The Daedric artifact Volendrung is a powerful two-handed dwemer warhammer that can be obtained as the reward for Malacath's Daedric Quest.
Volendrung has appeared in many Elder Scrolls games. In Daggerfall it was a very powerful daedric artifact. It had the limitation that if it was dissatisfied with its owner, it would disappear, only to turn up in some future age, when it found a worthy hero. According to the Daggerfall lore most of these artifacts had a time limit or a limited useful life and couldn't be recharged, together with a mind of their own, demanding respect and worthiness from their owner, or they would leave him.
In Morrowind this artifact had a more or less historic value only, and didn't carry its Daggerfall characteristics or power. It appears as an un-enchanted warhammer of modest strength.
Volendrung is also mentioned in the book "Modern Heretics." In this book, however, it is described as a sword; this appears to be a mistake made when writing this one book.
