Intro[edit]

This guide is an extract from a BethSoft thread where a user wanted to add Ren's hairs to the races in the Drow race mod.

Steps[edit]

Part I - making a dependent plugin[edit]

I think you're still a little lost...The ID things is confusing. I'd really rather skip it.

Method 3: minimal form ID changes, forget modifying the original plugin

1) Load the src mod and the Drow mod, which you've already done. Although, you may need to make sure that the Drow mod is loading after the src mod.

2) Choose one of the Drow race records, right-click and choose copy as override into new plugin. (Remember which race you chose or its form ID.)

3) Add the Ren's hair source mod as a master to the new plugin.

4) Change the form ID of the Drow race record in the new plugin to one of the Ren's race mod's form ID.

3) Drag the Ren's race's HNAM record over onto the duplicated Drow Race's.

5) Change the Drow Race's form ID back to its original form ID.

>> Now you have The Drow race with the Ren's race mods hairs. What's left is a dependency issue. Get to this point first, and let me know if this worked. The new plugin will be dependent upon the Ren's hair source mod and the drow race mod.

Edit: Let me try to create a [url="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26280669@N03/4227707484/sizes/l/"]screen shot[/url] to show you...

Part II removing the dependency[edit]

Removing the dependency means performing plugin deisolation.[1]

...Make a dependent plugin first. This way you avoid Form ID issues and changing the original mods. If you still want to make an independent mod or modify the original Drow race mod. I can walk you through that process after ward. Also, avoid opening plugins with dependencies in TESCS unless you esmify the ESP with, for example, Wrye Bash's esmify function.

Edit: Dependency fix (if the Form IDs don't conflict)

After you have the dependent plugin, load it up into TES4Edit. Note that TES4Edit load dependencies, so if you just select the newly created plugin the Drow race mod and the Ren src mod will be loaded as well. Anyway...

1) Load

2) Change the form IDs of the Ren's Hair files you used to have the same prefix as the Drow race mod. (This injects the records into the Drow race mod.) When prompted for the updated references, you only need to change those of the dependent plugin, the six or so duplicated Drow race records.

3) Now copy (as override) the records into the Drow race mod.

4) Drag the race records of the dependent plugin into the Drow race mod, overriding the original race records.

5) Save the Drow race mod (only) on exit. (The dependent mod and the Ren's hair source mod are no longer needed.)
