Discussion from before the major rewrite of my TES Fan Fiction Collection page.[edit]

These discussions took place before I rewrote the TES Fan Fiction Collection page, and may no longer relate to the current content of the page. Darictalk 03:08, 9 January 2013 (GMT)

War Mages gladiatorial team[edit]

My interest in the gladiatorial teams of Arena is wider than just the "War Mages" and how they feature in the Gaersmith family history. I'm also interested in the real-life story behind the change to the coding of the original game, which left the gladiatorial teams as orphans. As I mentioned in my userpage, I was more interested in the Alternate Reality series by Datasoft back in the early 80's. Coincidentally, Alternate Reality also had a planned Arena game which was scrapped and never released. The similarities between the original concepts for TES I: Arena, and Alternate Reality: The Arena are striking. Does anyone have further information about what happened back then, and whether there was some relationship between these two projects? Daric Gaersmith (talk) 10:28, 15 December 2012 (GMT)

Fanfiction is fun![edit]

I like to flesh out my characters too, and I am a big fan of good fanfiction, which is what prompted to give your page a read as I was patrolling the latest edits on the Recent Changes page. I must say, I've never heard of a fanfiction author writing such a detailed disclaimer about fanfiction, but you've got me interested. As a writer myself, I applaud that you're not breaking lore unnecessarily, because that bothers me to no end when the most minor of details are changed for no gain in the plot. I can't wait to see what you come up with for your stories! :) Snowmane(talkemail) 00:35, 16 December 2012 (GMT)

Thanks for the positive feedback Eric. The disclaimer I have put up is only really about lore so far, I haven't yet added the section about law. There is such a lot to consider these days when writing fan fiction tales. Copyright and intellectual property rights are a minefield that many fan-fic writers don't even consider. For instance, it might be permissible to mention that my character was born in Bruma, Cyrodiil, a province of Tamriel, but it may become a violation if I also mention that my character carries an Elder Scroll in his backpack. I'm no lawyer, but I try my best to abide by the rules with my fan-fic writing.
I have had a read through your character overview, thanks for sharing it. I particularly like your opening clause about your character's not being the in-game hero (Nerevarine) as this could break too much lore. As you see with the intro I have written so far for Daric Gaersmith, he is ready to traverse the Pale Pass through the Jerall Mountains and into Skyrim during 4E 201, much like your Jayred. I see the problem you're hinting at with your disclaimer. That was a rather small cart which pulled into Helgen on that fatefull day. We can't all have been there at once. Hehe. I'll be keen to see how they work out such conundrums in the Elder Scrolls Online. Daric Gaersmith (talk) 23:05, 16 December 2012 (GMT)
