Questions[edit]

Thanks for all the work you've been doing! I have two questions for you:

  • First, where are you getting the list of permanent corpses from? While I've been able to verify most of them readily enough, I can't confirm some of them without a lot of tracing through game code. If they're from a specific location that gives and details, that would be helpful. Also, if there are any more, can you use the NPC Summary parameter instead of a hard-coded category, please (see what I've done on any of the pages you added it to).
I've been referencing two sources in addition to personal experience:
elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Dead_Thrall
gamefaqs.com/pc/615805-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/faqs/64585
I'll review what you've done and go that route moving forward. I didn't create that category, just added pages to it since it only had 4 entries prior to my editing... which is what led me to the creation of the thralls don't moan category. • Second, what's the purpose behind the new thralls that don't moan category? We generally don't add categories unless they would help people locate or organize information in some fashion, so I'm just wondering how it might help the player or editors to know that a thrall doesn't moan.
For players who are interested in exploring the limits of the dead thrall spell; it can be useful to be able to determine which thralls retain their original vocal clips. From my own experience and that which I have tested from other sources, there are a handful of NPCs which meet this criteria and it can make the game play that much more enjoyable. The incessant moaning of the standard generic thrall can be an annoyance, and without this information players may spend countless hours testing to find a thrall which does not moan, or else play the game on mute. Is there a better format or method or better place to include this information?? (talk) 23:30, 6 February 2017 (UTC)Mwakefield (talk) 23:45, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Welcome to the wiki Mwakefield, please don't be put off editing by the following. We already generally know the NPCs that don't moan as described in the note on the thralls page. The category serves no practical purpose nor can be it readily verified, plus the category as it is is poorly named without proper category capitalisation and disambiguation. Not every little interesting titbit about the game deserves anything more than a note about it on the proper pages; this is one of those titbits. Thralls are in essence permanent zombies, to which you would expect incessant moaning, the silent ones and those that retain their vocals are actually an oversight and not what the game intended, so having them is contrary to intended gameplay. Following on Silencer's suggestions, and in response to your question, I would say that unless there are a large number of them, a note on the Dead Thrall page listing the various names is sufficient. Or even if there are a large number of them, if they can be summarized readily (e.g., "all actors with X voicetype"), that would also be sufficient. While it's interesting information, I'm not sure it notable enough to merit its own category. Failing all else, another route to consider would be to just post the information to the talk page. This is a particularly good way to go in cases like this where the information will be notable to some players, but probably not many. Robin Hood  (talk) 23:56, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
