Boethia's Chosen[edit]

Hi rpeh. When you have the time do you think you could tell me if the health and magicka params here are correct? Also, I didn't know how to add the strength and endurance bonuses to the formula so if you know how to do it, can you please tell me how. Thanks! --S'drassa T2M 18:33, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

I've tweaked the values in your sandbox. It looks like you were adding 50 to both health and magicka, but otherwise they were pretty much accurate. I understood how to do it all once, but not any more. These days I use a little program I wrote when I still understood! I'll upload it at some point. rpeh •TCE 06:58, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
File:NPC StatGen.zip. I fixed a few bugs today so I might need to go back and re-do some of my recent additions. rpeh •TCE 07:05, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! It will be most helpful. Although there seems to be some discrepancies with the calculator and some of the current formulae in the NPCs pages. Try using it to determine Mankar Camoran, Mannimarco or Havilstein Hoar-Blood for example, it seems that the max level isn't the same and also it seems that some magicka values for some NPCs (mostly Imperials, who seem to have both 113 and 100 as calculated spell points) also differ. Oh, and yeah I added 50 points of health and magicka because they receive a fortification from a unique ability, but I thought that it should be implemented that way, like with Mannimarco and Mankar? --S'drassa T2M 17:22, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
I didn't realise about the special ability - yes, that will need adding back in. Sorry about that.
For Mankar and Mannimarco, they both have extra abilities that boost magicka and/or health, which need adding in manually. I think there's a separate problem caused by a tweak I made this morning, which is pushing off the max level and also some of the values. I'll take a look at the code. rpeh •TCE 17:29, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
The other discrepancy in the base values is that you need to add 5 to the calculated Strength, Endurance, and Intelligence for the class abilities.
@S'drassa: Health is based on an average of Strength and Endurance, so this means you need to add 2.5 to the base if Strength is a class ability and another 2.5 if Endurance is; for Magicka, it's 2.5 times that, so add 12.5 if Intelligence is a class ability. (In both cases, round off normally...that's why you often saw a difference of 13.) The class abilities for base Oblivion classes can be seen at NPC Classes. I'm not sure if we have comparable pages elsewhere for SI and the other add-ons. Robin Hoodtalk 10:02, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
Rounding has nothing to do with it. rpeh •TCE 10:22, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

(outdent) I've uploaded a new version. The max levels are still sometimes 1 out, which could be a rounding issue this time, but it needs in-game testing first to ensure that the values we have are accurate. rpeh •TCE 00:53, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I just corrected some health values and almost finished it off, although I'm still hesitant to release it since I'm not quite sure of how to handle the bonuses to strength and endurance. Since they are implemented as an ability similar to that of the Lady's or the Warrior's, I'm not quite sure of how they may affect the formula or if they do anything at all, so any input you migh thave would be helpful :) --S'drassa T2M 03:54, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
I've uploaded another version. This one lets you specify bonuses for health, magicka, endurance, intelligence and strength so you can add in the special bonuses for the Chosen. Note that you don't need to add race / class bonuses because they're included when you choose the race and class from the dropdowns. rpeh •TCE 09:22, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
I decided to launch the page without including the bonuses to strength and endurance because I'm still unsure about their actual effect, since if it was indeed applied to the formula they would end up with a massive amount of health. However, if it's wrong please feel free to correct it. Also, thanks rpeh, your NPC stats calculator was very useful :) --S'drassa T2M 17:35, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I have a question.[edit]

Umm...How do you get an image from to your profile? You can already see why. Lol. Jeanne Frasoric 08:28, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Sorry... I don't understand the question. From what? rpeh •TCE 08:37, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

OH! I'm sorry, typo. I meant put an image on your User Page. Jeanne Frasoric 08:39, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Ah. There's a good tutorial on how to do that here. For more advanced tips, try looking at the source for pages like mine or Timenn's. You'll soon get the hang of it! rpeh •TCE 09:32, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Lord n' Captains[edit]

I'm in the CS - and I see that there are three dremora captains (Who all are exact copies) and one Dremora Lord. All four are at random spawn points. Should they get their own page, or a redirect to the Dremora page? --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 19:47, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

There is also a special Sigil Keeper set at two locations and a Siege Crawler Sentry at two possible spawn points. --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 19:48, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Thinking about it, it would be better to fill out the rest of the Oblivion:Dremora page rather than giving their own NPC page. Less effort and more consistent. Not sure how I missed the Sigil keeper as a page to do though.... rpeh •TCE 19:55, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

