Azura's Star
| Type | Soul Gem | ||
| Statistics | |||
| 2 | 5,000 (empty) | ||
Azura's Star is a boon given to a champion by the goddess Azura.
A reusable soul gem, Azura's Star is filled with a soul and emptied thereof by the usual method. It can be reused an unlimited number of times; however, it still says "You failed to make an enchanted item" and then "Your soul gem broke" when you fail enchanting.
To acquire it, find the Shrine of Azura on the southeast shore of Vvardenfell (its location is shown on the game map). See Azura's Quest for more information.
Notes
- Azura's Star may be taken away from you during various quests that require you to find soulgems. If this happens you will lose it permanently, and you will not be able to get it back (even by pickpocketing or killing the person who took it). To be safe, you should avoid having Azura's Star in your inventory during any quests involving soulgems.
- There is another "Azura's Star" listed in the Construction Set, ID:
azura_star_unique. This one is not a soul gem, but a throwing weapon instead. This version is a unique item never seen in-game, with a 1-5 damage rating and no enchantment. - Azura's Star is the only soul gem that can capture the Divine souls of Vivec and Almalexia (in Tribunal).
- Azura's Star also appears in Daggerfall and Oblivion, with the same properties.
Bittercup
| Type | Other | ||
| Statistics | |||
| 10 | 100,000 | ||
The Bittercup is an artifact attributed to the Daedric prince Clavicus Vile whose sphere is the granting of power and wishes through ritual invocations and pacts.
A special item that will ask you if you wish to drink from it or pick it up when you activate it. If you choose to drink, the cup will disappear and you may not be able to complete some of the Thieves Guild Quests. Part of the last few Thieves Guild quests, see The Bitter Cup quest for more information. You need not decide right away, as the question will pop up again when you remove the cup from your inventory and activate it again.
Drinking from the Bittercup will increase your highest attribute by 20 points and decrease your lowest attribute by 20 points, permanently. If your highest attribute is above 80, it will not be raised higher than 100, and your lowest will still be reduced by the full 20 points. However, it is possible to control which attributes are affected with fortifying/draining effects, though it's still not possible to raise an attribute above 100.
Something to note is that the minimum and maximum attributes are checked linearly, in the same order that they appear on the stats menu. Therefore, if you have several minimum/maximum attributes the game will always choose the first one(s).
Notes
- The name of the artifact is spelled as one word, Bittercup, but is referred to as the Bitter Cup everywhere else, including the dialogue that asks if you want to drink from it.
- Another copy of the Bittercup can be found in the ToddTest test cell.
The Skeleton Key
| Type | Lockpick | ||
| Statistics | |||
| 0.5 | 1,000 | ||
| Uses | 50 | Quality | 5.0 |
The Skeleton Key is a high quality lockpick with 50 uses which should open every door in the game.
Can be obtained by a high ranking quest with the Thieves Guild Master Thief, Gentleman Jim Stacey in Vivec, Foreign Quarter Canalworks. See the Kill Hard-Heart quest for more information. If you are not a member of the Thieves Guild you may also acquire the key by killing Jim Stacey, though you cannot get it by pickpocketing him.
Notes
- The Skeleton Key also appears in Arena, Daggerfall, and Oblivion, though its function is not the same in the other games.
- The Skeleton Key is an extremely high quality lockpick rather than an actual key.
- For more on Skeleton Keys outside games, see this article on Wikipedia.
