Thank you for your contribution on the Eldamil page. However, there's a few things you should be aware of. First of all, the preferred format for image uploads is JPG, not PNG. PNGs are okay for small things like icons, but not for images that will get re-sized. You'll notice that the thumbnail becomes nearly all black and impossible to see on the page. Secondly, it is against site-policy to put signatures or attributions on main articles. We can tell who made the edits by looking at the page history, so attributions are un-necessary and detract from the article. (By contrast, signatures should be used on talk pages, but not main articles.) --TheRealLurlock 01:08, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

I hope I'm allowed to reply. If I'm even doing this right. Really sorry about that. I misread the section on acceptable formats, and I'm a newbie to the Wikiness. I'm reading through the rules and all that jazz. I hope I don't mess up too much. Looking like a jackass isn't one of my goals. :B Anothir 01:17, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

No problem. Everybody starts somewhere. Anyhow, if you want to upload a new version of the picture as a JPG, that would be more compatible on most browsers. (It seems that some browsers can see the image and some just get black, but unless everyone can see it, it's probably best not to use it.) JPGs resize better than PNGs, so that's why we use them. (They're also a good deal smaller in terms of file-size.) If not, I'd say we don't necessarily need an image. Very few NPC pages have images on them, (the only other one I can think of is Emperor Uriel VII's page.) Don't hesitate to ask myself or any of the other more experienced editors if you have any questions. --TheRealLurlock 01:26, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

Okie dokie. Since you've made an effort to help out a dork, I will probably come to you for... questions. Unless you're busy, of course.

You even aligned your reply to the right. Wow. Would it be bad if I resized the picture? Or... should I just remove it. I'm sort of a neat-freak and I like lots of details, pictures, etc. Especially for the NPCs. It's fascinating. Or I'm too nerdy, even for UESP. :P Anothir 01:31, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

In all honesty, I don't feel the need for a picture, unless we were going to go and take pictures of everyone, which is frankly far more work than I feel up to. On top of that, the picture is, well, not that good. It looks like you just pointed a camera at your TV. (I'm guessing you're playing on X-box?) We usually leave the screenshots to people playing the PC version, because they can just do a frame-grab, and get much better quality images. However, I'm not an authority here. I'm not even an admin, just an editor like yourself, though with more experience. The NPC pages have been one of my many projects for the past several months, though, and thus I have certain familiarity with their formatting. (90% of all the existing NPC pages were either created or fixed by me, if you'll notice.) This brings me to another point. If you're going to be creating more NPC pages, it would be helpful if you'd look at the code on existing pages and use those as a template. This page: UESPWiki:Style Guide/NPC Layout tells you everything you should know about editting NPC pages. And don't worry about being "too nerdy". You should see my post-count. We're all a bit nerdy here. (Oh, and intending replies on talk pages is standard practice on the site, just so you know.) --TheRealLurlock 01:52, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

Alrighty. :D I'll remove it. I am playing the XBOX version. And yes, the picture does suck, now that I really look at it. I'm going to learn the tricks of the trade, and I won't make anymore additions until I know what I'm doing, and never submit another image.

Thanks for your patience. --Anothir 04:50, 1 October 2006 (EDT)

One of Wikipedia's sayings is "Be bold (but don't be reckless)" Heck, I didn't even know that PNG files were frowned upon until now. If you want to help contribute to the wiki, just look for something that needs to be done, talk to someone if you feel that you need to, and jump right in. There are plenty of help files on this site and on Wikipedia that can help get you started. --Aristeo 18:24, 1 October 2006 (EDT)
