Atatar is a large Ayleid ruin between Bravil and Leyawiin containing bandits (quest-related). [edit] It contains four zones: Atatar, Atatar Haelia Dagon, Atatar Haelia Anga, and Atatar Loria.
Related Quests
- Azani Blackheart: Help Modryn prove that the Blackwood Company lied about completing a contract to kill Azani Blackheart.
Notes
- The switch needed to obtain the 3 Varla Stones in 'Atar Haelia Dagon' is accessible only by continuing through the rest of the ruins, through both 'Atar Haelia Dagon' and 'Atar Haelia Anga' along the raised walkways in the center of both rooms almost all the way to Azani, then taking the enclosed catwalk sections to the north of both sections all the way back to 'Atar Haelia Dagon' and the locked room.
- Possible bug: Some players have experienced a bug in the only hallway in Atatar Loria, where there is water on the floor. When one is walking in the center, one can possibly "fall through the floor" and get trapped. The only solution is to reload a previous save game (unless you are playing on a PC, in which case you can use the
tclConsole command to walk out). - If not on the 'Azani Blackheart' quest, Azani will not appear here, and the Boss Chest will be unguarded.
Exterior
- The exterior is located at coordinates: Tamriel 30, -21
- This location's map marker (M on map) is named Atatar (editor name AtatarMapMarker). The entrance door is N of the marker, 110 feet away.
- The following plants can be found near the entrance: 8 Clouded Funnel Cap plants
Zone 1: Atatar
This is the first zone of Atatar, and the most straightforward.
- After descending the first staircase and entering the first tunnel, watch out for the swinging blade traps! They are grouped in two sets of 2, as seen on the map at T, so one can pass the first two, wait, and then pass the second two.
- Unless your speed is very high, it is recommended to pass only one blade at a time.
- Upon passing the traps, you will arrive at a 3-way intersection. Opening the gate and going straight makes the most immediate sense, as it lets you take out an archer Bandit who will otherwise hit you with arrows from above later on.
- After the archer is dealt with, turn around and head back into the intersection. With the blades facing you, take a right and follow the tunnel straight to the wall to find the zone's only chest. Refer to the map if you have trouble locating it.
- Proceed down either ramp (it doesn't matter which one; they both lead into the same chamber) and down into the large chamber, where a melee Bandit will be waiting on top of the southwestern stairs.
- Continue up the stairs into the next rectangular chamber, where a final melee Bandit will be loitering. The entrance to the next zone will be just beyond him.
Occupants:
- 1 archer Bandit
- 2 melee Bandits
Treasure:
- 1 Chest 01 (locked)
Traps:
- 4 Swinging Blade traps at locations T on map
Doors and Gates:
- There are two doors in/out of this zone
- 1 door (at Out) leads outside
- 1 door (at C) leads to the zone Atatar Haelia Dagon
Zone 2: Atatar Haelia Dagon
This is the second zone of Atatar; it contains all of the Varla stones and the sole Welkynd stone.
- Immediately upon entering (at door C), there will be a melee Bandit under or around the archway directly ahead. It is advisable to pull him to you with ranged attacks or spells, as charging him may alert one of his friends lurking further ahead on the right side of the chamber.
- Also, you will notice immediately to the left and right are two Varla stone cages. We will worry about these later on, as they cannot be raised from this zone.
- If killing the first Bandit did not attract his friend as well, take him out now.
- There will be one final Bandit in the southwestern part of this chamber, generally near a raised iron gate in the southernmost corner of the chamber.
- After dealing with all three Bandits, explore the chamber. You should find one chest in approximately the center of the chamber, where the first Bandit stood, and one Welkynd stone on a pillar along the southeastern wall, as well as a third lowered Varla stone cage.
- There are two raised iron gates. The one in the eastern corner (labeled K) is not lowerable from this position, but the one in the southern corner (labeled L) is controlled by a switch located behind the nearby gate. Lower it now.
- The hallways will lead to the only way to move forward, crossing a bridge. This bridge is heavily trapped. Not only are there three falling blade traps, marked at J, but at I the bridge will crumble away - basically the area underneath the first falling blade.
- If you manage to pass these traps successfully, a door to the ruin's third zone (labeled E) is at the end of it.
- If, however, you fall off the bridge, be aware that two nuisance creatures lie in wait on the lower level. There is also a chest down here, along the southeast wall where it intersects the bridge. Proceed into the third zone through the door on this level (labeled F).