The Collector[edit]

I asked about the quest related tag on the quest talk page a while ago. Since I've now cleared up the problem should I go ahead and just copy the version here over to the page?--TheAlbinoOrcany_questions? 18:09, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure that's a very good idea... the whole idea of the {{Place Link}} template is that it keeps descriptions consistent. Manually adding them defeats that purpose. rpeh •TCE 20:23, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

A little NPC for you :)[edit]

Hey there! Since I don't think you've worked enough today (sorry, I forgot the <sarcasm> tags :P), I figured you could redeem yourself by checking the last stuff remaining here. ;) --SerCenKing Talk 16:06, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Done. Actually it's been a relatively light day. I've had work to do so I've just been loading up a few random pages when I felt like a quick break and seeing if anything needed doing. There's a worrying amount of stuff that could use a brush up... rpeh •TCE 16:19, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
Tell me about it! In any case, I've done a few Stirk NPCs, so if you feel like a bit more OBNPCRP, you could check those out. --SerCenKing Talk 17:18, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
Wow, you really have been busy! I'll take a pass at TR4 stuff tomorrow with any luck. We're getting close to finishing it! rpeh •TCE 21:07, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

A quick Relmyna question[edit]

Hey there! As you know, I'm in the middle of investigating Relmyna Verenim, but I'm a bit stuck at the moment, so I figured I'd ask you. It is about her whereabouts inside Xaselm at the beginning of the Rebuilding the Gatekeeper quest (the first time you visit her). She tortures her victims insanely and makes some pretty funny observations along the way; still, she occasionally visits a Sheogorath bust in another room for a quick prayer, then returns to her experiments. What I wanted to ask was; are there any kind of system in her behavior? How often will she pray near the Sheo bust? Are there something that determines how many victims she will torture at a time? Hope you have the time to look it up. :) --Krusty 13:15, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Oh boy. Not an easy question. She prays when a variable called "prayed" is 0, which happens at the end of the SERelmynaResurrectVictim3 package. I'll dig deeper and work out exactly what the sequence is, because at first glance it looks about 8 packages are all linked together like this. rpeh •TCE 13:21, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Ack! And I thought it was an easy one. Ah well, hopefully you can figure it out - and until then, I'll just skip that part. Thanks for the quick reply. --Krusty 13:27, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Okay...
She begins by casting her spell on victim 1 (Female Altmer). As soon as the spell hits, she starts taking notes. When the victim dies, she will resurrect her then cast the spell again, take notes again, and resurrect the victim again. She then does the same on victim 2 (Male Breton), then victim 3 (Male Orc). Once that's complete, THEN she goes to worship at Sheo's bust.
One easy bit: she sleeps from midnight to 6am. However, if the player
It's not quite that easy though. If the player hasn't seen her do an experiment, she will start work on victim 1 no matter where she was. The scripting suggests this is to make sure the player sees the full set, but I think that's wrong. I think she'll do one hit on victim 1 then go back to wherever she was. That's probably too much hassle to be worth mentioning, TBH.
She's horrible! rpeh •TCE 13:37, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Damn, this is worse than I expected. Tested her during the first stages of the quest and after completing it, and at least she seems to have the same behavior and the same packages on both occasions. However, she is problematic; first of all, I can't make her sleep at all, she simply avoids the bedroom no matter how many experiments I have seen her perform. She only performs her experiments and prays. While it seems to be more or less correct that she will torture all three victims before praying, she will, at first glance, always start with the Orc, then the Female Altmer (who screams with a male voice, btw) and then the Male Breton. More annoyance can be found when she is torturing the Orc and positions herself in front of the Push Button instead, causing her to keep casting spells on the button and be stuck. It is not worth mentioning on any page, but it is worth knowing if anybody asks. Nevertheless, the schedule will probably not be overly complicated to write, but a bug description about her missing sleep is probably a good idea at some point. Oh, and the Orc description on the Victim page should probably be corrected at some point too. Thanks for the tips - hopefully we can limit this to a sleeping bug. Man, she must have a LOT of packages all in all... --Krusty 17:05, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I'll double-check it all at some point, 'cos it's odd I got the Orc thing wrong on the Victim page. I've been busy on the Oblivion Mod Wiki today. rpeh •TCE 17:11, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
One more thing, totally unrelated, but I might as well put it here instead of creating a new talk page; I just followed Jolie Retiene and she never ventures outside. Another one of our beloved bugs? --
Looks like. She has a "find" package with no target item and the location center is right on the junction between the main road and the small village road. Since there's no target item, she evidently doesn't bother. rpeh •TCE 20:44, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

