The Thieves Guild is an organization for the gathering and training of those stealthy and shadowy in nature. Although criminal by its very definition, the local authorities often tolerate the existence of the guild as its presence often greatly decreases, if not eliminates, the more unstable or dangerous criminals.

Like any trade guild, the Thieves Guild is an organization of professionals, except that in this case the professionals are thieves, robbers, pickpockets, smugglers, and other enterprising operators. They don't have public guild halls, but in large towns they do tend to gather at a single location, such as a cornerclub, inn, or tradehouse.

[edit] Daggerfall

The Thieves Guild in Daggerfall was a highly powerful organization with guildhalls scattered throughout the Iliac Bay. The guild fights to keep its reputation as the best thieves in the Empire, and most of the quests involve killing freelance thieves or helping fellow members.

[edit] Morrowind

In Morrowind, the Thieves Guild is a fledgling organization. It is beset by a powerful crime organization called the Camonna Tong and the Fighter's Guild. In Morrowind, the player will protect the Thieves Guild and raise its reputation in the eyes of commoners.

[edit] Oblivion

Oblivion's Thieves Guild is considered a myth by most people. However, it is led by a shady figure known only as the Gray Fox. The storyline has you protect the Thieves Guild's interests in Cyrodiil and help the Gray Fox remove a curse that he is stricken with.
