever since.”
“Really? It’s rare for random objects to bring people luck. Can I see it? Perhaps it has some sort of enchantment.”
The Nerevarine gives Lalatia Varian the coin, and she examines it carefully.
“Wow!” says the Oracle. “I believe that this coin has been blessed by one of the Divines. From your description of Wulf, I think that that God was none other than Tiber Septim, who is know here as Talos.”
“Why would Talos give this to me?” asks the Nerevarine.
“I’m not sure. Maybe he wanted to bless you, or maybe he wanted to curse you.”
“Thanks for the information,” says the Nerevarine.
He takes the coin and leaves. The Nerevarine feels that he receives the best answer possible; however, he still does not know why Talos gave him the coin. Does he know that he is a part of the Sixth House?
[edit] Chapter 13: Mournhold
The Nerevarine returns to Asciene Rane. “I ready now,” he says to Asciene Rane.
“Good. I’ll send you there right away,” she says back. “If you need to return here, talk to Effe-Tei in the Royal Palace. Bye.”
Suddenly, the Nerevarine vanishes and reappears in Mournhold’s Royal Palace. Directly in front of him is an Argonian.
“How did you get here?” asks the Argonian.
“Are you Effe-Tei?” says the Nerevarine.
“Yes, I am,” answers the Argonian. “See, answering questions isn’t that hard. Now it’s your turn to answer my question.”
“Asciene Rane teleported me here. She said that you can transport me back to Vvardenfell if I need to go back.”
“I see. A friend of Asciene Rane is a friend of mine. Why did you go through all the trouble of coming here?”
“Somebody is sending Dark Brotherhood assassins after me and I need to stop it.”
“You must be something special to have lived this long. I don’t know where they are, but there are rumors that they live in the sewers and old ruins under the city. Perhaps you should start your investigation there.”
“Thanks,” says the Nerevarine as he leaves.
[edit] Chapter 14: Old Mournhold
The Nerevarine wanders through the sewers and the ruins of Old Mournhold. He fights rats, goblins, and the undead. Eventually, the Nerevarine reaches one of the deepest parts of the old city. The Nerevarine hides in a corner. He sees two people in the trademark Dark Brotherhood armor. They are the assassins.
The Nerevarine jumps out of the corner. The assassins sees him and charges at him. The Nerevarine fights and kills them. He then goes farther in the ruins and fights more assassin. He enters a few of the manors there and battles more assassins.
Then Nerevarine finally finds Dandras Vules, who is the assassin in charge of Morrowind’s Dark Brotherhood operations.
“It was foolish to enter this place,” says the Dunmer assassin. “Now you’ll receive a quick death.”
The Dark Brotherhood leader attacks the Nerevarine. The Nerevarine fights back. The assassin’s dagger and light armor are not any match to the Nerevarine’s long sword and heavy armor; however, the assassin still possesses great skill. Finally, the Nerevarine makes a giant swing with his sword and knocks the assassin’s blade out of his hand. Dandras Vules is now defenseless against the Nerevarine’s final blow.
The Nerevarine’s sword tears into the assassin’s armor, and Dandras Vules drops to the ground. The fight is over. Dandras Vules gives out his final words: “No… I’ve failed…”
The Nerevarine examines the body. There has to be some clue to who hired him for the job.