You really deserve one![edit]

Dupineon Magicka[edit]

Hey rpeh, I just finished writing Dupineon's page and I ran into something interesting: his Magicka is listed as 235 on his page and in the CS; this would mean he can't cast one of his spells (Ice Bolt). However, he possesses the Altmer racial birthsign which gives him an extra 100 magicka... Is this already included in the 235 or not? Also, in the CS I see "Calced Spell Pts." as 470 - is that his Magicka or what? I'm a bit confused ;) --SerCenKing Talk 21:09, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Curses. The birthsign isn't included. I double-checked in the game and he has 335 magicka. We'll need to check all the fixed-level Altmer and Bretons. rpeh •TCE 09:00, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Does that apply to those from OB also? Or is this Stirk specific?--TheAlbinoOrcany_questions? 14:05, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
It's already been done for the Oblivion NPCs. I just forgot to factor in the race when I generated the data. rpeh •TCE 14:08, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

What is that??[edit]

What is that??? Specifically the weird thing to the left of Bogrum that seems to have writing on it.... xD Have a found a "dirty" pic? ;) Just kidding, I felt like I had to annoy you out of spite for the great work you're doing on images. :) --SerCenKing Talk 13:52, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Damn. That's a clock from the Clocks of Cyrodiil mod. Good spot - I'll have to take another. rpeh •TCE 13:56, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
Don't worry about it, unless you really look hard for it, it goes relatively unobserved :) --SerCenKing Talk 14:29, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
I'm not criticizing you or anything, but I am curious; what is in the background of Ragbag Buntara's picture? Gold... pretty... --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 19:27, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
Double damn. Another clock! I've got so used to them everywhere that I don't realise they're there any more. rpeh •TCE 19:35, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
Bad news is: Bernadette Peneles, Batul gra-Shargob, Arnora Auria, Brother Hjar, Brodras, Ariela Doran and Burd are washed out. There might be more too - This is just from the first 200. Good news is: The first 200 NPCs are free of clocks.
Caula Alectius, Cast Flavus, Chapel Guard, Christoper Marane, Cicero Verus, Cingor, Cirroc, Clessa, Claudette Perrick, Colatinius Vedas, Corvus Umbranox, Cosmus the Cheat, Countess Ariana Valga, Dahlia Rackham, Dairihil, Dar-Ma, Deeh the Scalawag, Degil, Demetrius, Dennelwin, Dhola, Dro'Shanjii, Dynari Amnus, Eilonwy, Elragail, Elissa Perienne, Edla Dark-Heart, Else God-Hater, Eridor, Erina Jeranus, Estelle Renoit, Eyja, Falcar, Ferul Ravel, Fjotreid, Floyd Nathans, The Forgotten Ones, Francine Velain, Gaturn gro-Gonk, Gerard Melie, Gerich Senarel, Gilgondorin, Giovanni, Glarthir, Glistel, Graglak gro-Buglump, The Grey Prince, The Grey Fox, Gregory Arne, Gul gro-Gorbog, Gundalas, Gromm, Gueryne Selvilo, Gruiand Garrana, Gwendolyn, Gwinas, the second Hackdirt Brother and Guilbert Selone also suffer from washing-out. No clocks yet though!--TheAlbinoOrcany_questions? 20:42, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
None of those are mine though :)
If you find any that you think need sorting out, slap a {{Cleanup}} tag on them and I'm sure somebody will get around to it before too long. rpeh •TCE 20:16, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
I wish I'd seen this before putting up 58 more people (probably actually more like 70-75 with all the Forgotten Ones). Any of them yours?--TheAlbinoOrcany_questions? 20:46, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
Several of the latter set are mine, but I'm beginning to think the problem is with your monitor. No way is Dar-Ma's image washed out! I'd put that down as one of my best-balanced images. Some of the others, like Falcar aren't washed out but I agree the colours could be better, and ones like Gerard Melie are, if anything, too dark. rpeh •TCE 20:52, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
I must agree with rpeh here, Dar-Ma is probably one of the best NPC images on the site. I don't know if I'm understanding "washed out" correctly... what exactly do you mean? --SerCenKing Talk 20:54, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

