Welcome![edit]

Hello Shuryard! Welcome to UESPWiki. It's always good to have new members. If you would like to help improve any of our pages, you may want to take a look at the following links:

If you, on the other hand, would like to spice up your userpage, take a look at this link:

 • Userboxes: near complete list of userboxes, including a guide to make your own

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games in the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun! --Kitkat TalkContribE-mail 20:41, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Images[edit]

Thanks for contributing images to the wiki, however I've noticed that your images are way bright and slightly washed out. I'd recommend that you see if you can reduce your contrast. If you have any questions feel free to reply here on find me on my talk page. Thuraya Salaris 19:49, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your concern. My main intent behind the images is the face of the NPC. While I also try not to overdo the lighting of the background. Let me try and see what you mean. Do you have specific concerns about this one: Arngeir? How about those: Faryl or Valga, or Tekla for example? --Shuryard 20:10, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
I like your images, Drelas seems to have come out abit bright. It is not bad however and still far better than images I ever add! — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 20:29, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, Kimi ;-) --Shuryard 21:55, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
The images that I noticed where Arngeir, Alfarinn, Drelas, and Atheron. The first three I've listed look to me like they have had their contrast raised through the roof and as such have lost most of their color and are very bright. The last one is just a bit bright for some other reason along with magelight distorting the color a bit too much. Thuraya Salaris 20:36, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
Is this one better? -- Drelas -- Is this a good face lighting for a Dunmer? --Shuryard 21:03, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
That is worse actually, none of the colors are natural at all. Take a look at the original background colors on that images history it looks nothing like the ones you've uploaded. Are you adjusting the image in an editor or taking it right out of the game? Thuraya Salaris 21:09, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
I am using Candlelight spell in the game, otherwise the face is not seen. --Shuryard 21:28, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
A lot of the time your best bet is to use the console to get them to look into the sun and change the time so that the lighting is best. You can open console with tilde and then click on the NPC and type tc this will let you move them around. Once you've got them in the right spot you can then type tai this will turn off their AI so that you can take the screen shot. Additionally try casting your spell a bit farther away and using fw 81a to set clear weather conditions. Thuraya Salaris 21:36, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I am using console commands... Thanks, I'll try and see what I can do about my lighting. --Shuryard 21:55, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Question on image (copied for reference)[edit]

~~ Copied for my reference from the talk page of Thuraya Salaris ~~ --Shuryard (talk) 23:47, 17 February 2014 (GMT)

Hey! I got back to taking another shot of Drelas and no matter what I do his dagger is not shown properly, his robe "swallowing" a piece of it. What do you think would be the best solution here: to remove a dagger from his inventory through the console or to cut the shot so that only top of the dagger is seen, but that way his hands are not in the shot? I don't like either... Thanks. --Shuryard 23:54, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

I've never removed items that are worn by the NPC. I've found that by using the tc console command you can usually get an acceptable shot by moving them around a bit. I'd not worry about this sort of thing too much as it is a part of the game that everyone experiences and there is really no need to compensate for it because of this. Additionally, you should always aim to get a full body shot or at least the majority of it. Thuraya Salaris 23:59, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
What do you think now: Drelas? --Shuryard 00:15, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
It's lightyears better than the other ones! It's a tad bit dark but nothing that some quick photoshop work or a correctly placed magelight would not fix. Overall this is the sort of image that I aim for when I upload. Thuraya Salaris 00:21, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, now I know what you mean - natural light is much better. How do I mark not the whole page, but just the two previous images for deletion? --Shuryard 00:28, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
You're welcome! I'm glad to have been able to help. You don't need to mark anything for delete. Every image has its own modification log just like the articles have their change history saved. Thuraya Salaris 00:32, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Long Lost Lore[edit]

Can you reupload your Long Lost Lore image in jpg per the guidelines, thanks. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 20:15, 2 May 2014 (GMT)

Seducer[edit]

I had to copy the page rather than move, as the history would not all be pertinent to the new page. In future if you create a page with the name Shuryard/Sandbox/Pagewanted then it can be moved and all your edits kept in the history. I also removed some information that applies to all sets and is redundant. Keep up the good work. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:48, 29 May 2014 (GMT)

