Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  2. Persuade Dolyn Volor, street trader just near the entry to inn, and he'll give you Honns' Lockbane Boots
  3. Persuade Drathas Llothin, upstairs in the Watcher Cornerclub and she'll give you Honns' Crotchkicker Boots
  4. Persuade Ienasa Llothil, street trader near the Vhul Temple, and she'll give you Honns' Dungfinder Boots
  5. Persuade Onvos Dovyn, street trader near the entry to the Vhul Temple, and he'll give you Honns' Snowtrekker Boots
  6. Return at least two, or better all the items to Honns.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

This is a rather simple quest, but the reward may differ depending on your persuasion skills. If you enter The Howling Hound in Vhul, you'll find a Nord named Honns, who certainly looks like an outlander here in this place occupied almost purely by Dark Elves.

Talking to him will reveal that he is indeed not a local, but a travelling craftsman who has tried to get good deals in Vhul but has instead been cheated by the local Dunmer traders. If you agree to help him, ask around using topic swindling dark elves. The locals of Vhul will point you to the Syvvit Tong, a local guild located in the Watcher Cornerclub. The first unfair trader, Drathas Llothin, can be found here.

Other traders are all doing their business outside, and you'll have to check the streets of Vhul, but luckily they are quite easy to find. The first of them is Dolyn Volor, just near the entry to The Howling Hound, and two others are trading near the local Temple: Onvos Dovyn near the Temple doors, and Ienasa Llothil under the Temple Walls. All of those traders, if you raise their disposition high enough, will admit that they cheated the unlucky Nord craftsman, and gladly return the items: four cheap pairs of enchanted fur boots which most likely do not have any real use.

If you return these odd boots to Honns, he will reward you, however, with a pretty valuable (costing 120 gold) moonstone per each returned item, so it is recommended to find and return them all. You can, however, return only two and still be able to complete the quest. The quest can also be completed by speaking to Honns after finishing Burden of Proof and getting the Syvvit Tong traders expelled from town.

Either way, Honns will thank you for your efforts and leave the town.

Notes[edit]

  • The quest and its name are a reference to Hans in Luck (Hans im Glück), a German fairy tale about a traveller being swindled out of his valuable possessions.
  • If you have finished the quest Cleansing of the Temple previously, Onvos Dovyn can be found in his own house instead of his previous location near the front door of the Temple.

Bugs[edit]

  • Honns' Snowtrekker Boots will still remain in player's inventory even if Honns thank you for returning them and give you reward.
