Chorrol is a medium-sized town in northwestern Cyrodiil, between the Great Forest of west Cyrodiil and the Colovian Highlands of the Hammerfell border.

[edit] The City of Chorrol

Chorrol is divided into five main districts: Fountain Gate, Castle Chorrol, Chapel Street, West District and the Great Oak Place. Situated in the rugged highlands of Colovia, the city's grounds are strewn with large boulders that set the mountainous mood of the city as much as they serve as obstacles to pedestrians. The walls are well-fortified in anticipation against attack, with watchtowers placed at regular intervals along its length. The current ruler of Chorrol is Countess Arriana Valga, widow of the hereditary Count of Chorrol.

[edit] Fountain Gate

The southern gate is the main entry point to Chorrol, its most distinguishing feature being a large statue depicting the Saint of Sancre Tor. Though described as a fountain by guides and residents, at some point in time its waters were stopped and the basin filled in with earth. Chorrol's smithy and its two inns, the simple Grey Mare and the stately Oak & Crosier, are found in this district. Fountain Gate serves as the nexus from which all other districts can be accessed.

[edit] Castle Chorrol

The seat of power in Chorrol is a large ringed castle which stands on a slope northeast of Fountain Gate. Fortified by its own set of watchtowers and wall, the castle is garrisoned by a large barracks on the south end that also houses prisoners in its dungeons.

[edit] Chapel Street

Running west by northwest of Fountain Gate, the main street leading toward the Chapel of Stendarr serves as a market district, with general goods and books offered from stores lining the street. The Chapel's graveyard lies northwest, near the city's northwestern walls.

[edit] West Chorrol

South of the Chapel is the main residential neighborhood of Chorrol, with stately homes adjoining the street near the chapel while the city's more humble abodes circle the well set in the southwest section of Chorrol.

[edit] Great Oak Place

Moving directly north and up the slope to Chorrol's northern gate, the finest of Chorrol's homes share space with the Mages Guild hall and Chorrol's most defining feature: the Great Oak. The Great Oak is set in the center of a large plaza which all other structures in the district circle around, and here the residents of Chorrol gather to converse and share news of the day. Directly north of the oak, near the North Gate, sits the headquarters of the Fighters Guild in Cyrodiil, where the Guildmaster and Champion recruit members and assign duties to all other Guild chapters in the province.

[edit] County Chorrol

Situated in the mountainous region of northern Colovia at the junction of the Black and Orange Roads, the countryside surrounding Chorrol is dotted with the remnants of war and conquest. Ruined forts dominate much of the landscape that once served as a line of defense against forces from the north, and the legendary ruins of Sancre Tor lie northeast of city in the foothills of the Jerall Mountains. Between Chorrol and the Imperial City eastwards, the Great Forest stands tall like a bulwark between the Colovian Highlands and Lake Rumare.