Thank you very much for detailed explanations! ~ Shuryard (talk) 04:00, 30 May 2014 (GMT)

Some advice[edit]

Just so you don't get headlong into something without tweaking this, but things should always be written in the present tense in the Online namespace, and you should always use the second person when referring to the player. So instead of "The player found a pony." you would write "You can find a pony." Hopefully that makes sense! Very good work on the Mages Guildhall pages by the way! Jeancey (talk) 01:22, 28 December 2014 (GMT)

The third-person view comes from this part of the Style Guide... Present tense it is :) Thanks! - Shuryard (talk) 01:47, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
That should probably be revised slightly. Third person is only used in lore. Everywhere else we use second person. Jeancey (talk) 02:30, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
That makes sense... I hear you ;) - Shuryard (talk) 02:35, 28 December 2014 (GMT)

Star-Gazers[edit]

In regards to this edit, you added the Star-Gazers' Observatory under the Fighters/Mages Guild section. Directly below this is an independent section for the Star-Gazers. Since I don't play ESO and I don't want to just outright revert it without being sure, does this observatory have some other guildhall? Keep up the great work! •WoahBro►talk 06:46, 6 January 2015 (GMT)

Nevermind, it looks like Enodoc added that there are Mages/Fighters Guilds in the Star-Gazers Observatory :) •WoahBro►talk 14:50, 6 January 2015 (GMT)
Yes, Star-Gazers is a faction. There are three different factions in this building. Since the table on the page is sorted by factions (MG and FG together), the Observatory has two entries. Hope it makes sense. Thanks! - Shuryard (talk) 15:03, 6 January 2015 (GMT)

Cookie[edit]

Choco chip cookie.png
You have been given a cookie!

Your dedication and diligence to the wiki has not gone unnoticed. A user has seen the progress you've made, and has given you a cookie because of it. Good work! The user had the following to say:

I've never given a cookie before, because I don't care for devaluing them by handing them out to everyone. When someone deserves one, people usually grant them before they're overdue. In your case though, I think you're quite overdue. You've made a lot of contributions to the online namespace for quite a while now (that being just your recent work), and from what I can tell, they were all legitimate. So I think it's fair your first cookie should be my first cookie, which I had saved for a worthy occasion. ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 21:30, 5 February 2015 (GMT)
Since I discovered this wiki, it became a special, inseparable from the ES universe, place for me. It took me some time before I even considered the thought of making a small edit. And then some more before I could sum up the courage to create a page! :) So, the fact that I've been given a cookie, and even more - such a special one, feels like an honor award to me. Thank you! ~ Shuryard (talk) 01:23, 6 February 2015 (GMT)
Speaking of which, I've been meaning to ask for a while, but I think you are a perfect candidate for autopatroller status, if you are interested. It would mean us patrolling times wouldn't have to patrol your massive amazing edits :) What do you think? Jeancey (talk) 02:17, 6 February 2015 (GMT)
I would gladly accept if you'll have me! ~ Shuryard (talk) 02:37, 6 February 2015 (GMT)

Moving images[edit]

You probably just forgot, but you've got to make sure images (or any page for that matter) are not still linked somewhere after having moved them and before putting them up for deletion ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 23:34, 8 February 2015 (GMT)

Thank you for taking care of it! I was wondering what that nagging feeling was about, like I forgot something ;) ~ Shuryard (talk) 23:37, 8 February 2015 (GMT)

Thank You[edit]

Hey Shuryard, thank you for your message! :) I don't think that your maintenance edits after the user's uploads were "crooked". You wrote "Proper naming" and "please see Help:Images" in the edit summaries, and you added a welcome message to the user's talk page with all necessary links to the wiki's standards and the mentor program. We now have a discussion with the user that hopefully will turn out to be productive, but generally I believe that correcting inexperienced user's edits in a polite manner, giving them links to our guidelines and then answering questions they may have after our edits will in most cases be sufficient. If we really tried to explain all our fixes/reversions individually at length (and even if we do, we sometimes get reactions like this), we'd probably not have much time left for our own contributions ... --Holomay (talk) 11:16, 4 March 2015 (GMT)

