The UESPWiki – Your source for The Elder Scrolls since 1995
Jump to: navigation, search

Hi, welcome to UESPWiki! Thanks for your interest in contributing to the site. However, the page you have been creating at UESPWiki:Codes is, as you were immediately told by User:Rpeh, unnecessary because the information is already provided elsewhere on the wiki. And by ignoring/deleting Rpeh's request and proceeding to add a ton of unnecessary information to that page, you ultimately succeeded in creating an oversized wiki page that has since triggered multiple bugs with the server. As a result, the server is now going to end up shutting down for multiple hours every day until the site administrator can return and fix the problems that you have caused. Of course, I'm sure you did not realize that your edits would cause such a major site-wide problem, but the fact is that they now have, and it could have been avoided if you had followed the advice given to you when you tried to start this project, or even just spent the time to ask someone about that advice before charging ahead with your plans. In order to try to prevent any more server connections from getting locked up on your article, I've proceeded to speedily delete the page. Although it's not our normal policy, I felt this action was necessary in this case as a last-ditch attempt to stop the article from making our server situation even worse.

As for the article itself, the information that you have been trying to add to that article is already available in other places, such as Oblivion:Spells and all the articles linked to from Oblivion:Items. It is also already all available at Oblivion:ConsoleItemCodes (and please do not try to edit that article, because then you will just trigger the server bug yet again, because it is another article that is much too large for the wiki software to handle properly). So a third listing of these codes really is not necessary. Furthermore, the UESPWiki namespace is definitely not the right place to provide any such information. The UESPWiki namespace is reserved for information about the operation and management of the site overall, and is not supposed to contain any game-specific information.

My apologies if this feedback seems overly harsh and negative, but I am admittedly a bit frustrated right now by the prospect of the problems that I'm now going to have to deal with over the next few days. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions. --NepheleTalk 12:21, 19 July 2007 (EDT)

Thanks so much for trying again to cause server problems by editing Oblivion:ConsoleItemCodes despite my request that you not try to edit that article. Luckily for you that edit did not have any negative effects. And, no, I am not going to post detailed information here on the exact steps you should follow if you want to crash the server. But several past edits to that article have had that effect. Please do not make any further attempts to edit the ConsoleItemCodes article. If you continue to try to disrupt the site, your account and your IP address will be blocked from editing. --NepheleTalk 12:46, 23 July 2007 (EDT)