() I don't understand that "washed-out"-term either - checked a few of the images you listed and couldn't find anything wrong at all. And Dar-Ma is definitely alright. --Krusty 20:57, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Whoops! Dar-Ma is perfect. What I saw was her clothes - I thought that white was scales. I messed up on some of the others because I did things like noticing bright spots on the floor (Gerard Melie) and assumed that the NPC was too bright. That kind of thing can multiply really quickly when you go through 400 NPCs. Washed-out probably isn't the best term here either. I was using that on some NPCs that weren't quite within the definition but couldn't come up with something better. Some of them were iffy too. I wasn't actually looking at the full images on most of these anyway - I only checked those out if it looked like maybe there was something wrong with it maybe there wasn't so it's possible that the thumbs aren't the best thing for checking these out.--TheAlbinoOrcany_questions? 21:30, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

I Hate Wiki Politics....[edit]

Specifically because of issues like the one on Subjective Content. I agree with you that it is unfair to change the terms of the votes when people have already voted. However, I did say that the requirements were up to discussion, and GK (and some of the others) have done so. Which is why I'm in a bind here. No one seems to oppose the system, so the issue is mainly the details of the test drive. Since I really have no idea what I should do next, could you provide some wisdom? If you were in my position, where a change to an initial proposal was requested by several users, but was not accepted by (or brought to the attention of) several other users, what would you do? All of this is making my head spin right now -- Jplatinum16 19:07, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

I think setting specific criteria for judgement is probably a bad idea. We might get 50 editors making one little tweak or 1 editor adding 50 new ideas, either of which probably indicates success, but neither of which are likely to qualify under a set of specific figures.
I would suggest putting everything in place and setting a time for a review: say two weeks or a month. That might sound like a cop-out and just a way of pushing a final decision back, but until we see exactly how the system works and who is using it, anything more specific is probably not possible. rpeh •TCE 19:15, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Sandbox tweaks[edit]

Hey, just to warn you I uploaded some corrected images, and thought I'd do you a favour by removing the ones I've done from your sandbox. Since I was there, I also removed the redlinks for images you had already done. My only doubts are for this and this image. While they could be retaken surely, I don't see why they need to be in 4:3 since they are an NPC and creature image. In fact this isn't only for these two images but for all images that are used on quest pages but are not "-quest-" images. --SerCenKing Talk 21:55, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Feel free to update the list as you need.
There's a note on the Quest images section about 4:3 images. A lot of quests use creature or NPC pictures rather than their own. In that kind of case, the best thing is to get a whole new image for the quest, but that's not always possible. The 1:1 format for NPCs and creatures takes precedence in such cases. rpeh •TCE 10:18, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Ahh, right I see. I'll try to get some new ones for SI and TR4 for then! --SerCenKing Talk 10:29, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I kind of butted in also if you haven't noticed (I took off Tsiya). I think I can help get some square images for the visually challenged residents of Vvardenfell. -- Jplatinum16 05:06, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Anyone can help! I had no idea just how many images needed re-doing. rpeh •TCE 10:12, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

TR3 Temple Quest Question[edit]

Hey, I added the Shrine of Solitude quest here, but I'm thinking I'm wrong, since I realised it's listed below in the "Map 2" quests and its id is ".._m2_..". I've just started the Temple quests and have done the Purging and Wisdom pilgrimages. Does this mean I can only do the Isle of Arches quest or can I do the two pilgrimage quests which are marked as Map 2 as well? --SerCenKing Talk 09:43, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

You can do any three pilgrimage quests to join the temple as far as I can tell from the scripts. It seems as though promotion in the temple will be at least partly down to the number of pilgrimages you complete, so it'll be worth completing all of them at some point.
I'm not sure how we'll want to list quests in the end. Right now, keeping a map1/map2 split makes sense largely because map 2 only has those two temple quests and it'll be easier to wee what's changed when it gets quests added. I believe map 1 is getting more quests at some point, too. rpeh •TCE 09:49, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

KotN Redirects?[edit]

Hey Rpeh - when I was writing the Areldur page earlier today, I considered making redirects for the KotN-NPCs who suffers a namechange when they change faction in the game; Areldur=Sir Areldur, Avita Vesnia=Sir Avita ect ect. I didn't make the redirects right away, out of fear that the idea had been discussed before my time - and opposed for some reason. Still, what do you think? Is it necessary - or even useful making the "Sir"-redirects? --Krusty 20:20, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