When the user expressed his unhappiness about the image being moved in reply to your advice, I felt responsible. But you're right, there is always help section and talk pages for questions. All that can be done is to be polite and patient, as Kitkat was with my first edits back in the day :) Thank you, Holomay! I really appreciate your reply!   ~ Shuryard (talk) 20:07, 4 March 2015 (GMT)

Sets in Update 6[edit]

Hey there, I thought I'd just mention that there are some changes to a number of sets in Update 6. Rather than marking specific set pages for updating, since you're working on the sets anyway, I thought I'd just direct you to the relevant section of the Patch Notes. --Enodoc (talk) 11:22, 4 March 2015 (GMT)

Great, thanks! It will help a lot while I am browsing guild trader markets, trying to figure out what's changed :)   ~ Shuryard (talk) 20:07, 4 March 2015 (GMT)

Userpatroller[edit]

In relation to this, becoming a userpatroller doesn't require a community vote. You already meet the qualifications, so just post your name to that page and I'd be happy to give you the keys. :D —Legoless (talk) 20:38, 12 March 2015 (GMT)

Right :) Thank you, I did.   ~ Shuryard (talk) 20:53, 12 March 2015 (GMT)
Done. —Legoless (talk) 21:54, 12 March 2015 (GMT)

() Congratulations! You will now see red exclamation marks next to unpatrolled userspace edits (which shouldn't be many, since normal patrollers also patrol these). There's not much to it, since user page edits, apart from spamming or personal attacks and the like, are good to go, and user talk pages may only require adding unsigned tags etc. Regarding your patroller nomination, protocol indicates that when a withdrawal takes places after votes have been cast, you'd have to wait for three months in order to be eligible for nomination again. However, I think that'd be silly in this case, considering you're competent and nobody would seem to outright oppose your nomination, I think the admins should discuss this so that can be bypassed. In such case, you can put up another nomination once you feel comfortable. Off the record, there's no reason to be uncomfortable as I said on your nomination, you'll just have access to tools that can help us out, but you don't really have to once you do ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 00:51, 13 March 2015 (GMT)

I've already tried my new tools today. Those few edits I've patrolled were straightforward, but I tried to imagine being a full-fledged patroller, whoa! It is a responsibility to decide what stays and what needs changing... Takes practice, as any skill. So, I will practice. Thank you, Dwarfmp, for your support and for helping me to find my pace.   ~ Shuryard (talk) 02:39, 13 March 2015 (GMT)

About your nomination...[edit]

I didn't get a chance to put my thoughts in on your patroller nomination, but I would like to share them with you regardless.

Out of all the nominations I've seen, I'd say yours was the toughest to call. Not because of doubts over your qualifications (you're qualified), but because I wasn't sure if it was what you really wanted. If you had pursued the nomination, I would have ended up supporting it, but at the same time, it's important to have the right mindset about being a patroller. When it comes right down to it, being a patroller isn't really a symbol of status, it's just a type of editor that focuses on reviewing contributions rather than adding them. Not that you can't do both, but the amount of content patrollers tend to add to pages is significantly less than normal users, so patrolling tends to take up the bulk of your time on the wiki.

There's no shame in withdrawing or declining a nomination if you don't feel ready, and in fact I think it's admirable that you would do so. Patroller status isn't the kind of thing that should be rushed, even when qualifications are met. It's a decision that you should make for yourself, not for the wiki. Personally, I was an active editor for about 3 years before becoming a patroller (and I even declined my first nomination). Even though I probably could have sought a nomination sooner (and succeeded), when I made the decision to seek patroller status, I did it because it would help me achieve what I wanted to in terms of my wiki contributions, not because I felt I was expected to. I'm glad that you're apparently taking the same approach, and I'd like you to know that when you do finally feel comfortable accepting a nomination, you'll have my support. Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 00:18, 13 March 2015 (GMT)

I was torn... I haven't even imagined being promoted to a patroller! Minor Edits did such a nice job nominating me, with humor and sincerity... I really love this site and ever since I took the liberty of contributing on a regular basis, it feels like there isn't enough hours in a day to add everything that needs to be added. I also want to learn more about templates... And an idea of taking some of the patrolling burden off of the patrollers' shoulders is so tempting... So, thank you, Thuum, for sharing your thoughts, as it helps me to stay focused on my intentions for now and stick to my own pace.   ~ Shuryard (talk) 02:39, 13 March 2015 (GMT)

