[edit] Carahil
Is it me, or does everyone in the quest say that Carahil is a man. But if you go to the mages guild, she is a woman.
It could be a glitch or something. I need to check this myself.--ShakenMike 18:22, 20 February 2007 (EST)
- Yes, Lorgren does seem to be slightly confused about Carahil's gender. Specifically, Lorgren says:
- Carahil was justified in his actions.
- You've assisted me in completing the very thing Carahil and his cabal sought to prevent all those years ago;;
- However, it does seem pretty clear that Lorgren is talking about the same Carahil who is now head of the Anvil Mages Guild, since if you talk to her she says:
- I've heard you were able to lift the curse from Benirus Manor and destroy Lorgren Benirus once and for all. I thank you for completing the task I set about to do long ago.
- The rest of Tamriel at least seems pretty consistent in referring to Carahil as "she"; every other dialogue I can find about Carahil gets the gender correct. I'm guessing this is just a mistake on the part of the developers. --Nephele 22:05, 20 February 2007 (EST)
Hmmmm, maybe Lorgren knows something about Carahil we don't????- Arch_Mage
-
- Who said it was the same Carahil, Lorgren is Velwyn Grandfather (if i remember correctly) so its going back some time, 2 generations, so at that time there could of been someone else in charge... Possibly. --Marleysexton 14:41, 24 February 2008 (EST)
[edit] How do I get kind of money for this quest?
I'm just wondering thats all.--ShakenMike 21:33, 24 February 2007 (EST)
There are various ways to build up large amounts of money. One is to complete other quests for rewards. Another way is to loot dungeons for items that you can sell for gold. Just explore the world. If you avoid fast-travelling and walk to your destinations, you'll end up with a great deal of money. --GuildKnight 09:53, 25 February 2007 (EST)
Thanks for the advice--ShakenMike 10:51, 25 February 2007 (EST)
If you want to stay within the reach of a guards help, go to the imperial city sewers, explore them for goblins/vampires etc, and if you run into trouble you can just head for the nearest exit and if they follow you they'll just get cut down by guards. 80.6.71.220 12:54, 28 December 2007 (EST)
[edit] Benirus Manor Deed
Anyone ever read the deed to the house? It said that you can change the name of the manor in the archives in the imperial city. Is this possible? -PeeKnuckle
- As far as I know, it isn't possible.--Ratwar 16:54, 25 February 2007 (EST)
It may be an easter egg. The person who found it (bleeding h3art) says this: "it also said something bout going to construction set in anvil first to get a copy of the name changing papers but if it cant be done that wont matter =)". Construction set? That'd make sense if he wanted to get the name of the house changed. -PeeKnuckle
- The full text of the deed is:
- This document hereby states that the bearer is the sole owner and possessor of the domicile currently known as Benirus Manor. Said domicile is located in the township known as Anvil in the territory known as Cyrodiil.
- The bearer has full ownership rights to all of the structures, flora and land within the property borders as defined in the Anvil Construction Charter. The bearer is responsible for all matters pertaining to or occurring on said property.
- This document also empowers the bearer transfer rights to reassign the property as he sees fit. The bearer may amend this document to rename the manor by submitting the proper forms and payments to the Anvil Construction Charter and by filing duplicate forms with the Documents Division of the Imperial City Archives.
- So it does talk about changing the manor's name, but references the "Construction Charter" not the "Construction Set". However, I can't see any other references to the deed or to this construction charter in the construction set, so I don't see any signs that anything can be done with it. --Nephele 02:42, 27 February 2007 (EST)
- I always assumed this was just a bit of in-game lore that's only there to lend a bit of realism to the environment, not a sign that you could actually do' this. From a technical standpoint I don't think it's possible to change the cell names of the house interior, "Benirus Manor" and "Benirus Manor Basement", especially not to a freely chosen name.
Thanks everyone. I thought that maybe it was for realism as well, until he replied back with the "construction set" part. It's been awhile since I've played that part of the game, and couldn't recall from memory, the exact details. Thanks also for titling my question. I didn't know how to do that, and tried to fit my question in somewhere. -PeeKnuckle
[edit] Lorgren
I am having in incredibly tough time killing Lorgren or even damaging him much. He always kills me in less than a minute. What am I missing here?
- If the suggestions in the article don't help, the only thing I can suggest is practice! It makes perfect, after all. --RpehTalk 09:19, 6 July 2007 (EDT)
Well, if you are having trouble defeating lorgren then logically think what is the best choice? My advice is to get a silence spell, even if you are not a mage you can still buy one and train to cast it. Or, there is another way, I realized that when you get close to him he uses his staff, so make him use all of the staffs charges (there aren't that many) then go and attack him face on, he will continue to try and use the staff even when it's all used up, just watch out for his summon. ;p - Arch_Mage
Lorgren has a spell that kills me in one hit. I've never ran into anything like this and I've killed Lorgren before (I just beat him again). Is this some sort of glitch? My health is around 270 and my willpower is maxed so this is a serious spell he casts. 68.166.64.134 17:22, 27 March 2008 (EDT)
- Any chance you're using Mehrunes Razor to attack him? If the dagger's spell is reflected back at you, you can die instantly. --NepheleTalk 21:09, 26 April 2008 (EDT)
iv bought the house but there are no ghosts, why? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.61.154.33 (talk • contribs).

