Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Lora Avis has a task concerning the enforcement of the East Empire Company's monopoly on the trade in Dwemer goods. It appears that a professor at the College of Firewatch is in breach of that monopoly, having been selling Dwemer artifacts without authorization. Lora requests that you investigate the professor - one Odunia Hare. She suggests either searching the professor's home or by getting her to incriminate herself in her lecture room in the college building. You do not need to take both approaches - either works.

Odunia Hare's house is next to Firewatch's southern gate, and you'll have to breach the lock somehow. The evidence you need is in one of the crates on the first floor - Professor Hare's Coherer. Once you have it, speak to Odunia Hare in the college and accuse Odunia Hare.

Alternatively, you can approach Odunia Hare in her lecture room and ask to buy a Dwemer artifact, in your best not-a-cop voice. With 75+ disposition, she will agree to sell you one for 80 gold. You'll need to pay this to unlock the topic accuse Odunia Hare.

Either way, once you accuse her, Odunia will panic, and claim that the artifacts she's been selling are cheap replicas made by a pawnbroker rather than the real deal. You can insist on reporting her activities to the East Empire Company, or ask How can I be sure these are fakes? to obtain the location of an academic who can verify that what she has sold you is fake. If you pick this latter option, you can additionally insist that Odunia cover your travel costs to this location for 80 gold from the impoverished academic.

You can now return to Lora Avis to complete the quest - if you wish. Claiming that the artifacts she has been selling without evidence are forgeries will net you 150 gold, although Lora is skeptical. 150 gold also comes your way if you claim that the artifacts being sold were real, and Odunia Hare is additionally placed in jail.

If, however, you obtained a method of verifying the authenticity of Hare's artifacts from Hare, you can instead travel to Helnim to investigate. Find Barra'tho in the Imperial Archaelogical Society building and ask him about academic contraband. He'll confirm that the artifact is a fake - a shoddy one. You can return now to Lora Avis to relay this information, and receive 200 gold for your efforts.
