Where's the "unpatrol" button?[edit]

Sorry, I patrolled this before cluing in that your attention was asked for, so I should've left it for you to patrol. :/ Robin Hoodtalk 02:51, 10 November 2012 (GMT)

We really do need that button, don't we? :D
Anyway, thanks for the heads-up! I'll take a look at it now. eshetalk 03:21, 11 November 2012 (GMT)

Mentor?[edit]

I am a dedicated Elder Scrolls geek, and I would really like to help out here...but there is much to learn and I am...shall we say...less than proficient? in layout andcode. I have need of a mentor so I can be of use. Will you be my wise and patient friend? :) Crayolamanic (talk) 00:53, 11 November 2012 (GMT)Crayolamanic

Absolutely! We all have to start somewhere, right? The links ABCface left on your userpage will lead you to a pretty comprehensive listing of all our how-to type stuff. The Quick Editing Guide may be particularly helpful if you're brand new to wiki editing. Of course, I generally find the best way to learn is to just dive in :). Building your userpage is a good place to try out new tricks, or you could always practice in the Sandbox, which has a few examples of basic wiki code in place for you to play around with.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! I live in the US so I'm usually most available from 8:00-4:00 CST (GMT-6) on weekdays, but if you ever have a question outside that time, feel free to shoot me an email. My cell is pretty much always nearby, so chances are pretty good I'll be able to get back to you quickly. Have fun! eshetalk 03:21, 11 November 2012 (GMT)
YAY! Thanks! *^_^* Crayolamanic (talk) 04:32, 15 November 2012 (GMT)

Guard Archive[edit]

Hey Eshe. Quick question: ‎‎DayDreamer just moved Skyrim:Guard and its corresponding talk page to Skyrim:Guard Dialogue. Should the talk page's archive "[[Skyrim talk:Guard/Archive 1]]" be moved as well? I'm not really sure what to do and I've no idea on the policy behind archives. If it shouldn't be moved, then we'll just leave it, but if it should, then please do move it. Thanks! ~ Psylocke 14:38, 16 November 2012 (GMT)

Yeah, I would think so. I just went ahead and moved it...it's hard to keep track of those guard pages right now anyway, but I figure ought to go with the talk page it came from ;). Thanks for the heads-up! eshetalk 14:50, 16 November 2012 (GMT)

PSP Prefix[edit]

Hey Eshe. For consistency's sake, I've moved this image back to "PSP-", which is the prefix used for other PSP images. —Legoless (talk) 21:05, 5 December 2012 (GMT)

Oh, right on—good call :D. Since other cover images have the game title in them now, though, I think it should be called PSP-cover-Oblivion (PSP) Box Art.jpg. Is that cool? eshetalk 21:09, 5 December 2012 (GMT)
Go for it, no problems there. I just thought it sounded a bit repetitive. —Legoless (talk) 21:10, 5 December 2012 (GMT)

Frost (horse)[edit]

hello eshe, i wud like to add frost horse page. But i dont know how to do that. Can you help? Or can u add those i give? — Unsigned comment by Jackman008 (talkcontribs) at 06:08 on 8 December 2012‎

The page for Frost the horse already exists here, so another page with the suffix (horse) is unneeded. — ABCface 14:22, 8 December 2012 (GMT)
Thanks for grabbing that, ABC! I've been knocked down and dragged out by this cold for the last week or so...ugh. Anyway, thanks! eshetalk 17:28, 11 December 2012 (GMT)

Help :D[edit]

Hey Eshe! Since you're around now, doing what you do best, I thought I'd bring up two issues to you. First, can you help out with this? Secondly, I realised you created some NPC levels categories. When I created this category, I didn't add the cat page template because it seems there is some error on Skyrim's equivalent. Can you fix it? ~ Psylocke 17:16, 11 December 2012 (GMT)

Yeah, I noticed that thing on the Skyrim category too, but decided to walk away and get some caffeine in my system first. I'm not sure what I can do, but I'll whack it with my magic wand and see if I can make it work :). I'll make a run through the Soul Gem links too, whenever I'm done with / give up on that :D. eshetalk 17:28, 11 December 2012 (GMT)
Okay, seems like the problem on the DB category was that all the subcategories were using a three-digit sort (005 instead of 05), which was confusing the category and making it sort everything under "0". Fixing that seemed to work for the DB category. I did them like that because I copied the Skyrim level 10 NPCs category to make them, and that page has three-digit sorts because a couple NPCs in Skyrim actually are level 100 and up (whoa!). Fortunately I was able to just copy over the code from the Oblivion category and tweak it for the three-digit thing and that seems to have worked too. Not really sure why, but there ya go! :D. Whee! eshetalk 17:59, 11 December 2012 (GMT)
Nice! That magic wand of yours must have quite an awesome enchantment; I could use one of those. Mine's broken - I ran out of soul gems :) ~ Psylocke 18:07, 11 December 2012 (GMT)
I just tweaked the original logic so that it works as intended. The issue with the logic you put in (Elliot's old version, I think?) is that you have to account for every possible level grouping there could be. This way just does it mathematically, but if something like the sortkey of " " doesn't compute, it will no longer try, which is what was giving the error. Table Help[edit]

Just wandering around the site, I noticed the People table on the page for Morrowind:Abanabi is messed up. How do I fix that? LoveWaffle (talk) 22:16, 17 December 2012 (GMT)

