Nelos' notes roam far and wide

Quick Walkthrough

1. Speak to Ethalvora in Andothren's Guild of Mages.
2. Go to Almas Thirr and recruit Nelos Llothri.
3. Convince Ilmana Dalothran in The Limping Scrib, Almas Thirr, to name her client.
4. Go to Tel Gilan, and acquire Nelos' notes from Nisa Darythi.
5. Return the notes to Nelos at Andothren's Guild of Mages.

Detailed Walkthrough

Ethalvora wishes for you to find and recruit the author of On Daedric Design, the book that you first found for her in Necrom. She will direct you to find Nelos Llothri, who has apparently been leading an unsatisfying existence in Almas Thirr. You can journey to the canton city via Guild Guide, Silt Strider, or leaving Andothren via the east gate and following the Thirr River south.

Recruiting Nelos

Asking the locals of Almas Thirr about Nelos Llothri will reveal that he owns a house on the northwest side of the city. Go there to find Nelos. Talking to him about the topic Nelos Llothri will reveal that he is reluctant to rejoin the Guild, being wary of those who would treat with the Daedra. You will have three options to respond with, but can only choose one before being locked out of the others. Each can be successful only in specific circumstances:

1. "Don't you think that the Guild needs responsible people like you? Ethalvora seems to think highly of your talents."

This will succeed if Nelos' disposition towards you is 80 or higher.

2. "I see no reason why you could not still serve the Temple while working with Ethalvora in Andothren."

This will succeed only if you are also a member of the Tribunal Temple.

3. "What a sad spectacle you are. I'm sure Ethalvora will be relieved not to have you around, once I tell her what a coward you've become."

This will succeed if your Reputation exceeds 30.

If none of these options succeed, Nelos will decline your offer, and you will be unable to ask again until you leave Almas Thirr and return (it's enough simply to move to a different, non-Almas Thirr cell, and then come back). The same options will be presented to you when you ask again, giving you a chance to try one that you might succeed in. Else, after five attempts, Nelos will give in due to your sheer persistence.

He will however have a request - that you recover his old notes on hyperbolic tesselation, and will give you 300 gold to aid in their recovery from a broker named Ilmana Dalothran.

Getting back the notes

Ilmana Dalothran is located in The Limping Scrib, which is just opposite Nelos Llothri's house. She's by the bar, and concerned about the confidentiality of her clients - requesting 500 gold and a bottle of Cyrodiilic Brandy to even consider betraying it. You'll have to pay her price to get any further here - the bottle of Cyrodiilic Brandy itself can be purchased at the bar. Once satisfied, Ilmana will name Nisa Darythi of Tel Gilan as the purchaser of the notes. Tel Gilan is the Telvanni tower adjacent to the city of Helnim, on the Inner Sea.

If you are of sufficiently high rank in the Mages Guild, you can take the guild guide from Almas Thirr to Old Ebonheart, from Old Ebonheart to Firewatch, and from Firewatch to Helnim. Ship travel can take you to Helnim through stops at Old Ebonheart and Darvonis. Tel Gilan is just east of Helnim. You'll need to levitate up to the door in the tower - you cannot access the Upper Hallways and Lord's Chambers from the lower part where the Services are. If you need a Levitation potion, there is a potion seller in the Services area that has these in stock.

Once you reach Nisa Darythi, he will prove reluctant to part with the notes for anything less than 5,000 gold. As they are on the bookshelf right behind him, you can take your chances with a bit of theft. If your Speechcraft is above 50, you can also convince Nisa that you have already paid.

Regardless of how you acquire them, return the notes to Nelos Llothri, now in the Andothren Guild of Mages, to complete the quest and receive your reward.

Back in Andothren

When next speaking to Ethalvora, ask her about Nelos Llothri to receive a reward of two scrolls: 1x Scroll of Inner Luminescence, and 1x Scroll of Lightning Ball.

Apparently, he sold his notes to a broker named Ilmana Dalothran at the Limping Scrib in Almas Thirr. Once I've acquired the notes, I'm to bring them to him at the Andothren guildhall.

80		Nisa Darythi refused to hand over Nelos Llothri's research, and seemed entertained by the prospect of inconveniencing the Guild. He agreed to sell them to me for the rather ridiculous sum of 5000 gold.
90		I acquired Nelos Llothri's notes on hyperbolic tesselation from Nisa Darythi.
100	Finishes quest	Nelos Llothri rewarded me with the Snugspring Shirt for recovering his notes on hyperbolic tesselation.