[edit] Can't Get Round Bug
Hi,
As the bug suggests, the guy is waving his hands at the portal (for hours!) without opening it. I've tried their suggestions... charming him, waiting, fighting with him then yielding... but to no avail. Has anyone a suggestion for a definitive way of getting him to open the door?
Thanks! Dave.
- The "waiting for an hour" fix always worked for me. Just a thought - you know it means waiting with the "T" key (or whatever the non-PC equivalent is)? Just standing around won't do it. --RpehTalk 09:18, 6 July 2007 (EDT)
Thanks for the advice... had tried that way but no luck :( Anyone else, please?
I've tried all of these and pretty much every other spell I have to try and get him to snap out of waving his arms around and nothing has worked. I've waited normally and using 'T' for every possible length of time. Nothing works and I really want to finish this quest. Can anyone help?!?! - Trim 09/04/07
I have the exact same problem. I was forced to console-hack through it. Target the sealed door while the console is up and type activate. Afterwards, set the appropriate quest stage (setstage MS02 90) -TC
Just talk to him if he isnt opening it. or kill all the ghosts. then he should open it in a few seconds —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 59.100.137.198 (talk • contribs).
[edit] Lorgren's Hand
hey iam unable to fix Lorgren's hand i dont have his hand in my inventary how can i fix it —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 122.167.152.18 (talk • contribs).
- Have you tried looking for the Skeletal Hand in the location described in the walkthrough at Dark Secret? --NepheleTalk 16:50, 25 July 2007 (EDT)
HIS HAND!! HELP! I CAN'T FIND HIS HAND! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE IT IS?
- You should have picked it up when the quest first started. The article says "Head downstairs to the main floor to find that a jar has fallen from a cupboard (the jar only falls after you have defeated the ghosts upstairs.) The broken jar has spilled its contents onto the floor: a Skeletal Hand holding a Scrap from Lorgren's Diary." =) IWon'tFightUndead 18:37, 30 November 2007 (EST)

- It says in my quest log that i picked up the hand and the scrap from the diary, i can find the scrap in my inventory but i can find the hand! Does anyone have any ideas what i could do? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.159.81.105 (talk • contribs).
-
-
- You might want to re-read your quest log, because I'm quite sure it does not say that your picked up the hand; see the journal entry for quest stage 45. That quest update is prompted when you pick up the diary scrap; there is no recognition for picking up the skeletal hand. If you had picked up the Skeletal Hand it would still be in your inventory, since it is a quest item. Therefore it is very likely that the hand is right where you left it, on the main floor of the manor. --NepheleTalk 00:42, 26 December 2007 (EST)

[edit] Bug?
Moved from main article:
- I've encountered a problem with the game not not proceeding further after discovering you have ghosts, when you go back to see Velywn there is no message to advance the quest.
Before adding this to the main article, there really need to be more details. For example, have you found the "Scrap from Lorgren's Diary" and do you have it with you when you go to talk to Velwyn? Is Velwyn's disposition above 60? Where exactly are you in the quest (what was your last quest update), and have you done everything described in the walkthrough up to that point? What are the dialogue options that Velwyn provides? From the information provided it's not clear whether this is actually a bug or just a case of not doing all of the required tasks. --NepheleTalk 23:51, 22 October 2007 (EDT)
[edit] Lorgren a tribute to Vecna?
Lorgren, his skeletal hand, and the "Tome of Unlife" seem to be a tribute to Vecna, the Hand of Vecna, and the Book of Vile Darkness/Ordinary Necromancy (see Wikipedia:Vecna) --—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.111.79.90 (talk • contribs).
I disagree. The hand of Vecna is generally illustrated as a hand with flesh. Also we need an eye, don't we? PanzerFaust 88.243.0.189 14:55, 28 February 2008 (EST)
[edit] Velwyn won't come back!
Help! Velwyn is at the inn in Imperial City, and is at disposition 100 (no idea why) but won't come back to Anvil no matter what I say! Is this a glitch I can fix, or do I just have a crap manor now? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.175.167.79 (talk • contribs).
- What exatly does he say? Does he say that it's not his problem or that he feels guilty and will follow you, but he doesn't move? If you are on PC, you could probably use the console to fix it... Vesna 08:41, 28 December 2007 (EST)