That's just a caching issue. Draramu Hloran was edited very recently. Once the database catches up it will be alright. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:22, 17 December 2012 (GMT)
(edit conflict) I'm not sure what kind of issue you're seeing, but it is likely a caching issue. I'm seeing an odd issue with the borders in the second column, though...not sure if that's the cache as well or some other problem. I guess we'll give it a little while and see...eshetalk 22:27, 17 December 2012 (GMT)
It appears Silence was correct in this. I guess I just caught the page at a bad time. LoveWaffle (talk) 23:37, 17 December 2012 (GMT)
Eshe: What's the border issue you're seeing, and what browser are you using? I tried a couple and they all looked fine, but if I can replicate the problem, I'll see if there's a way around it. Robin Hoodtalk 04:55, 18 December 2012 (GMT)
Oh, crap, I meant to answer this earlier and totally forgot :D. I'm seeing an issue with the bottom border on the cells in the second columns for tables like this. It sort of looked like the bottom borders were bumped up a row, so some of them were too thick and the bottom one was too thin.
That probably doesn't make much sense, but I'm not seeing it on my work computer, and unfortunately my netbook is at home, so it'll take a bit longer for me to get you a screenshot ;). It was on Chrome, but I'm not sure which version. I think I'm up to date? I'll let you know :). eshetalk 20:54, 18 December 2012 (GMT)
Yeah, that's a Chrome issue that started appearing maybe about 3 or 4 months ago. There's also some kind of issue with cells that have extra blank lines in them, but off-hand, I don't remember the specifics...I just remember something looks terribly wrong...or maybe it's even the same/related issue. I'm not seeing it on the Abanabi page, but I do see it on Skyrim:Daedra...only if I edit the "Standard" section, though, not when viewing/editing the entire page. Gotta love the randomness of bugs. Need Help And Other Problems[edit]

Two things.

1. I wanted to create an account on here, and so far, no matter what I do, my laptop has been unable to show any type of C aptcha (I can't even type the word solidly cause this site thinks it's Link spamming for some reason...

2. Hence the second thing. I was just trying to type up this very topic in the right thread, yet the word that starts with the c wasn't allowed...

I just want to create an account on here, and would like some help please! I would also like to know what words are allowed that aren't even cuss words. 68.186.70.46 20:29, 27 December 2012 (GMT)

I also have a problem: there's a username I want to use here, but it's taken, and the account doesn't seem active in the slightest. 71.53.201.34 20:47, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
I looked at your attempted post 68.186, and can't discern the reason, so I asked the creator to have a look. Do you have any adblockers in use, I had a few that affected some sites adversely, perhaps if you disable all of them and then see if you can create the account.
In regards the username 71.53, sorry, but we don't delete user accounts. Many are used to simply avoid the widespread caching issue that affects non-logged in users, so this user may very well be using the site every day, just not for editing. I myself wanted a different name, but have become accustomed to this one, so you'll have to choose again, or add something to the name that differentiates your's from their's. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:04, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
Nope... doesn't work either. It's never done this before. You think it could have something to do with whoever was working on revamping the C aptch when they got out with this Re-C aptcha thing? 68.186.70.46 21:15, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
No idea, all I meant was that I contacted the person who understands our spam filters the best. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:31, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
Thank you though, I'll just have to put a name at the end of my comments XD. Kiki 68.186.70.46 21:43, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
I have no idea why the word "Captcha" would trigger a warning (though I can certainly see that you got one). I just tried it while logged out and had no problems at all. Was there anything else you were trying to do at the same time, or was it clearly that word and only that word? Robin Hood  (talk) 22:21, 27 December 2012 (GMT)

() Just got an email back from Jak, it was checking the whole of this page for spam words, and there is a discussion above that uses some of the words. It should be fixed now. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:36, 27 December 2012 (GMT)

Heh, that's good. Thank you for the help. And I'll try to look more into why the Captcha isn't showing up in the registrar page. Kiki 68.186.70.46 22:45, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
Gah...just figured that out myself and came back only to find he'd beaten me to it! :) Robin Hood  (talk) 22:46, 27 December 2012 (GMT)

() As far as your initial problem goes, I don't really know why a Captcha wouldn't show. Unless anyone can see a problem with this plan, I think the best idea might be for someone (I'll volunteer) to create the account for Kiki and coordinate passwords privately. Kiki: in order to do that, you'd have to e-mail me so I can send you the password I use, then you can log in and change the password to whatever you want afterwards. Robin Hood  (talk) 22:54, 27 December 2012 (GMT)

Nope, you need an account for e-mail. Maybe come to the IRC channel and converse privately with someone. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:57, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
OK, Eshe, me and Silencer got everything worked out! Don't know how else i can repay you guys, other than just being helpful myself here!!!
Thank you for everything!!! *hugs* *and gives you a Fishy Stick ^o^* BlackLeaf (talk) 23:19, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
I never realized that anons can't e-mail. If I had, I would've given out my public e-mail address rather than a link. Oh well, glad to hear you managed to get everything worked out in the end! Robin Hood  (talk) 23:23, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
No problem Robin, we can't all know everything :P, and liking the new signature. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 23:25, 27 December 2012 (GMT)

Username[edit]

Hello,

There is a username I want to use here at UESP, but it's taken, and the account doesn't seem to be active in the slightest. Any suggestions? 71.53.201.34 21:36, 28 December 2012 (GMT)

Oof, that sucks. Unfortunately, I'm not able to do anything about it. The only one who might possibly have the capability to help you out would be Daveh, the site owner, but I'm not really sure how much the wiki software allows him to tinker with usernames once they've been registered by someone else. You could always ask Daveh, but the quickest route would probably be to just pick a different username. Sorry! eshetalk 22:22, 28 December 2012 (GMT)
You probably missed it in the longer discussion above, but Silencer brought up a very good point as to why we can't touch usernames: "In regards the username 71.53, sorry, but we don't delete user accounts. Many are used to simply avoid the widespread caching issue that affects non-logged in users, so this user may very well be using the site every day, just not for editing. I myself wanted a different name, but have become accustomed to this one, so you'll have to choose again, or add something to the name that differentiates your's from their's."
