Okay, so I'm playing Arena on a Macbook. I originally downloaded the game from Bethesda's site. However, the gameplay was so painfully slow that I had to download a more Mac-friendly version (that still uses DOSBox, mind you) from another site. On THAT version, the gameplay is perfectly fine except for when I'm fighting a guard or some other enemy. We exchange a few hits (if any at all), and then the whole game shuts down and DOSBox closes.
Does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong here?

I'm using melee weapons (i.e. a sword), if that's what you're asking. Why?

EDIT: I figured out the glitch; My weapon was unequipped, yet it showed up in first-person view as if it WERE equipped. I equipped a weapon, and the game stopped crashing when I fought enemies. What a relief!

It's weird that the game showed the weapon as though it were equipped when it wasn't. On the PC version, if you don't have a weapon equipped, you'll see your fists when you're in attack mode. I wonder if that glitch is just in the Mac version?

There's only version of Arena, and that's on DOS. And I think it's because I transferred the save files from the Bethesda site's download to the one I got from the other site.

I was confused by the reference to "a more Mac-friendly version." I mean, what's that, just differences in the config settings for DOSBox, or a different build of the game itself?

Oh, heck, who am I fooling? I was just confused, period!