It's definitely a good idea, and I'm a bit surprised it hasn't already been done. I did something similar in the Stirk mod with Interim Captain Cartello Stirk who ends up being simply Captain Cartello Stirk. I think a redirect to the final name from the original name is the right way to go, then put the redirect in Category:Redirects from Alternate Names. That way, the wiki reflects how things start out and can then mention what changes. Makes more sense to me that way around. rpeh •TCE 20:24, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
That makes sense - actually I found it very strange that a search for "Sir Areldur" came up with nothing. So, basically you're suggesting that I move all the relevant NPC pages and rename them to their "Knightly" name? (Like Oblivion:Sir Areldur) and create Redirects from their "Civil" name? Makes sense to me - still, I'm not really sure how to add them to that Category you are suggesting. --Krusty 20:45, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
No, I think the main page should be their start name (ie, "Civil" name) but have redirects from their "Knightly" names. We may want {{NeedsImage}} tags on those too, for pre- and post- transition. rpeh •TCE 20:47, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Ah, that's even easier - then it is just the Redirects that needs to be created. I'll go ahead and create them and add the Redirects to the Category (Yes, I figured it out) ;) --Krusty 20:51, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

New way of handling spells?[edit]

I known this should be on the project talk page, but I just wanted to hear your thoughts on this. I've been thinking of doing spells on NPC pages in a much more detailed fashion. Based on this page, I realised that for unleveled NPCs we can pretty much specify which spells they may have. Of course, I still haven't tested this with an NPC with a lot of spells, so I don't know exactly how the layout would work. In any case, I've been working on documenting all leveled spells lists in my sandbox here. The only problem I came across while trying to do Ancotar is that his spell lists had "lvl" stuck on them. Does that means that the spells are chosen in regards to your level, and thus disregarding the NPC's skill or what? --SerCenKing Talk 16:12, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

The Lvl thing is whether or not the "Calculate from all levels <= PC's level" flag is checked. On LL0SummonDaedraMajorLvl100 (for instance) it's not ticked, and on LL0SummonDaedraMajor100 it is. That means Ancotar (and anyone else using the lvl lists) will always use the highest-leveled spell available, but other people may use a lower-leveled one.
Your sandbox looks good... I'm a bit worried it might get too complex, but it'll be very useful if it doesn't. rpeh •TCE 16:36, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, so when you say "the highest-leveled spell available", does that mean the highest-leveled spell available which he can cast? For example, does that mean he will choose the Apprentice level Bound Axe spell if he chooses LL0BoundWeaponMinor from his Conjuration package? Or lets take his Illusion package, if he chooses the Silence package will he get the Master spell or the Journeyman spell, since his skill is 66?
As for the sandbox, it's finished. All of the eighteen class leveled lists are on there, and I'm planning to add specific ones to the relative NPC(s) page (like what is done on the Necromancer page for example). --SerCenKing Talk 16:50, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
I don't know. I suspect the way leveled lists work mean that it won't take his casting abilities into account, but that would need ingame testing. rpeh •TCE 17:00, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Ok, so I did a bit of testing today, and here are the results. I created a new leveled spells list with all three boxes ticked ("Calculate for all levels <= PC's level" etc), I put in two spells: StandardFireDamageTarget5Master and StandardShockDamageTarget1Novice. I then added it to TestBreton, and tweaked his Magicka to 700 (so he could cast the master spell) and his Destruction skill to 20. I placed him in TestCave01 and attacked him. Five times out of five, he used his shock spell. This would seem to suggest that the most important thing is his skill level, because although he had the Magicka to cast the Fire spell, he didn't have the skill. This would also suggest that skill values are taken into account. In any case, if you want to check yourself, just to be sure, I can email you the .esp. --SerCenKing Talk 07:50, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes... but what would have happened if the leveled list had only given him the fire spell? That's the important thing. Uncheck the "Calculate for all levels..." box, make the fire spell only available at level 20, set the Breton's level to 20+ and see what happens. I have a feeling he'll get the fire spell... but dunno if he'll be able to use it. rpeh •TCE 08:19, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Also (Not sure if this still applies to OB, but I can't see why it wouldn't) make sure that you set his Destruction back down if it's one of his major skills.--TheAlbinoOrcany_questions? 12:29, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
I see your point, I'll give it another look at it today. And yes Albino, I know I have to down the Destruction skill (I mentioned it above). --SerCenKing Talk 16:49, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

() Oops. I didn't get that you'd tweaked both before. Too little sleep. Sorry about that!--TheAlbinoOrcany_questions? 18:40, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Right, so guess what. I put the NPC's level at 22 and made the fire spell available at level 20. While his Destruction skill was 20, he was still able to cast the spell. So it looks like you were.. er..umm..right ;) It looks like skill isn't taken into account. However, "lvl" lists (actually only LL2s and LL1s, not LL0s) do check the "Calculate for all levels..." box - what does that even mean? --SerCenKing Talk 17:15, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Curiosity[edit]

