[edit] About Me

Real Name: Robert William John Morley

Oblivion is my first TES game so far. I'm enjoying it well enough, have bought all the expansions for it, and will likely continue to play the series for as long as it lasts, though my all-time favourite game remains Diablo II. I'm looking forward to Diablo III and am very happy that they've continued to allow single-player play, as I hate MMP/MMOs with a passion...if I wanted to interact with real people, I wouldn't be playing a computer game!

As for me, I'm a 38-year-old gay male, living in Ottawa with my partner, Pat. We've been in an open relationship for 15 of the 16 years we've been together. I'm nearly housebound by what strongly appears to be Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (fka Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). This has yet to be confirmed by a doctor...mostly cuz I've seen four of them already, and I just don't have the energy to get out and see yet another one! The good news is that to a point, it improved over time and now seems to have stabilized. There are good days and bad, but for the most part, nothing I can't handle as long as I don't overexert myself (and it's amazing what constitutes an "exertion" at this point).

For work, I'm currently working from home for Bell Canada as a Database Administrator.

Anything else you wanna know about me? Feel free to ask on my Talk/Discussion page, or send me a private e-mail at rmorley@magma.ca [1]. Please note that that address is heavily spam filtered due to the fact that I regularly use that address in public venues such as this, so if you don't get a reply to an e-mail, it's probably not because I'm ignoring you; I simply never got it. Try again with less spam-filterable content, or just post to my Talk/Discussion page.

[edit] My Website

I now have a wiki of my own, which will serve as my personal home page as well as let me practice my wiki editing skills. Because of the popularity of this site and the number of vandals it attracts, I won't make my site public. If you'd like the address, please e-mail me at rmorley@magma.ca [2]. Those of you whom I interact with regularly are welcome to create User Pages there if you wish. Not sure why you'd want to, but you're more than welcome to do so! :)

[edit] Oblivion Gate Markers Mod

I've just completed work on a mod that will add quest markers to all open Oblivion Gates, making them much easier to find. You can find it on TesNexus: Oblivion Gate Markers. If anybody spots any bugs, please let me know.

Things to look for:

  • Does the quest start okay as soon as you exit the Imperial Sewers at the beginning of the game (or immediately upon installation if you're already past that)?
  • Have I missed any gates? (90 random gates, 10 fixed, 1 for Boethia)
  • Are the various fixed gates identified and removed at the proper times, including the individual gates within the Great Gate quest?
  • Are any of the random gates indicated incorrectly (no gate at marker, gate already closed at marker, no marker on open gate)?

If you find a problem, please tell me which gate(s) are problematic, preferably with the map name found using the console commands SDT 0 and TDT.

[edit] Other Mods I Use

See my mods page for a list of all the mods I use.

[edit] Characters

After a couple of "get to know the game" characters, a couple of characters that didn't work well and one incident with a mod that caused saved games without it to no longer load (for reasons I never understood, nor did I ever figure out which mod caused the problem), I finally created a character with which I intended to do every quest in the game.

[edit] Hayu

(as in "Hey, you!")

Male Redguard born under the sign of The Ritual, custom class ("Ninja" - Stealth specialty - Illusion, Acrobatics, etc. for Majors)

After 261 real-life days (not all of them actually playing), Hayu has completed every single "significant" quest in the game, including unlisted quests, all the add-on quests, and so forth...missing only a few of the advanced training quests, which I don't consider as quests per se.

Hayu's basic character concept was the honorable knight with lofty ideals who slowly but surely was corrupted by the grim realities of...well...reality. He progressed from Knight of the Nine to ultimately, the head of the Dark Brotherhood, ultimately admitting the joy he'd always gotten out of killing things.

Random End Game Stats
Day: 286 - Mid-Year 8, 3E434 (after uselessly waiting with nothing else to do for 14 days for my freakin' armor!)

Skills: Journeyman - 6, Expert - 7, Master - 8
Lowest Attribute after permanent adjustments: 95 (Personality)

Fame: 203, Infamy: 60
Creatures Killed: 2022, People Killed: 931

[edit] Sheara

Female High Elf born under the sign of The Apprentice, custom class "Occultist" - Magic specialty - Majors: Acrobatics & Athletics (cuz sometimes, you just gotta run away), Block (for casting while defending), Alteration, Conjuration, Illusion, Mysticism.

Sheara will be more for fun, without worrying about doing all the quests or advancing stats & skills fairly evenly like Hayu. The basic concept is a Magicka-heavy character who will progress nearly inversely to how Hayu did. The challenge, of course, will be to face any spell-casting character without dying because they sneezed at her. As you can read below, she starts off completely nuts, and is therefore quite naturally drawn to Shivering Isles. Upon finishing Shivering Isles, she will actually begin to recover from her temporary insanity, but only slowly. She'll start first by going on a murderous rampage (some random killings of unimportant citizenry, Black Hand quests, and then Thieves Guild to significantly increase Infamy early on) then progressing through the less-evil quests to ultimately finish with Knights of the Nine (and out of curiosity for what gameplay is like afterwards, I'll be doing the main quest moderately early on as well...probably after the Black Hand).

Back story: Sheara was once a powerful spellcaster, focussing largely on the arts of Mysticism and Conjuration. Unfortunately, however, she played with forces beyond her capabilities and while she managed to avoid death, the repercussions of the event cost her her sanity. Her dementia was, of course, noticed by the Imperial City guard and landed her in jail, which is where we begin. :)

[edit] Other Projects, Hacks, Etc.

  • I contributed significantly to the Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Unofficial Patch.
  • Hacked Diablo II's character saved-game format for v. 1.09+, correctly figuring out the CRC check...only to find out someone else had beaten me to it. :(
  • Messed around a bit with Baldur's Gate II...nothing significant ever released.
  • Completely reverse-engineered Ultima III in 1993 and reproduced the game in a more "modern" Turbo Pascal 7, complete with interrupt-based animation. Lost the code in a hard drive crash about a year or two later.
  • Created map decoder complete with both text-based display and full graphical animation for X-COM: Terror from the Deep. Lost the code in the same hard drive crash as above. I re-created a text-only version of it in Turbo Pascal 7 afterwards, but never the full graphical version.

[edit] Pages to Keep an Eye On

Because I've got auto-watch turned on to track any reversions or changes to edits I make or patrol, it's inconvenient to keep useful pages there. This is just a list of pages that I use regularly, for my convenience.