Thanks[edit]

Hello Shuryard thanks for your welcome message--Sweet Antichrist (talk) 18:32, 15 March 2015 (GMT)

Morrowind Categories[edit]

Hey! While it is true that changing it from a number to the actual name will fix the category, the real issue is a caching one. Once one of the main pages gets edited it takes a little while for all the faction members to re-update, which is why we occasionally see those category issues. They'll go away on their own, given time. Jeancey (talk) 16:54, 16 March 2015 (GMT)

So, those "numbered" categories, do they occur every time one of the main pages gets edited? Because right now 40 hirelings, for instance, do not show in the proper category. And then they get sorted out after a while, but only until the next edit? If so, perhaps, it would make sense to fix them once and for all? Or I don't get something?   ~Shuryard (talk) 17:11, 16 March 2015 (GMT)
It takes just as long to fix as when someone edits a quest page and the description on other pages disappears. I've considered fixing it for good, but we are actually talking about 500 or so pages, maybe more (since we'd be fixing all factions, in Morrowind, Bloodmoon, Tribunal and TR3 namespaces). Jeancey (talk) 19:30, 16 March 2015 (GMT)
It seems that only redirects produce this effect... Between the two of us, 250 pages each is not that bad :) But if you are not up to it, I will keep an eye on those categories and fix the pages which appear to "wander" at the moment.   ~Shuryard (talk) 22:36, 16 March 2015 (GMT)

New book collections[edit]

I noticed that you have been adding the new patch 1.6 books to collections, but last I checked, they weren't in collections in game. Are they now in collections, or are you just adding them to collections that make sense based on the book? Jeancey (talk) 22:21, 17 March 2015 (GMT)

Ha! It was bothering me in the back of my mind, that those collections should be in the game somewhere, but when I checked once or twice, I could not find them on my character. I was meaning to ask, but always postponed it for some reason :) Now I got it. "Eidetic Memory", Shalidor, duh! Only one of my characters finished the quest line :) Sorry! I'll go through each note I added and fix this.   ~Shuryard (talk) 22:38, 17 March 2015 (GMT)

Generic NPCs[edit]

I would suggest simply editing the template to provide for a Generic=1 parameter which will add the NPC page to the category. We generally discourage adding pages directly to categories. If something needed to change in the future, it is easier to change the one template than every single generic NPC page. Jeancey (talk) 14:48, 24 March 2015 (GMT)

I agree, adding categories manually to so many pages is not a good idea. The Online:Guild Blade page was one example of how a generic NPC page can look like, since there is no standard for now. I asked for help on the CP page, but I will also try to figure out how to make this addition to the existing template. Or, perhaps, we should consider an alternate template for these NPCs. Maybe, something like Non-Relevant NPC.   ~Shuryard (talk) 18:33, 25 March 2015 (GMT)

Fishystick from a Gentleman Mudcrab[edit]

You have been given a Fishy Stick!

Your dedication and diligence to the wiki has not gone unnoticed. A user has seen the progress you've made, and has given you a Fishy Stick because of it. Good work! The user had the following to say:

Thankyou for your contribution to my uploaded photos earlier on. I only just figured out how to do this and looking at your contributions to the wiki, I thought it necessary to award you a fishy stick hand crafted by the finest Gentleman Mudcrab chefs. P.P.S-:) --Dave the nord (talk) 10:03, 4 April 2015 (GMT)
It depends on what one wants to achieve :) One can use images as thumbs, for instance:

Another thing, for the user box, one could fix the size of the image:
.
Also, one can take a look at other users pages and copy something from them :) I hope this helps.   ~Shuryard (talk) 10:13, 4 April 2015 (GMT)
Thank you greatly once again! you have done my GentlemanMudcrabs a great service once again, so I hereby promote you to Grand Marquess of Gentleman Mudcrabs in this world. Alongside this honour, I gift you this blade, more powerful and keen than any daedric weapon or artifact, and enchanted with the call of Gentleman Mudcrabs, so in times of peril, they will swoop in and destroy your foes. This Blade, forged by the great Mudcrab smiths is known in the common (non-Gentleman Mudcrab) tongue as Mudcrabsbane. Wield it with great honour Grand Marquess. Yours as Crabbily as ever--Dave the nord (talk) 10:28, 4 April 2015 (GMT)

