Fjotra was a Reachfolk[nb 1][1]:332 Sibyl of the Markarth's chapter of the House of Dibella. She was selected as a Sybil during the ceremony of Exalted Protocol of the Dibellan Sybil in 4E 201, which followed the death of her predecessor.[2]

Fjotra was a child of Enmon and Mena, two citizens of Karthwasten.[3][4] In 4E 201 she was kidnapped from her family by a commando of Forsworn from the Broken Tower Redoubt. This specific group of Forsworn was not known to cause problems in the town or attack the Karthwasten before. They ignored everyone else in the town and prioritized the abduction of the girl. She was taken to their base at Broken Tower Redoubt,[3] kept imprisoned in the cell in the sacrificial chamber and guarded by one of the elite Forsworn Briarheart warriors.[2][1]:332 It was there, in the cell inside the sacrificial chamber filled with ritual fetishes and candles, with the altar and the statue of Dibella covered in blood, where she learned from her kidnappers that she was touched by gods. Despite the abduction and harsh treatment, the girl was unharmed by the members of the Forsworn.[5][1]:332

In the same year, the Markarth chapter of the House of Dibella was closed. The visitors were allowed to receive blessings but most of the sisters were in seclusion and could not be disturbed because they were communing with their goddess Dibella.[6]

The Temple held the secret ceremony of Exalted Protocol of the Dibellan Sybil in order to select and locate the new Sybil of the chapter due to the recent demise of the previous holder of this post. The death of the previous Sybil was not made public as priestesses of the Temple of Dibella prefer not to announce that the Sybil has died until the new one can be introduced. Although the ceremony was interrupted by the Last Dragonborn they managed to foresee the location of the home of the next Sybil, in the north, in a small village pressed against the stone. Priestesses of Dibella believed that the location from the vision was in fact Karthwasten and sent the intruder to retrieve the girl for them, as soon as possible as a form of repentance for their transgression and interruption of the sacred rites. It was uncommon precedence as the intruders typically face harsher punishment such as quick death. However due to the more pressing matters than making an example of the intruder, they decided to put them to better use.[2][7]

The adventurer ventured to the Karthwasten to escort the young Sybil to the Temple of Dibella in Markarth, but once they arrived at the hamlet the girl was already missing. Her father Enmon, one of the local miners informed the Last Dragonborn about his daughter's situation and offered his assistance with the rescue. It is unknown whether they ventured to the Broken Tower Redoubt together or if the adventurer chose to fight the Forsworn alone.[2][3]

The rescue mission was successful, the Briarheart who was guarding her was killed and the girl was freed from the cell in the Broken Tower Redoubt. She was honored to be called for the duty of the Sybil of the Temple of Dibella and expressed a wish to learn from the priestesses and reach the Temple as soon as possible.[5] After she was rescued, both her parents expressed great relief that she was safe, and were honored to hear that their daughter was chosen to become the next Sybil of the Temple of Dibella. Although they missed her greatly they believed that as a Sybil she will one day help all the Skyrim.[3][4]

The girl was escorted to Markarth, where Mother Hamal of the Temple of Dibella has made all the arrangements for Fjotra to begin her life of communing with the goddess.[1]:332 She took the girl to begin the required preparations so Fjotra could properly represent the Temple and promised to send the message to the girl's family to ensure them that she is safe.[7] The escort received the potent blessing of Dibella as a reward.[2][7][1]:332

Fjotra soon began her life as a Sybil and was expected to spend her entire life in direct communion with the goddess, devoid of dangers or hardship and blessed with great bounty. According to the priestesses of the Temple she served as a direct connection with the heavenly mother. From her reverie, the sisters could interpret the mind of their deity.[7]

  • 1.  Although Fjotra belongs to Nord Child race in Skyrim files, the only time her race is explicitly stated, she is referred to as a Reachwoman.