Occupants:
- 3 melee Bandits
- 2 Nuisance Animals
Treasure:
- 3 Varla Stones (all in Varla Stone Cages) at locations V on map
- 1 Chest 01 (locked)
- 1 Chest 02
- 1 Welkynd Stone
Traps:
- 1 Crumbling Bridge trap at location I on map
- 3 Falling Blade traps at J
Doors and Gates:
- There are four doors in/out of this zone
- 1 door (at C) leads to the zone Atatar
- 3 doors (at D, E, and F) lead to the zone Atatar Haelia Anga
- 2 Iron Gates (opened remotely) at K and L
Zone 3: Atatar Haelia Anga
This is the third zone of the ruin. It contains the most doors and the most enemies.
- If entering from door E, on top of the bridge, use the following instructions.
- Continue across the bridge until you come to a raised iron gate (labeled I). The switch is right next to the gate.
- Upon entering the next chamber, melee characters will have a tough fight on their hands. Two Hedge Wizards will be to your right, and one melee Bandit will be guarding the door on the left side of the chamber. Ideally, you should be able to sneak over to one side or the other and deal with that part of the room, so you are not forced to fight three Bandits at once.
- Once all the Bandits are dead, be sure to loot the two chests in the room - one is located where the Hedge Wizards stood, and the other is right next to the door into the fourth zone, where the melee Bandit was.
- Proceed into the fourth zone via the door labeled G.
- If entering from door F, use the following instructions.
- You will enter on the lower level of the room. There will be two nuisance creatures (likely Rats) in this chamber. Search them out and end them.
- Proceed into the hallway along the southwest wall, opening the gate and taking care of the two nuisance creatures within.
- Upon ascending to the top of the stairs, take a right at the T intersection. Walking down the hallway you will likely attract the attention of the two Hedge Wizards below. You may jump down and engage them if you wish, or you could continue down the hallway. Refer to the above section for strategy on the fight if you do decide to jump down.
- Otherwise, continue down the hallway, going straight when you come to the intersection.
- At the bottom of the stairs there might be one more nuisance animal. Enter the fourth zone through the door labeled H.
Occupants:
- 2 Bandit Hedge Wizards
- 1 melee Bandit
- 4-5 Nuisance Animals
Treasure:
Doors and Gates:
- There are five doors in/out of this zone
- 3 doors (at D, E, and F) lead to the zone Atatar Haelia Dagon
- 2 doors (at G and H) lead to the zone Atatar Loria
- 1 Iron Gate (opened remotely) at I
Zone 4: Atatar Loria
This is the fourth and final zone of the ruin. It contains Azani, the boss, his boss chest, and quite a bit of other loot. Much of the zone is knee-deep in water.
- If entering from the door labeled G, use the following instructions.
- Azani will likely spot you immediately upon entering and attack. Refer to the 'Azani Blackheart' quest for more information.
- NOTE: If not on the 'Azani Blackheart' quest, Azani will not appear here, and the boss chest in the middle of the room is yours for the taking.
- Loot the Boss Chest in the middle of the chamber, and proceed into the hallway on the eastern side of the room.
- There is a lot of loot in the next small chamber, be sure to grab it all. Refer to the Treasure section to be sure you've gotten all of it.
- Venture southwest into the flooded hallway, killing the three nuisance creatures along the way.
- Upon reaching the doorway back to the third zone, there is little reason to continue. The only things you've missed along this route are a handful of nuisance creatures and one chest. For completists, follow the instructions under 'entering from door F' in reverse until you get back to the second zone; the chest will be just inside the second zone on your right.
- In any case, head back into the third zone through door G, and take an immediate right upon entering. You want to exit this zone at door D.
- Back in the second zone, continue down the long hallway, hit the switch at the end of it, and proceed into the large chamber with the Varla stones through the now-lowered gate.
- Grab all three Varla stones, and you're done! Exit through door C, and leave the ruin.
- If entering from the door labeled H, use the following instructions.
- Descend into the knee-deep water, and proceed down the hallway, killing the three nuisance creatures.
- If not on the 'Azani Blackheart' quest, take your time looting the chests and bookshelves at the end of the hallway. Otherwise, hurry into the rectangular chamber and take Azani out!
- Be sure to loot the Boss Chest in the rectangular chamber.
- Exit back into the third zone through door G when you're ready - but be sure to enter sneak mode first.
- Immediately upon entering the third zone again, a melee Bandit will be directly in front of you. If his back is to you, use the opportunity for the free sneak attack. Otherwise, take him out normally.
- Loot the chest on your left, and continue straight into the room until you run into the two Hedge Wizards you saw earlier. Take them out by any means necessary, and loot the chest on the pedestal.
- You may run into gate I and wonder how it is opened; the switch is on the other side of the gate, and is reachable only by not falling off the bridge in the second zone.
- When ready, travel to the northern part of the map, and follow the hallway to door D.
- Back in the second zone, continue down the long hallway, hit the switch at the end of it, and proceed into the large chamber with the Varla stones through the now-lowered gate.
- Grab all three Varla stones, and you're done! Exit through door C, and leave the ruin.
