Bthalag-Zturamz is a lava-strewn ruin near Firewatch that is home to immense wealth and an unusual puzzle.

To reach this location, leave Firewatch by its southern gate and walk directly southeast. The first area of the ruin is the halls. Leveled Dwemer Centurions guard these tunnels. Beyond the occasional random loot within barrels, there is little treasure to divert you here.

A Chamber of Strange Crystals[edit]

The true puzzle lies in a room lined with six strange crystals in the far north of the complex. Here stands a statue with outstretched hands, as if waiting to be granted something. To begin this puzzle, you will need a specific Dwarven item held in the Treasure Chamber of Firewatch's castle, Ember Keep. This is Firewatch's crown jewel - the staff, Oathrung.

Once you have retrieved this item, return to the statue in the crystal chamber and activate it. You will be prompted to place Oathrung within the statue's hands. Do so.

Seven notes will play, emanating from each crystal in turn (each crystal also slightly lights up at the base when it plays its note). You will need to play the tune back in the order you heard it. You can activate the statue to replace the staff and here the tune again.

Once you replay the tune correctly (the exact order is listed at the end of this page), the metal grille in the center of the chamber will transform into stairs leading to the Foundry section of the ruin.

The Foundry[edit]

Rimmed with lava, the Foundry plays host to an assortment of Dwemer weaponry, including on the balcony that runs across the east side of the room. Look for a lever where the room narrows. This will open the door at the far end of the chamber. Here you will find more Dwemer weapons, half a dozen Gold Ingots and most valuably of all, a Grand Soul Gem filled with the essence of a Dark Seducer. This last is upon a table in the southwest corner of the room.

The Tune to Open the Way[edit]

This is the exact order you need to activate the crystals in order to open the way to the Foundry. Stand at the center of the room, and imagine that you are at the center of a compass. The statue is the northern point (as it is on your minimap), and the crystals are at the other points of the compass. Activate the crystals in this order:

  1. West
  2. Southwest
  3. Southeast
  4. Northeast
  5. East
  6. Northwest
  7. West
