Beredalmo the Signifier was a historian from the mid-Second Era. He was a member of House Direnni[1][UOL 1] and was one of the greatest living experts in Ayleid lore[UOL 2] and mythohistory at the time.[2] Much of his writings pertain to his Direnni ancestors (Once and Wayshrines of Tamriel) and Ayleid history, especially from the Ayleid Diaspora in Valenwood. History[edit]

Beredalmo was a member of House Direnni, who hail from the Isle of Balfiera in the Iliac Bay. Beredalmo lived in the Tourmaline Steeple where he cared for his relative, Heron, and studied Ayleid tomes throughout the day.[1] One of these texts was partially translated and released as The Swallowed City, about an Ayleid city that was cast into Coldharbour by Molag Bal himself.[3] Another piece of text was an Ayleidoon reference for phrases and translations that was painstakingly transcribed and interpreted over many years.[4][Note 1] The Remnant of Light is a translated Ayleid tract about the eponymous artifact found in the Doomcrag and how it found its way to Rivenspire.[5]

In preparation for his treatise, Wayshrines of Tamriel, Beredalmo went through Corvus' old workshop in Direnni Tower and read his memoirs.[6] The book, Once is an ode to Direnni ancestry, their many accomplishments throughout the years and their greatest failure, solving the mystery of the Zero Stone and opening the Argent Aperture in Direnni Tower.[1]

The Aurbic Enigma is a series of stories about the Towers, mythical structures found across Nirn. The fourth book revolves around the Elden Tree and describes the story of how King Anumaril rooted the Elden Tree in Elden Root and built the Osseous Orrery.[7] The contemporary Imperial historian, Morian Zenas released the "Commentaries on Beredalmo" and commented on the author's thoughts on the Orrery.[8] The Heart of Valenwood is a book about the ancient Ayleid city of Hectahame and the Heart of Valenwood within its innermost sanctum.[9]
