Confusing sentence[edit]

"Would that you visited us some time." I don't understand this sentence. It's as if some words were missing. Anyone who can provide an explanation? - ZuTheSkunk (talk) 22:27, 11 December 2014 (GMT)

It kind of makes sense. It's supposed to be an old fashioned hypothetical construction (translation: "if only you would visit some time"), but I believe it's missing the subjunctive tense. It should probably be "would that you would visit us some time", rather than past tense "visited". I don't really think a sic tag is needed though, since most English speakers accidentally substitute the subjunctive case with the past tense regularly. —Legoless (talk) 22:36, 11 December 2014 (GMT)