Image Captions[edit]

Hello once again Shuryard! Looking at other pages on the wiki, I noticed that near all of them have Image captions in that little surrounding box, and I know this probably sounds like a stupid question, but how do you do that? From copy and pasting I can't get it and it would be a tremendous help if you let me know at any point. Sorry for being a pain and constantly asking questions, but you seem like you know what you're doing. Yours Crabbily --Dave the nord (talk) 09:45, 5 April 2015 (GMT)

It depends on the page. For instance, look at the code of the Online:Golden Saint page by hitting 'Edit'. See, how the image file is used with parameters divided by "pipes", '|': thumb to make it the right size and create that surrounding box, right for the alignment and A Golden Saint is the text itself. On NPCs' pages the template Online NPC Summary takes care of it, you just fill out the fields. Click 'Edit' on Online:Fatahala page, for instance.
And Dave, please read through the Help:Images page, as there are naming conventions for uploaded images. Read it first and then ask more questions if something is unclear :)   ~Shuryard (talk) 12:35, 5 April 2015 (GMT)
Thank you! This works perfectly. Time for a Gentleman Mudcrab Promotion Methinks ;-) --Dave the nord (talk) 14:50, 5 April 2015 (GMT)
P.S-Sorry for being a nag. I really appreciate the help! --Dave the nord (talk) 14:50, 5 April 2015 (GMT)

Formatting[edit]

Heya Shuryard! Good work so far with the user patrolling! You've really helped cut down the unpatrolled edits! One piece of advice I have is in regards to formatting, this edit in particular. Simply removing unnecessary space on another users' talk page is kind of pointless, which we try to avoid pointless edits. If you had a reply to make to a post, then removing the space for indenting's sake is okay since it makes tracking the conversation easier. In the case I listed however, there's just no point to it. This is definitely not a major issue by any means! Just something to point out to help your editing :) •WoahBro►talk 04:26, 13 April 2015 (GMT)

Hey WoahBro! I know it can look pointless from the maintenance point of view. However, the intention behind it was to point out the importance of the correct talk pages formatting to a new user. I believe it is easier to teach people do stuff in accordance with our conventions from the beginning than to try and break an incorrect habit later on. I hope my "teachery" attempts will pay off... :)   ~Shuryard (talk) 11:47, 13 April 2015 (GMT)

Duplicate Icons[edit]

So there are a couple of icons for stolen items that are used elsewhere, namely ON-icon-quest-Book 02.png, File:ON-icon-stolen-Letter.png and ON-icon-stolen-Map.png all of which are book icons. I don't really think they need to be duplicated, and I think that we can simply use the book icons in those cases and deleting the duplicate stolen item icon. What do you think? Jeancey (talk) 20:27, 2 May 2015 (GMT)

I was thinking about that and decided that since it's actually not that many duplicates, but the Online:Contraband page is so big, it would be more convenient if all of them belong to one category and st parameter is used consistently in the st template. What do you think?  ~Shuryard (talk) 20:36, 2 May 2015 (GMT)
I'm not sure. There are actually quite a few, but most can probably be moved to using the stolen image (there are 5-10 that are currently used for achievements, drinks, that sort of thing). I do think that the book icons need to stay, since they are used a hundred or so times between them. I've been going through and deleting unused icons which are duplicates of the stolen ones, but I've left the used icons. Jeancey (talk) 20:38, 2 May 2015 (GMT)
It seems like simply creating a redirect would allow the icon template to continue to work. For example, a would still display File:ON-icon-stolen-Wraps.png if a redirect to that image was created at File:ON-icon-armor-Wraps.png. —Legoless (talk) 20:48, 2 May 2015 (GMT)
Ok, I take it that redirects are preferred over duplicates. Another thing then. What about icons that look extremely similar, but not duplicates, e.g., File:ON-icon-food-Fondue.png and File:ON-icon-food-Fondue.png?  ~Shuryard (talk) 21:55, 2 May 2015 (GMT)
They are the same. They have some slight differences that means the software isn't detecting it as a duplicate, but they are the same. Likely the stolen item one is just a newer icon. Treat those the same as the ones that are detected as duplicates by the software. Jeancey (talk) 21:58, 2 May 2015 (GMT)

