Repositioning the shadowmarks without repositioning the map marker[edit]

Currently trying to figure out how to reposition the shadowmarks without repositioning the map marker. Feel free to reply here or on my talk page if you see a solution. Mikeyboy52 (talk) 08:24, 7 February 2013 (GMT)

I can foresee a problem with that. The shadowmark images are black on a transparent background. If they are not centered on the map markers, they will be hard to see on the dark background of the map. Unless someone else can suggest a better solution, it would probably be easier to utilize the inherited |mark= parameter within {{Image Mark}}, and a different coloured set of shadowmark images entirely. This would mean having to create a new set of coloured shadowmark images and uploading them to the wiki. There must be a better way than my solution though.
Apart from that, it is important to understand the priority of the parameters. Have a good look at Template:Image_Mark/Doc. The first four parameters are reserved, unless you specify them. Your use of the first two parameters is exemplary. However, your third parameter, the shadowmark icon image, ends up as the |label= parameter unless you specify it otherwise. Similarly, the fourth parameter (which you have been leaving blank) is the |mark_alt= or hover-text parameter. Make use of parameters available to you from within {{Image Mark}}. You don't need to specify a |link= within the [[File:]] block, when there is a |mark_link= parameter as part of {{Image Mark}}.
I hope that all makes sense and is somehow useful to you. If you want help with creating a new set of shadowmark images in a different colour, I'd be happy to help. Darictalk 10:17, 7 February 2013 (GMT)
I have uploaded a sample yellow shadowmark for you. If you change the first {{Image Mark}} entry in your data to the example below, you will see what it looks like.
{{Image Mark|291|618||mark_alt=Amren's House|mark_link=SR:Amren's House|mark=SR-icon-shadowmark-Danger-yellow.png|mark_width=20}}
I hope this is useful to you, but feel free not to use it. I didn't want to edit your sandbox directly without your permission, even just to show the example above. Darictalk 11:46, 9 February 2013 (GMT)
Firstly thanks for the detailed information and the link to the template that I couldn't find. Secondly thanks for the suggestion to use a different colored shadowmark. I was about to first put marks, than put images on top of them (basically doubling the code). MB52TK 12:38, 9 February 2013 (GMT)

Problems[edit]

No matter what format I save in, or settings I mess with, the background for shadowmarks is never transparent. GIMP is annoying. If anyone's willing, please post some shadowmarks in a bright silver. Thanks in advance :)MB52TK 07:38, 25 February 2013 (GMT)

What I do to get transparency (dated gimp version, your menues might differ slightly) is using "Layer->Transparency->Add Alpha Channel". Then I select the background and delete it (CTRL-X). Finally saving in png format. --Alfwyn (talk) 18:45, 25 February 2013 (GMT)
The example one I made earlier (in yellow) was simply a flood fill over the black, and then saved as *.png, without touching the existing transparency. I can knock out the rest quite easily using the same technique if you like. Let me know exactly what colour you want them to be, using RGB/HEX codes. Darictalk 05:12, 26 February 2013 (GMT)
