Geography Edits[edit]

Hello, I'm messaging you to give you a notice regarding your recent geography-related edits. Firstly, I do appreciate that you are trying to help out the wiki by adding information, I know that it probably comes from good intentions. Your recent edits contain grammatical errors, poor formatting, inaccurate info, and other issues. Other editors have already/will soon cleanup these edits to fix formatting errors and re-write some parts of them to align with standardization, and in the future you are encouraged to proofread your edits. Furthermore you have erased some informative content in the process; please do not remove existing helpful information, as it risks permanent loss of important information and creates more work for others to go back and look for it to restore it.

It appears you have also been prioritizing ESO geography over other games, which is a common mistake, and the lorespace aims to document content from all games instead of erasing content from previous games for being too old. ESO's geography is also not definite, as it prioritizes its zone system first and has varying technical limitations, and its world map is already inaccurate. I noticed that you are trying to implement ESO's divisions of Black Marsh onto a lore article rewrite, and must caution you that if it makes the article worse than before it may be reverted or rewritten. When it comes to the composite maps of zones you've made, I'd like to thank you for uploading them, as the ones for the completed provinces like Summerset are useful to the wiki. For the maps of incomplete provinces however, Skyrim and Cyrodiil are more reliable as we've seen the full provinces in the main games (and therefore have a reference to measure them against), but the rest may not be suitable for lorespace as the gaps are potentially not the right size and the zone size scales could vary. However, I will try to fit them onto the Online:Provinces page so that they can still remain somewhere on the wiki. Thank you for your time The Rim of the Sky (talk) 07:18, 25 August 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for your notice, it seems I went a bit too enthusiast and that my competences in both the english language and Wiki format fall a bit short to reach the requested quality. I will stop my contribution for a while and have aborted my project of rewriting the Geography section of Black Marsh. I may restart contributing some time later starting with smaller things more in the range of my abilities. Is there a procedure to have someone control an article/a change before publishing it?
I'm sorry my errors caused more work for others. Mainly for the Lore:Hammerfell article, I believe a major update was much needed for this article but the task was really too big for me and my knowledge of games such as Daggerfall and Shadowkey to small. I saw that Imperialbattlespire is working on a complete revamp of the article and it seems for more in line with what was needed. I put some of my interrogations I had about this particuliar article on the talkpage : User talk:Imperialbattlespire/Hammerfell and if him or you can take time to answer it, I will greatly appreciate. I will not touch the article itself.
I'm glad the maps may find some use. I uploaded them after some people requested it on https://www.reddit.com/r/ElderScrolls/ after I published the 3 first ones there. Finally, I really enjoyed making the Lore: Skyreach article, and I particularly hope this one will be usefull.Bengamey 974 (talk) 08:13, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
Final note, I've notice you didin't displayed the map BlackMarsh on the Online:Provinces page, if it's because it contain an error I will gladly correct it.Bengamey 974 08:26, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
No worries, mistakes when editing happen all the time. The geography sections for regions and province pages in general are delicate to handle due to how we try to get the key info from each game and work around inconsistencies, I wouldn't recommend any beginner editor to do them because of how complicated it can be to pull off. It'll take a bit of time but we're working on trying to make everything the best it can be; for ImpBat's Hammerfell revamp I'd recommend waiting until its done as its still a work-in-progress and its best not to ask somebody to add things on a personal sandbox until the project is complete, unless you have the writer's permission to provide feedback.
If you still want to make lore articles about locations I do encourage you to write pages about individual places like Lore:Skyreach, which turned out pretty good, as they're a lot more simple to write and the wiki is still missing pages on some notable locations. I keep on meaning to write Lore:Zthenganaz for example, but I never get the time to do it.
As for the Black Marsh map I did mean to add it once I fix some formatting on the Provinces page itself. The gap between Murkmire and Gloommire is bigger than the in-game map lets on, but how everything is placed is anyone's guess. It should be up shortly. By the way, your Tamriel fan map looks really good! Thanks for taking this all so well, and good luck! The Rim of the Sky (talk) 23:53, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