() In that case, I will need you, guys, to delete the following files, so that I can create redirects:

 ~Shuryard (talk) 22:41, 2 May 2015 (GMT)

Yes☑ Done. Now we probably need to do similar cleaning in Category:Online-Icons-Food and Category:Online-Icons-Drink :)  ~Shuryard (talk) 23:45, 2 May 2015 (GMT)

Abouts for Disambiguated Pages[edit]

Hey! The about hatnote is really only needed if a page is the main destination for the pagename. So, let's say Pagename is the main page, but Pagename (npc) is a separate page. Pagename would get an about message directing people to Pagename (npc), but Pagename (npc) gets nothing. Put another way, People who end up on Eambar (Dune) aren't going to think, hey, is this Eambar in Phaer? They realize that this is the one in Dune. However, people who go to The Faceless, for example, might actually be looking for the note The Faceless, thus, The Faceless gets an about hatnote. Hopefully that makes sense. Jeancey (talk) 17:22, 6 May 2015 (GMT)

It does, thanks! Then I'll fix those that are not in alignment with this logic.  ~Shuryard (talk) 17:24, 6 May 2015 (GMT)

How do I?[edit]

I have found a consistent location of Lore:Khajiiti Honorifics in Online. It is in the Mistral, within the Chancery. All the other books I have come across have had the names "Online:Title", I do not know how to handle "Lore:Title". Thanks. --Rhynchelma (talk) 14:43, 8 May 2015 (GMT)

Lore books are not game-specific, they do not have locations. I believe, this is what you are looking for: Online:Khajiiti Honorifics.  ~Shuryard (talk) 14:51, 8 May 2015 (GMT)
Hmm, I just did not notice that. Thanks. --Rhynchelma (talk) 14:52, 8 May 2015 (GMT)
No problem. Also, on each book page in the Lore space there is an infobox, which lists all the games that have this book. If you click on the game link there, it will take you to the game-specific copy of this book.  ~Shuryard (talk) 15:02, 8 May 2015 (GMT)

Crafting Requirements[edit]

I haven't tested Provisioning yet, but it's possible that you had to craft a Level 40 item because you are currently unable to get to the zone where you would deliver an item of the "intended" level. Six ranks of Recipe Improvement should match up perfectly with six different versions of the Provisioner's Crate reward. Where did you deliver the Level 40 stuff to? On a related note, again tested with Alchemy and Enchanting rather than Provisioning, the Inspiration reward seems to be dependent on the item you had to craft, while the gold reward is dependent on character level. --Enodoc (talk) 19:08, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

I deliver provisioning goods to Velyn Harbor in Malabal Tor. Since rank 5 of RI deals with rank Veteran1 recipes and this char is not done with the Main Quest yet (to get to Cadwell's silver), it is possible that this is the reason why the requirement is as high as lvl 40... But why not 45, at least once in a while? I'm not sure, I guess it needs further investigation.  ~Shuryard (talk) 19:58, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
I found an answer to this on the ESO Forums. It's mostly based on Recipe Improvement, but with a restriction based on level. So at Recipe 6 you would be delivering in Craglorn, but can't if you're not VR1. At Recipe 5, you would be delivering in Coldharbour, but can't if you haven't done something relevant (probably The Weight of Three Crowns). --Enodoc (talk) 08:34, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
Thank you! Assuming parallels between six ranks of Alchemy and those of Provisioning, it makes sense.  ~Shuryard (talk) 14:18, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Blocker[edit]

Hope you don't mind that I've given you blocker rights. You've been dealing with the current bot wave a lot, so hopefully this will prevent situations like RudolfTilton065 in future. Make sure you acquaint yourself with the blocking policies and remember to post here if you make use of the rights! —Legoless (talk) 18:05, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