Because so many people are able to change their ip, I was wondering if it possible to ban people by mac address. Is it possible? I know you can block people from modems by mac address and just thought it possible to do the same, since they are connecting to the server. If possible you can block processes to a point where they can't post on uesp anymore. P.S. Hopefully life permits me to get back to uesp :) MikeTalk 09:45, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

MAC address doesn't get sent to the site by a user's browser, so the answer to that is "no". That's actually a good thing, or any kind of privacy would be almost impossible. rpeh •TCE 10:43, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
How strange, I know you can get the info, but you have to be real time, than again, thats illegal in most countries :P MikeTalk 11:05, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
MAC Address is not routed through TCP/IP. It is only available on the LAN side of your router Brf 17:25, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Horses & Fast Travel[edit]

Can you please check the VN I put up on here? I'm not really in a position to check it since I don't have the CS.--TAOHuh? 13:30, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

I've never known how horse speed compares to player speed. A black horse has a speed of 33 (Bay=26, Chestnut=29) but I don't think a player with 100 speed is three times faster. rpeh •TCE 13:38, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Took me a while to find this, but I knew I'd read it somewhere. ob:Horses#Useful Spells:
  • "Horses have an incredible speed multiplier - their speed between 23 and 33 is the equivalent of about 70-100 speed for the player."
Still, this likely will need some in-game testing to determine the relationship between the two speed values. --GKtalk2me 19:11, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
I've been playing with it this afternoon, and as far as I can tell, horses use the creature movement speeds from Movement Formulas, substituting their Combat statistic in place of an NPC/player's Athletics skill. So a black horse with a Speed of 33 has a walking speed of 102 and a running speed of 368, which is comparable to a player with a Speed of 30 and an Athletics of 60. This is confirmed using SDT 1 (SDT 6 is useless, since it shows only the player's speed). Obviously, that's stupidly low, especially in light of the fact that a Black Horse will clear the IC bridge in about half the time that the player would.
As mentioned in this protracted discussion, there's an invisible height/scale multiplier in the speed formula. I suspect that's the multiplier that's coming into play here. If you take the calculated speed and double it, you'll have a rough estimate of the actual speed achieved when on a horse. If we can ever figure out exactly how to calculate creature height/speed (or if someone already knows...I've never seen it mentioned anywhere), we'll have a more precise answer. New Job for RoBot[edit]

Since Dark Varla Stones is correct (they look like Varla Stones not Welkynd Stones) and Dark Welkynd Stone/s is used in at least 10 places (likely more; I wasn't in the mood to go through several thousand pages, especially when most of them were simply that dark, Welkynd or stone/s appeared somewhere on the page) can you set RoBot to fix it at some point? Thanks!--TAOHuh? 22:26, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

I suppose so... but that's an extreme task even for a bot. Going through every single page on the site would be a huge task just for ten changes. In addition, they don't even look like Varla stones very much. The CS name for them seems to be "Evil Stones" although there's no name as such, only an editorid (AREvilStonePulsar01 or ARTrapEvilStoneAUTOFIRE01). We might want to use that term instead. rpeh •TCE 08:50, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Good point. Also what exactly is the difference between Pulsar and AUTOFIRE?--Ghurhak gro-DemrilYou would talk? 21:31, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
I wouldn't change the name based on a personal observation. There are more Trap names that are not exactly similar to the Editor names. Mostly because the Editor names don't really translate well to what a reader might understand. Evil Stone isn't a very nice name. As the person who initially compiled the Traps article as it appears now I'd say that it is more important to find descriptive names that make some sense, then using Editor names. Some traps consist of multiple objects which different names (e.g. ARTrapWallCorner01 for the Gas Room parts) so it isn't just a task of refining the Editor names, though I usually took it as the basis for inventing the trap name.
Considering these names have been around for three years now I wouldn't just change them on a whim. All Places pages refer to the traps by name given on the Traps article. In this case, Dark Welkynd Stone was already around before the rewrite in 2007. Nephele believed it could have originated from the official strategy guide (link to relevant discussion). --Timenn-<talk> 10:37, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
Don't worry - I wasn't going to change anything without consulting far more widely. The Strategy guide definitely uses "Dark Welkynd Stone" for the Temple of the AMs, so it might well have started there. I'm not particularly bothered one way or the other - I just wanted to say that "Dark Varla Stone" definitely wasn't a better term. rpeh •TCE 12:05, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
I agree that we shouldn't change it unless we can find solid evidence as to what the intended name was. If anybody complains about the name not matching the appearance, tell them to go look at a "hot dog"...I'm sure the complaints will die off quickly. :) Diverging slightly off-topic to a point in the original post, if something unexpected comes to light and we do decide to change it, if you put quotes around "dark welkynd stone", the search will look for exactly that. It looks like there are only about 15 to 20 pages that match that specific phrase, so not that big of a job. Robin Hoodtalk 19:27, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

