This thread is for any discussion about Oblivion that doesn't quite fit in anywhere else. Here you can go offtopic as long as it still relates to Oblivion.

What's with the reinforced doors in Skingrad? When I first played the game, I thought the paranoia quest referred to the whole town and not just Glarthir, but after a while I saw that wasn't true. Is it just cosmetic? Was there some cut feature that didn't quite get fully erased?

Like the Count goes crazy, infects the whole castle staff, and everyone has to barricade themselves inside?

I've been trying to make a spell that combines a damaging effect with a paralyzing effect to make statues out of the things I kill with it, but haven't had much success. Anybody know which type of damage I should use and which order the effects would go in?

I haven't played the game in ages since I have to unplug a screen because it doesn't work with dual screens. And I can't really bothered to do that. Not with the amount of games I'm playing in the mean time.

Skingrad is just generally more regal looking. The guards are the only ones with steel stuff. And the count wouldn't go on a rampage, He's awesome.
I haven't played in a while either.

Are you shooting for a one-shot one-kill scenario?

Because you could always do a weakness to magicka spell first which will increase its damage and Paralyze's duration
    Example:
    Spell1: Weakness to magic 50%
Spell2: 50 frost damage over 6 seconds and Paralyze for 6 seconds
Cast Spell1 then Spell2 and the effect will be...
75 frost damage over 6 seconds and Paralyze for 9 seconds

Thanks, I'll try that. Oh and does it matter which effect of the spell goes first? I read on the wiki that the effects happen in a set order, not all at once.

Weakness effects only affect the damage of spells cast after weakness has been cast (so combining weakness and damage effects in one spell will require you to cast it again for it to affect the damage).

I suggest looking at these pages for more details: Spell Making~Effective Custom Spells and Weakness to Magic

Well, tried a spell like the one Chaos mentioned, and it killed the NPC, but did not make it into a statue when he died....Tried it again on a dog I found, didn't work with that either.

Here's the exact characteristics of the spells:
Spell1: Weakness to magic 100% for 6 seconds.
Spell2: 50 Frost damage over 6 seconds and Paralyze for 4 seconds.

Casting spell2 directly after spell1 has the following results:
100 frost damage over 6 seconds and Paralyze for 8 seconds.

According to the wiki, this should make a statue out of the killed NPC, but they still just flop to the ground.

Anything I'm doing wrong?

EDIT: I just read that apparently the NPC needs to have zero fatigue as well. I will try that...

DOUBLE EDIT: Well, knocking an NPC out with zero fatigue and then trying the above combination did not have the desired effect either... so it must be the spell.

Perhaps you should try this:
Spell1: Weakness to magic 100%
Spell2:Frost Damage 50 pts for 6 secs, Damage Fatigue 150/200 pts and Paralyze for 4 secs.

Having it all in the same spell would likely do the trick. Another thought:
Spell1: Same as above
Spell2: Frost Damage 50 pts for 6 secs, Damage Fatigue 250 pts
Spell3: Paralyze for 6 secs

This way the fatigue will run out before they die. I can't test it right now though, neither did I put much thought into calculating so the values may need adjustment.

Will try that later today, although the last spell costed almost all my magic to cast, so I'm not sure if I'll have enough magic to cast the new one. But I do also have 10 bottles of fortify magicka potion 50 points each, so I think I'm covered.

You could also rapidly consume instant effect restore Magicka potions.

Staff of Indarys or Thornblade? Which did you choose?

The blade as it looks nicer, and I never really was into staffs even then I would use the one you can buy in the Market District. But I used the blade only for decoration as I normally use Goldbrand.

Thornblade ~ I rarely ever use it though, mostly just a display piece

Chose the thornblade - what does the staff do?

Oh I know which I'm choosing, I've played many times before.

The Staff damages Strength and has Shock damage, the blade has a Disintegrate Armour effect.

The Staff is far better enchantment-wise, I was just woundering what people choose, as there is a strange stigma around staves and a huge tendency towards blades of any kind :P.

I find staves are generally bad for mages, and are actually better for warriors. for a mage, who already have plenty of spells, a staff just fills up his inventory. A dagger with a weakness enchant is better for a mage. For a warrior with their high strength a staff is another weapon in your arsenal.

Oblivion lags and crashes and glitches up every few minutes. Yet I still play it. :x

Shivering Isles (PC) just arrived in the mail today! Yay for me !

Should be fun to revisit the Isles, although I have played SI on PS3, but I think I'm more of a PC guy.

I didn't particularly like the shivering isles, I mean, it was ok, and the storyline was nice enough, but it seemed not to be as exciting as I thought it would be. Although I didn't explore it much.

Elytra give me the creeps :?
