Overview

The Unusual Gem(s) are a collection of stones that are found throughout Skyrim. After finding one, a miscellaneous quest will be given which requires the player to have the gem (or gems) appraised; to do so, travel to the town of Riften and speak with Maul, who will direct the player to Vex at the Thieves Guild.

Details

In order for Vex to appraise the stones, the player must first become a member of the Thieves Guild, which requires completing the relevant quest chain; this would appear to be mutually exclusive with the Dark Brotherhood quest chain.
