The Locvar were a barbarian tribe active on Summerset Isle during the Merethic Era, known for their conflict with Clan Direnni.[1]

History[edit]

Conflict with Direnni[edit]

The history of the Locvar remains largely obscure, though it is said that in ancient times they were notorious for raiding and pillaging the territories of the Direnni.[1]

The lands of the Direnni Clan were repeatedly raided by the Locvar tribe, who relentlessly plundered the crops of the farmers. To put an end to the raids, local herbalist Asliel Direnni devised a plan. He created a potion that granted invisibility and distributed it to the able-bodied members of the Direnni. When the Locvar warriors launched their next raid on Tyrigel, they were ambushed by the invisible Direnni, causing them to retreat in fear and believing that the lands were haunted.

Despite ongoing Locvar raids, the tribe was constantly met with resistance from invisible defenders whenever they attacked. Eventually, the Locvar caught on to the ruse and sent a scout to confirm that Tyrigel had not been abandoned by the Direnni, but rather protected by Asliel's alchemical abilities.[1]

Abduction of Asliel Direnni[edit]

After discovering the source of their losses, the Locvar tribe took action to prevent Asliel from aiding his kin. Without alerting the other Direnni, they kidnapped the alchemist. The chieftain of the Locvar desired to use the Direnni's own weapon against them and coveted the secret of the invisibility potion. To obtain the recipe, the chieftain's scout informed him that Asliel had used vampire dust to make the farmers invisible, but was unsure of the second ingredient. Consequently, the Locvar chieftain ordered the torture of Asliel to extract the alchemical secrets from him. Eventually, the tortured Altmer lied, claiming that the second element was Glow Dust, the remains of a Will-o-the-Wisp.[1]

The Locvar tribesmen gathered the necessary ingredients for the invisibility potion and forced the captive alchemist, Asliel, to brew it. While left unsupervised, Asliel added the true second ingredient, redwort, to the mixture, which was a very common herb. The Locvar chieftain demanded Asliel to drink the potion first, but Asliel had added a potent poison to the concoction. He drank the poison and immediately used the antidote to cure himself. The Locvar tribe drank the poison-laced invisibility potion and perished, having been tricked by Asliel's deceit.[1]

Aftermath[edit]

After the Locvar tribe's demise, the Direnni enjoyed a period of growth and prosperity without any nearby enemies to threaten them. Eventually, they left the Summerset Isles and embarked on their historic adventures on the Tamriel mainland. Since then Asliel Direnni's reputation as a skilled alchemist preceded him and earned him an invitation to join the Psijic Order on the isle of Artaeum. He played a significant role in establishing the foundations of alchemy as it is known in modern Tamriel.[1] His expertise in alchemy was further demonstrated by his creation of the Compendious Almanac of Reagents, a highly regarded work in the field.[2]
