Find these legendary boots in the stronghold of Berandas, south of Gnisis.edit

Boots of the Apostle.
Boots of the Apostle.

The place-name reference in the Oracle's prophecy is obvious. An ancient Dunmer stronghold called Berandas lies south of the village of Gnisis in the West Gash region. I would also not be surprised to find that the reference to "wings of twilight" designates the guardians of the treasure you seek. Winged twilights are Daedric servants of the Daedra Lord Azura, one of the Anticipations worshiped in the Tribunal Temple. -- A Savants Tale

[edit] Quick Walkthrough

  1. Talk to Lalatia Varian at the Imperial Chapels in Ebonheart for an Oracle's quest.
  2. Travel to Berandas to recover the Boots of the Apostle.
  3. Find the boots on the corpse of a fallen hero in the Underground.
  4. (Optional) Talk to Ama Nin and give her a Scroll of Divine Intervention for her escape.
  5. Return to Lalatia to complete the quest.

[edit] Detailed Walkthrough

[edit] Oracle's Quest

Lalatia Varian at the Imperial Chapels in Ebonheart will ask you to recover the Boots of the Apostle. Varian is considerably less cryptic in her prophecy this time, and actually names the ruins of Berandas, the stronghold on the west coast, south-east of Gnisis. It's on your paper map.

[edit] Boots of the Apostle

Go to Berandas with a good supply of Scrolls of Divine Intervention (you can buy as many as you want from the enchanter in Vivec's Mages Guild). Like most strongholds, Berandas is large and hard to miss from the outside, and has several levels inside. On the first level there is a corpse with two Daedric arrows sticking out of it. You shouldn't encounter anything too tough until you get to the bottom level, Berandas Underground, which has the body of the fallen hero with the boots. The corpse is in the room with two Winged Twilights.

[edit] Mara's Manifestation

Use the boots' levitate ability to find a few hidden places in the stronghold, including another god manifestation, this time of Mara (under the name of Ama Nin). She's in the same room with the boots. She wants a scroll of Divine Intervention, and rewards you with Mara's Blouse and Mara's Skirt.

Return to Lalatia Varian with the boots, which you get to keep.

[edit] Notes

  • There is also a skeleton transfixed to a stalagtite by a Daedric Spear, and a Daedric Dagger on this level, as well as a dead body with a stolen key on top of some rocks, you need levitation to get to it. This key opens the chest behind the dead hero's body as well as a hidden chest in the same room that can only be reached with levitation.

[edit] Bugs

  • When you give Mara the scroll, she will disappear, but you will still be in dialogue with her. If you mention Divine Intervention again, and give her another scroll you can get more blouses and skirts. Each time you do this your Reputation goes up by 1.

1 Lalatia Varian, an Oracle of the Imperial cult, has been given a prophecy of the Boots of the Apostle, a legendary treasure of Cyrodiil, relics of Tiber Septim who was also called Talos. "Through the doors of Berandas, within the silent caverns, beneath the wings of twilight, dust sleeps in the shoes that Talos wore." The Oracle bid me retrieve the Boots of the Apostle. A Dunmer savant or Dunmer scout may have clues to the meaning of the Oracle's prophetic words.
5 A Dunmer scout said an ancient Dunmer stronghold called Berandas lies south of the village of Gnisis in the West Gash region. Berandas is also distinctive among Dunmer stronghold, in that extensive caverns lie beneath the centuries-old architectural ruins.
10 A Dunmer savant said an ancient Dunmer stronghold called Berandas lies south of the village of Gnisis in the West Gash region. The savant also guessed that the "wings of twilight" might hint at guardians -- the winged twilights who are Daedric servants of Azura.
50Finished I retrieved the Boots of the Apostle from Berandas and brought them to Lalatia Varian. She praised me, and said that I was meant to keep the boots for myself, and that I should dedicate them to the service of the Nine. The Oracle said to speak to her again when I am ready to undertake another of the Oracle's Quests.
60Finished I brought the Boots of the Apostle to Lalatia Varian. I may keep the boots for myself, and should dedicate them to the service of the Nine. And the Oracle thinks I may have spoken with the goddess Mara herself, disguised in mortal form to test me, and that such chance meetings are a sign of the Nine's favor. The Oracle said to speak to her again when I am ready to undertake another of the Oracle's Quests.

1 I found a Breton healer in Berandas named Ama Nin. She had been snatched from the Gnisis-Ald'ruhn road by winged twilights, who bore her deep within Berandas and stranded her on a pillar of rock. She had prayed to the Nine for aid, and thought I was the answer to her prayers. She asked me for a Divine Intervention scroll, so she could escape, but I didn't have any. She suggested I should go get one and bring it back so she could be rescued.