No, I don't. I felt a bit helpless watching that bot doing its dirty job today. Now I am armed! :-D Thanks!  ~Shuryard (talk) 18:10, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Why?[edit]

On the page about the [1]- I added the following text which I found helpful in game "In Console (PC) "Wedding Ceremony" has an ID of 7404E - entering a SetStage 7404E 100 can trigger a completion of the wedding ceremony if your guests are assembled and your fiance' is present but the priest is just standing there and when you try to speak to him get the error "This person is busy". Entering the SetStage command completes the ceremony and triggers the next step- to speak to your new spouse at the reception, decide on a place to live, etc." -- if there is a better place to put this information I am open to suggestions. But I tried to follow your pages in trying to marry a follower and none of the information worked-- this clip I posted is what worked for me. I simply wanted to share the information and make it available for the benefit of others. Nyrvachan (talk) 21:32, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

The information you added is there, I just converted it into the Bug format.  ~Shuryard (talk) 21:36, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

Punctuation?[edit]

I've just been following the standard set by other pages, particularly FAs. I know it's not grammatically correct to have a colon instead of a comma, but I gave up on the wiki's grammar rules having any rhyme or reason a long time ago. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 14:34, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

AFAIK the colons should be there if the sentence doesn't flow into the quotation. So "He said the following:" is correct, but it should be "He says,". A lot of pages mess this up, including FAs, but it's not really a big deal. —Legoless (talk) 14:44, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
I had an intense crash course on wiki guidelines and English grammar when I started to contribute regularly last December :-D My teachers taught me to use comma for regular quotes - this is where I'm coming from. And I like it when things are consistent, it makes me feel safer :P  ~Shuryard (talk) 15:40, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

New Template[edit]

I really liked the look of the template when I saw it in your sandbox. Could you add a visual example to the Doc page for the template? Thanks! Also, what do you think about adding some color to the box based on the profession that the crafting mat is connected to? Jeancey (talk) 17:43, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Sure, I'll add an example. What colors would we use for the professions? I don't recall any specific colors being associated with them in-game.  ~Shuryard (talk) 17:55, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Quibble[edit]

Hi. I disagree with your reversion of my edit to Lore:Confessions Of A Khajiit Fur Trader, so I've made my case on that article's discussion page. I hope to get your input there.

Please feel free to delete this message if you like. There's no need to keep it on your talk page permanently. 99.36.122.114 18:37, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for letting me know. I replied on the discussion page.  ~Shuryard (talk) 19:15, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Crafting Materials[edit]

Regarding this edit, would it not be better to use the name of the refined material for the main article on the topic, like we have already for things like Cotton (as opposed to Raw Cotton) and Leather (as opposed to leather scraps), and have the ores as redirects? This would also be more in-line with the use of Maple over Sanded or Rough Maple. --Enodoc (talk) 20:02, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

The names I use are node names. For instance, the player sees the Jute plant and here is the corresponding page with the description, "Plant", and the plant picture. The same is true for ores and logs. Now, hides are a bit different, but it seems logical to use refined names for them. How does this sound?  ~Shuryard (talk) 20:26, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
Ah right, that's fair, I guess that logic makes sense. However, if I was looking for how to create steel weapons, I would look for a page about the material Steel, not the node High Iron Ore. One way or the other I think a redirect needs to exist, whether it be Ore to Material or Material to Ore, but since the page will be including every stage of each material's refining process, I think the name of the material itself would make a more useful primary page. --Enodoc (talk) 20:40, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
Redirects are needed, I agree. However, the High Iron Ore page, for instance, is about ore nodes. It says "ore" on the page, it has node's picture (which is bigger than rough and refined material icons) and describes how the nodes look, where they can be found and what materials can be obtained from them. We surely can re-do the pages to say "Steel is a material which is obtained from... ", but there is no "steel" in the game, it's either steel ingots or steel armor/weapons. So, isn't Material to Ore is a better way for redirects? Also, if users look for ways to create steel gear, they probably go to the Steel Armor and Steel Weapons articles first and I plan to add links to ore pages on armor and weapons articles as well.  ~Shuryard (talk) 20:56, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
OK cool. I admit to not having read the actual pages, and was assuming that they were primarily going to be about the crafting materials themselves rather than the nodes they come from, like the equivalent Skyrim pages on Iron and Steel (which are also not physically in-game by name). --Enodoc (talk) 21:20, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

