Actually, yes, we do have a templated welcome message that we often use as a shortcut. The purpose of the message is to provide useful links to help them get the hang of things around here, plus it's kind of nice for us to have a quick way to welcome new users while we're also busy with other things ;). –Eshe^talk 18:09, 15 April 2008 (EDT)
