- Make the attack.
[edit] Detailed Walkthrough
[edit] Finding the Dead Drop
The dead drop for this quest is located just inside the Ayleid Ruin of Nornal. Go around the first set of semi-circular steps, and off to the right is a half submerged gate. Pick the lock, jump the gate, or search the ruins for A Rusty Key; the dead drop is in an underwater area behind the gate.
[edit] The Target
Your 7th Dead Drop Order involves the assassination of a Wood Elf named Ungolim in Bravil. He visits a certain statue there - the statue of the Lucky Old Lady - every night between 6pm and 1am. He is expecting trouble, and he has paid off the guards in case things get nasty.
[edit] Make the Attack
The moment you set foot in Bravil at night, Ungolim will attack you on sight with his bow. You do not have to worry about getting a large bounty or getting into additional fights with the Bravil guards due to Ungolim's bribe. Simply kill Ungolim however you see fit to complete the contract. As soon as the kill is made, Lucien Lachance will appear and approach you.
[edit] Alternate Attacks
If you are having trouble with Ungolim pelting you from afar, simply run over to the main gate and stand behind one of the guards - due to the way the AI follows you with a bow, it's no problem to just sidestep behind a guard right as Ungolim fires, sending the arrow into the guard. This will cause all the guards in town to come circle around Ungolim and gang murder him in a much more aesthetic manner. If you can't find a town guard to get in the line of fire, any townsperson will do. If Ungolim hits any Bravil resident, the guards will attack.
For a different method of death, run out of the town gates and watch as Shadowmere and a bay horse maul Ungolim to death when he follows.
Ungolim never sleeps, but you can sneak attack him if you have 100% chameleon(any lower does not work) or invisibility. To aid with killing him, pickpocket his key before the quest (hard to do, so save before trying) and enter his house when he is home (usually daytime). Then you can kill him without the advantage of ranged attacks that he would get if you were a melee character. His house is small and has a small room that you can use to duck into when he shoots arrows. As he carries a torch, pickpocketing is hard. You should knock him unconscious with a sneak attack and then steal it before he gets up (wait until the eye icon goes red) before you start the quest. Once you kill him, place the key on his body and exit. Select his body again and the key won't be stolen.
[edit] Notes
- Also, for those of you with high Acrobatics (the boots of Springheel Jak are handy here), it is possible to get on the roof of the building next to the Fighters Guild. This is a very nice place to shoot him from, as he has no idea where you are. If you use a damage poison he'll just run about, then collapse. Just make sure you jump off the roof before he dies once he's poisoned, or else Lucien Lachance can't find you (see Bugs below.)
- Ungolim's House is locked and cannot be opened without the key, presumably to keep the player from sneaking into his house during the day and assassinating him in his sleep. You can, however, pick his pocket for the key before the quest begins.
[edit] Bugs
- Make sure, when you kill Ungolim, to be at a place where Lucien can access you afterwards. If you stand on a rooftop while killing Ungolim, you'll see the text about Lachance coming, but are not able to move. Players on the PC version can fix this problem by putting
enableplayercontrolsinto the console; it's then possible to jump down to where Lucien is, speak with him and continue.
This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.
- If you have gotten Dawnfang and Duskfang, entering Nornal will cause them to split into two swords.
[edit] Journal Entries
- Notes
- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage quest stage. Wherequestis the internal name of the quest, andstageis the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