- May I ask where this said 'diary scrap' is? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.174.84.174 (talk • contribs).
-
- It is possible he will not help you if you attack after he admits he sold you the manor under false pretences. He will stay in the Kings and Queens Tavern in the Imperial City and tell you the curse is your problem. Charm spells or raising his disposition to 100 won't fix this problem and Fast Travel out of the city and back doesn't work either. He just won't help you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dzmttsh (talk • contribs).
I moved this here from the main article because it sounds like another example of the exact same issue: the player must have the diary scrap otherwise Velwyn will refuse to help you. It's not a bug: it's the way the quest is supposed to work. --NepheleTalk 01:56, 24 January 2008 (EST)
-
- I have actually had this just happen to me. I don't know what caused it, as I certainly didn't attack him or anything, but he agreed to help me break the curse and told me to meet him in Anvil, and I saw him walk out the door of the Tavern. I fast-traveled there, and he was no where to be found. I just had an arrow telling me to meet him at the place in Anvil and he never showed up. I reloaded a save and asked him for help again and it worked fine. I don't know what happened. Can anyone explain this? Should a note be put in the article mentioned that this can happen?--Mikekearn 07:37, 24 February 2008 (EST)
-
-
- What you're describing is not the same as what the previous two players were reporting. The previous discussion was about Velwyn refusing to help; in your case Velwyn agreed to help you. And my guess is that in your case you simply did not wait long enough. It can take a long time for Velwyn to travel from one city to another, definitely much longer than it takes for you to fast-travel. That fact is already stated in the article. --NepheleTalk 14:29, 24 February 2008 (EST)

[edit] Velwyn's Location
- (question moved from incorrect user talk page)
In your quest walkthrough for elder scrolls IV oblivion you have made mistake with "where spirits have lease" You have said that Velwyn is still in transit if hes not at the counts arms. This is false. You can simply find him upstairs in the room on the left. It is a hard door to lockpick. The map marker tells other wise- but trust me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.39.206.240 (talk • contribs).
[edit] No ghosts, Creepy house?
I'm a HUGE fan of role-playing in Oblivion and this house is right up my current characters dark and twisted alley. (Witch serial killer.) Is there a way to keep this house creepy without having to worry about the ghosts? I'm thinking that maybe after completing stage 90 of the quest that the ghosts will not spawn, or if they do they will be passive, and I will be able to maintain the house in a state of creepiness.
Stage 90 says " Velwyn successfully opened the door to the secret room, which has stopped the ghosts from attacking. He then ran off, leaving me to clean up the mess. It's up to me, and me alone, to investigate what's beyond the mysterious portal."
Does anyone know if my plan will work? If it does I will confirm it for anyone else who may want to have a creepy house.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Baba (talk • contribs).
- If it doesn't work, you or somebody else could make a mod for it (assuming you have the PC version). Michaeldsuarez

Great news for people that want a creepy house on the console version of Oblivion! Once the "portal" is open and stage 90 is complete if you do not complete the quest, ghosts will not spawn, even if you sleep in the house and or leave it and come back in! I'm glad to confirm my previous idea! Good luck to all my other fellow Role-players!
-Baba
- Or If you want to keeep the ghost you cands use the console command
player.setfactionrank 0009db1f 1to add yourself to the undead faction, after which the ghosts will stop attacking. This will also mean you can ressurect Lorgren Benirus and he might not attack. --Volanaro 05:02, 12 April 2008 (EDT)

- I don't want to level-up my character. Any console command alternative to sleeping so I wont go up a level?
-
-
- No console command required. You can stop where you are and press T, then specify the number of hours you want to rest. This allows you to rest and heal without actually sleeping.
- I think you have to sleep in a bed/bedroll to advance the quest. Look at the quest page and look at the second list of notes. There you will find the console command to advance the quest to wherever you want to.Bambobo 17:21, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