A few images perhaps?[edit]

Hey rpeh. If you feel a sudden urge to venture around Cyrodiil with your camera, I could really use 3 images for my upcoming page on Sir Amiel. Of course, the NPC image needs to be square, but that is obvious. Since it going to be another massive page, a 4:3 image of his skeleton inside Vanua would be great as well. Also, as a sidenote; if it is possible to snap a better image of the ghostly knights in the undercroft, I think both the quest page and Sir Amiel's page could benefit from that. No rush or anything - and thanks in advance! --Krusty 08:49, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do. I think I have a few Amiel-relevant saved games.... somewhere. rpeh •TCE 08:51, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Okay. I've uploaded a new version of OB-npc-Sir Amiel.jpg‎ straight over the existing one. I've then got:
I didn't overwrite any existing images so you could pick the ones you desire. Ditto two versions of the corpse pic - I think the bright version is better, but opinions may vary. Delete whichever one you don't want.
Let me know if there's anything else you need. rpeh •TCE 10:57, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Wow, thank you very much! Brilliant images, all three of them - and I definitely agree that the brighter version of the skeleton is the best. I'll get rid of the darker one in a minute. Cheers! --Krusty 11:02, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Apology[edit]

I wasn't aware that the term "POV-pushing" was considered to be quite as bad as it apparently is. One of the main Wikipedia articles I keep an eye on (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) is a highly-controversial article and the term POV gets applied to edits and users there rather frequently. Like SerCenKing, I find a DR that you expect to fail rather puzzling, and I'm simply trying to understand your motive in launching it. But if the term was seen as offensive, which obviously it was, I apologize for using it. Robin Hoodtalk 22:20, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments. I know it's an odd thing to do, but I thought I had explained my reasons clear. I've made my own feelings obvious but it seemed to me that a lot of people were voting for second best. The scheme outlined (very briefly) in the previous deletion review isn't comprehensible, and I decided to start another review now so people like me can clearly give their first preference vote. If the DR fails at this stage, then nobody (myself included) has any justification in calling for the pages to be deleted any time in the near future. If it passes, then the rest of the problem goes away.
This has nothing to do with pushing a particular POV, it is simply allowing people to express their view without having to pick a second best choice right from the start. rpeh •TCE 22:41, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Sir Amiel[edit]

Hey Rpeh! First of all, I noticed you categorized the Amiel Lannus Redirect, which I suppose i correct. I considered it, but since I can only find his full name in this book so I wasn't entirely sure if it needed the category or not, since he never appears in the game under that name. Also, for the record, it is not like I ditched your suggestion for an image description - but I forgot to save it last night and simply couldn't remember it this morning, so feel free to add something a bit more inventive. Finally, I couldn't find room on the page for your image of his Skeleton. The related description appears in the introduction and the NPC Summary gets in the way. If you can think of something, feel free once again; otherwise, it can find a place on both the related quest-page and on the Vanua-page. --Krusty 10:39, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

I usually put the category on just to make things clear but it's no big deal. I can't remember exactly what the caption was - I'll have to look back through IRC logs, but I seem to recall it being a little bit too grand. The one you've got is fine. And I'm sure we'll find a use for his skeleton somewhere. The page looks good though! rpeh •TCE 10:46, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! At some point, the page could use a bit of proof-reading as the amount of lore and, especially, the amount of times I wrote the word "Sir" became overwhelming. But all in all, I'm satisfied with the page - and satisfied knowing that the two most massive KotN NPCs are now more or less completed. --Krusty 10:50, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

That right?[edit]

