Entrance to Darkfall Cave

Darkfall Cave is a cave located just southwest of the Orc stronghold Mor Khazgur.

Inside Darkfall Cave

This cave system is extremely dark, so be sure to bring some source of light if you don't have a form of night vision.

After crossing a ledge that skirts a deep pool of water, then battling a frostbite spider in a small alcove that holds an egg sac, you will come to a rope bridge across a fast moving underground river. The bridge will creak ominously as you step across it, but will hold up long enough to provide access to the two moonstone ore deposits on the other side, which can be mined with a pickaxe lying on a table nearby.

Attempting to step across the bridge again, however, will result in it collapsing and dropping you into the river, where you will be swept rapidly downstream. (Note that Whirlwind Sprint will get you back across if you want to mine the moonstone and not explore the rest of the cave.) You will be forced underwater several times during your ride, but never long enough to put you in danger of drowning. Eventually, you will drop over one last short waterfall and be deposited onto a rocky stream bed occupied by numerous frostbite spiders, who will immediately move to attack you. Fight or sneak your way through these creatures, and continue on through the dark, twisting passages.

Eventually, you will find an abandoned campfire next to a bedroll, a chest, and a crude table with a satchel atop it. If you look behind a nearby lean-to containing another bedroll, you will discover a pull-chain. Activating it reveals a shortcut which bypasses the next cavern. If you head up the western tunnel, you will come to a dead-end with a pull chain on the wall. Activating the pull chain will provide access back to the small alcove that housed the first frostbite spider you encountered, and allow you to head back to the surface.

Instead, head down the steep eastern passage, watching out for a tripwire that will release several boulders onto your head. Continuing on, you will arrive in a large, open, partially-flooded chamber. Three trolls are stationed about the chamber; the one located in the northeast corner guards the bloody remains of some hapless adventurer and an unlocked chest.

The western end of this cavern leads you to the last chamber where, prior to beginning Touching the Sky, two trolls reside. If you have started the quest however, Knight-Paladin Gelebor can be found here wandering around his crude camp, which consists of an unowned bedroll, a lean-to covering a rough shelf holding clutter, and a Shrine of Auriel. A few tufts of hanging moss can be harvested from roots protruding from the cavern ceiling. Two nearby piles of intermingled brush and bones attest to Gelebor's grim duty, but contain nothing of value.