ESO Crafting Mat Summary template[edit]

Hi Shuryard. I was trying to create Kreshweed when I noticed that the template itself has an extra zone for the tier 6 (kresh, birch, calcinium) nodes. My DC vet sees tier 6 stuff in Khenarthi's Roost, Auridon and Grahtwood, but ironweed, galatite and ash starting in Greenshade. I'm wary of messing up the template, as I do tend to botch all but the simplest code, but could you check this in-game as well if you can? —likelolwhat talk lulzy to me 00:00, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Hey! Thanks for checking it out. I will run my EP veteran through Rivenspire and see if I can find it.  ~Shuryard (talk) 02:03, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
Okay, here are my findings. The following is true for ores, wood and plants. It looks like tier 6 mats cannot be found in VR3 zones. Tier 7 mats are in zones VR3, VR4, VR5. I'm not able to investigate zones VR6-VR10 yet, so for now locations' list for tier 7 and 8 mats is my calculated guess.
Now, hides (or rather animals) do not follow these locational patterns and need more investigation and further tweaks to ESO Crafting Mat Summary. I am going to try and figure out their locations in the next couple of days.  ~Shuryard (talk) 12:18, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Unspeedy[edit]

Just to explain why I "unspeedied" the images, my interpretation of the Deletion Policy is that in order for an image to be redundant, it has to be pretty much identical to the original, just better quality. That's not clearly spelled out in the policy, though, so it's definitely open to debate. Robin Hood  (talk) 05:55, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

I would say they do qualify for speed by your definition: File:Screenshot 20150709 145127.png and File:ON-creature-Lord Brol.jpg, don't they? Also, when I "proded" another .png file, File:ON-place-Bonesnap Ruins.png, for the same reason, it was deleted with the comment "It is actually a speed". So, I am now officially confused :)  ~Shuryard (talk) 15:23, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
Well, I'm as confused as you are, so I brought it up on AN. Robin Hood  (talk) 02:10, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
Okay, thanks :)  ~Shuryard (talk) 02:20, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

E-mail[edit]

Just to let you know, I got your e-mail the other day, but only noticed it after it was too late. I tried to reply by e-mail, but it didn't go through for some reason, so I'm replying here instead. Thanks for the offer, though, even if I only read it after doing the bot job. :) Robin Hood  (talk) 03:12, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

That's fine, I figured you enjoy tinkering :) And thank you for replying.  ~Shuryard (talk) 05:52, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

New Contraband item icons[edit]

Hey Shurgard! Since I saw your name popping up at the Contraband image icon category, I'd like to ask about the stolen item icons that are missing. These were probably added in Orsinium dlc. I have several new contraband items, out of which quite some do not have uploaded icons yet :)

Do you extract the icons using a program of some sorts? I'd do it myself, but UESP wiki is new for me, and editing the Contraband items with missing info is the only thing I've done here so far. Also, I know from previous experience that sometimes the colors and sizes of such files are different if they come from different users, so that's why I wouldn't mind if an experienced user adds these icons, for the sake of consistency.

Any advice you have is welcome, thanks :) Tib (talk) 15:56, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

You can download the extracted icons here, or extract them yourself with this tool. —Legoless (talk) 19:15, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Hey Tib! Welcome to the wiki! While browsing through the extracted icons within the archive Legoless pointed out, you can also use Mined Items Database to check for the exact icon location. For instance, you want to know in what folder in that archive you find the icon for the Orsinium Crest Orichalc Clippers. So, you type "Orsinium Crest Orichalc Clippers" (with quotation marks to filter off the exact item) in the search window, click on "View Item", click on the item name. At the bottom of the page you will see the icon location: /esoui/art/icons/quest_thumbscrews_001.dds. That means the icon's file name is thumbscrews_001.dds and it is located in the quest folder in the archive.  ~Shuryard (talk) 22:56, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