I was wondering if this was what you had in mind for cleanup, as I didn't add anything, just removed third-person and made it sound less bias. I was going to do the rest of them, but decided to ask for your version of 'cleanup' first. --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 20:22, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Yes.... ish. It solves the 1st person vs 3rd person issue, so thanks for that, but the article is still rubbish.
A while back, one Daggerfall editor created a huge and vastly-overcomplicated system of Tamriel namespace articles (as they they were - long before the move to Lore) and these articles are all that remain. None of them include any references, and I was strongly tempted to propose the whole lot for deletion because the only thing they relate to is Daggerfall, and they're better described there.
For the moment, if you want a nice, easy, but fairly boring project, changing all the first person references to third person would be good. I didn't tag several other articles because there was just enough to justify them staying as they were, but you could profitably look through the 26 Lore:Factions articles for another three or four.
I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that I'm going to have to go through the entire Lore namespace and fix each article one at a time, because it's been hugely neglected in UESP's past. rpeh •TCE 20:30, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Sure, I'll finally have another purpose on the site. ;) --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 22:58, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
If ever you feel you don't have something to do, please, please come and ask! The stuff on my user page is only the big stuff. It's a slow day if I can't find something that needs fixing! You obviously know what you're doing so I'd be happy to suggest things to do if you're short. rpeh •TCE 23:42, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
I turned some of them into quotes - which seems easier. And . . . I'd always take suggestions on something to do, do you have anything in mind? :) --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 21:16, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Looking good. If you want to start looking through the ingame books for other figures to be added to the Lore:People pages, that'd be a big task off my list. rpeh •TCE 23:10, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Tamriel Rebuilt[edit]

Hey, I'm new to this wiki, and to the mod scene of Morrowind. I saw you around the wiki a lot, and you seem pretty knowledgeable about it. I'm trying to get Tamriel Rebuilt, but all the links I try to follow from the UESP article are either broken or require me to pay/be a member of some download site. Do you know of a guaranteed way to get Telvannis? It looks fantastic, and I've been aching to play it. Kierkkadon 03:29, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

The best download site is the one we link to from the Tamriel Rebuilt page - this one. That's the download page maintained by the TR team itself so the files you get from there should always be up to date. All the links there seem to work, and though some of them require you to register, I think they're all free. The ModDB links seem to be free and registration-free too.
It really is a fantastic mod, and when the final versions are released (more quests) it'll be even better! I hope you enjoy it too. rpeh •TCE 05:49, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Mannimarco[edit]

Hey rpeh! Just saw the newest batch of images and they look great - as usual! The Mannimarco one is a beaut, so I would like to ask; do you have a 4:3 version of that image - for the Janus Hassildor page? I could easily chop off his legs and make it 16:9 as well - but if you have any additional information to the sides, I think it would be best to keep him "full figure". --Krusty 17:42, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Your wish is my command! rpeh •TCE 17:46, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Are we sure that it's Thedret? In my game it's Thedrel so far as I can tell.--Ghurhak gro-DemrilYou would talk? 21:30, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

You may be reading the font wrong, it is most definitely Thedret. I even checked the CS. --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 22:01, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
It could be that it's different in the PS3 version also. Maybe Krusty can take a look at some point; I can't check right now because none of my characters is in a position to do so.--Ghurhak gro-DemrilYou would talk? 23:15, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
I wouldn't think so as the CS is the same CS for all of the game versions. --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 01:29, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
You can only get the CS for the PC version... Right? See OB_Talk:Open for a case where thinga definitely are different between versions.--Ghurhak gro-DemrilYou would talk? 07:26, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
Yup - it's only for the PC. It's definitely "Thedret", but the font can be very difficult to read at times: look at this stupid mistake from some idiot n00b.
And please can you change your signature back? It's policy that signatures should resemble the name of the account they represent, and your new one doesn't. If you want your account renamed, an admin can do that for you. rpeh •TCE 07:40, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

.js .css and Nx's Talkpage Coding?[edit]

Well I wanted to see what these are so I took a look at what Nx uses for .js and .css. Unfortunately I can't tell what any of it means. Not really a priority though since I seem to be getting along fine without them; I'm just curious. I also took a look at his talk page to see what he does that puts the TOC in a "box". I didn't get what most of that meant either and although I could copy and paste it I'd like to know what it is so that I can change it at some point.--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 22:22, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

If you take a look at UESPWiki:Javascript, that'll give you a basic explanation of how the .js page works. There's less need for modifying the .css page, I think. Mostly that just affects formatting and layout of various items on-site. There's a fairly good outline of it all on Wikipedia. Once you understand that, the formatting at Nx's page will make at least a bit more sense. I use w3schools.com whenever I need CSS help, then just Google anything I don't find there. w3schools only documents up to CSS 2, though, so for the various styles on Nx's page (which are CSS 3), so you'll have to go elsewhere.
