Artifacts

I don't think we can be certain Nerevar's axe is an actual artifact. The axe only comes up twice (the first instance that I can find is debatable), and is never given a name. The first mention (the one that mentions the "named axe") is in Sermon 33: "So Vivec sent the Hortator to the heavens to shave Lie Rock asunder by the named axe." The second mention I could find is in Sermon 36, when he trades the axe for Keening.

I can't justify keeping the axe on this page when it's not important enough for Vivec to give it a real name. The term "named axe" is not capitalized as a proper noun the one time it comes up in Sermon 33, so I'm not inclined to believe that's something Vivec "called" Nerevar's axe. There's also the issue of whether or not the axe actually exists. Vivec's sermons are dubious in terms of historical accuracy, as Vivec is characterized as an all-knowing god-mentor to Nerevar. While I'm sure Vivec was wise beyond his years back in the days of the First Council, and Nerevar certainly looked to him for advice, I don't think God-Vivec literally told Nerevar to go fight a moon. That's part of the problem with the axe: is it a real weapon, or is it a fictional prop used to propel Nerevar's character development in the 36 Lessons? All we have are vague mentions of an axe that we don't know actually exists.

I've also moved the Ethos Knife to the notes. Nerevar's association with Keening is veiled in myth and kind of vague. I would remove it altogether were it not for the tasty niblet that claims Nerevar gave Shor a second death. I think Keening doesn't belong in a section about artifacts associated with Nerevar for reasons similar to why Muatra isn't listed under Lore:Molag Bal. It's not exactly "associated" with him. He carries it in Wulfharth and the Lesson 36, but it doesn't appear significant to him beyond using it once. I can see what put Keening on this page in the first place, but I don't feel like there's enough solid information to cement its place in its own section. Moon-and-Star and Trueflame are obvious picks, but Keening is a bit more wishy-washy as far as "artifacts associated with Nerevar" are concerned. -MolagBallet (talk) 03:24, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

The axe actually comes up in several sermons not just two, as for the name of the axe “So to quiet his mind the Hortator chose from the Fight Racks an axe. He named it and moved on to the first moon.” Nerevar named the axe himself and Vivec chooses to refrain from telling the name for one reason or the other this is where “named axe” comes in as in named by Nerevar, the name isn’t known to the reader but it’s certainly treated as a significant weapon to Nerevar by the sermons. As for the dubious nature of the sermons, that’s not really important here. We just need to document the information and let the readers decide if they think content from the sermons has any weight. Nerevar outlander source

What source points to nerevar being an outlander? Apart from the listed source being about as useless as anything, it appears to be misleading. Looking up the dialogue data for the "Nerevar" topic, the word outlander is used to describe the tribes invading Resadyn, not Nerevar himself.
If there is a source that confirms the line, it should be properly cited. If there isn't the line should be revised. ThomasTheWest (talk) 17:40, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

Maybe that line is referring to the Nerevarine being an outlander, and the person who added it got confused? In any case its been removed now, thank you for noting this. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 19:01, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
