[edit] Voice of the Sky

Reading all ten Emblems (in order?) on the way up appears to give you the blessing "Voice of the Sky", which prevents animals from either attacking or fleeing from you for 24h. 124.170.15.129 07:18, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Not sure if it's necessary to do this in order as I've received it without doing all emblems in order. However, see below for my experience with VotS.24.84.133.137 02:33, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
Any order should do; I've done it missing a few in between, but not sure if VotS is only activated when reading the last one (Emblem X).WalB 16:25, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
This appears to be 24 real hours when compared with other active spell effects, but after receiving VotS it was listed as 23 (ostensibly due to the countdown timer already rolling over the first second of 24 hours). Further, it appeared to wear off incredibly quickly after my descent of the Throat of the World. It neither wore off in 24 game hours, nor 24 real hours; it seemed to wear off after about a half an hour real-time (I can't be sure exactly how long as I didn't notice when it no longer was active. It does not seem to last as described. 24.84.133.137 02:31, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Glitch with demonstration targets

So I encountered this glitch. When the greybeards step up and summon the targets, the effects are shown but the target doesn't actually appear. I figured out that in order for them to appear, just wait for the blue effect to appear then just go to the menu. The target will then appear.

I edited this into the article Askew 10:31, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Path is Leveled?

It would appear the encounters of animals on the journey up to the greybeards are leveled. When going up the 7,000 steps, my level 26 found a snow bear, snow wraith, and troll instead of wolves.

WaneStars 04:32, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

At earliest, I've encountered a frost troll at ~6. I had to flee. I think that's not a very balanced encounter for one of the earlier main quests.-Zydrate[][] 19:03, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
I have also encountered frost wraiths and a troll at a level below ten, but while they were difficult to kill, I doubt their level was much higher than mine. --Velyanthe 17:49, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
The path is leveled. At level 36 I encountered two Snow Bears, a Cave Bear and a Troll about halfway down from the point where the mandatory troll is. This wouldn't really be much of a problem, since I'm a stealthy assassin-esque character with the second level of Marked for Death unlocked, but they were very close together. There were no wolves. Strangely, the pilgrims seemed completely unharmed until I killed them.Snowskeeper: Till Hell Freezes Over 02:38, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Quest stages

Upon entering the temple, I was at MQ105.20, not 1. After demonstrating Unrelenting Force I was at 56. Before learning "Ro" I was at 60. After getting "Ro" off the floor, I was at 70. After Master Einarth "allowed me to tap into his understanding of 'Ro'" I was at 76. When the "Demonstrate, 0/3" floating text appeared, I advanced to stage 80. When the first target appeared, the stage advanced to 85. The stage did not advance again until I accomplished (3/3) demonstrations, when the stage became 90. Arngeir told me to follow Master Borri, and the stage advanced to 100. Borri walked outside but the others didn't, and the quest stalled until I went back inside and talked to Arngeir, then Arngeir and the other masters walked outside. Stage was still 100, but Arngeir, Einarth, and Wulfgar finished shuffling into position, Borri spoke Wuld and the stage hit 103; Wuld appeared on the stones and the stage advanced to 105. I learned Wuld, stage 110; "tapped" Borri, stage 115. Once the floating text arrived instructing me to demonstrate Wuld, the stage was 120. I think when Borri "Bex"es the gate it goes to 125 and when Wulfgar Whirlwind Sprints through it it advances to 127. Sprinted through the gate, got floating text "Speak to Arngeir for further traininer" and hit stage 140.

I don't know how much of that needs to go into the article - and the frequency of 5s, 6s, 7s, etc, in the numbers I pulled makes me wonder how many mid-stages I might've missed by not checking getstage more often - but the demarcation of "done by stage 25" might mislead some people. [edit] Wuld Exploit

Is this known to work with any other words people give you? --Debatra 00:39, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Only Paarthunax gives you another word, and it seems to work with him, though not quite correctly. However if you have Wuld and have it souled already, Arngeir has unique dialogue for that event. — Unsigned comment by 184.63.101.192 (talk) at 00:12 on 14 February 2012
Tried it with Unrelenting Force. Doesn't work.
Another thing to be noted is that if you DO use the Wuld exploit, the next time you encounter a word wall containing one of the wuld words you won't learn the next word. You'll still be forced to find the last one to get the whole phrase. Same goes with Fire breath (the one Parthunaax teaches you) — Unsigned comment by 96.41.225.122 (talk) at 14:51 on 23 May 2012

[edit] gate

the gate that u have to whirlwind sprint through befor it closes is it possible to use slow time to get through as well?86.164.254.29 18:56, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Quite possible, my Altemer just sprinted through without using any shout and the quest progressed normally. --Zar Pof 17:31, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
So long as you get through the gate. I don't think the first two stages of Slow Time boost your speed enough to pass through in time (unless you could do it naturally, of course...)Snowskeeper: Till Hell Freezes Over 02:43, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Quest Image

I have replaced the quest image. It's not a perfect photo, but I can't figure out how to brighten it without losing contrast on the Dragon word. The previous photo is really high-quality, beautiful really, and it certainly belongs somewhere. I am not sure which I think is better, but I went ahead and did it this way. If anyone has advice, like reverting and then renaming my photo (or just reverting), please tell me what you would do, (e.g., what name to give it), or just do it. --Jreynolds2Talk E-mail 03:27, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Bug - verification needed

Copied from article:

If you leave High Hrothgar after being presented the word Ro, but before learning (absorbing) the word on the floor... the game in some cases may not let you learn the word when you return. This can also happen in very rare cases even if you do not leave (more likely to happen later in the game if you have put off doing the main quest). This bug makes the main quest line fail to continue. No workaround for this other than reloading a previous save from before the word is presented to you. — Unsigned comment by 67.139.223.10 (talk) at 09:57 on 11 May 2012

This needs verification. --Xyzzy 17:17, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

I can verify that this happens because I myself have experienced this glitch and have been forced to load a previous save. сειεςτίαι (talk) 04:02, 13 March 2013 (GMT)Celestial 22:59, 11 March 2013 (EDT)

[edit] No frost troll

I went up the 7,000 steps for the first time on this character, and where I expected to see the frost troll, it was not there! My character is level eight. I wonder if this has to do with being a low level? 68.1.172.2 04:17, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Update: Actually, the frost troll exists, instead of spawining on the wall just before the fifth emblem where he usually does I found him running down the path way after the fifth emblem. This is very unusual. I've never seen this before. 68.1.172.2 04:20, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
  • I have seen the troll appear in various locations in the area, just because I did a fair amount of experimenting with it. I think if you are walking along at a normal pace and following the trail, it will pretty much be the same experience of the troll jumping down onto the trail from the cliff. If you are sneaking (perhaps), or if you pause, or walk around at all because you're looking for it, it's likely to appear nearby, but not necessarily jumping onto the path in front of you from the cliff. --JR (talk) 04:40, 12 January 2013 (GMT)

[edit] Needs rewording

From article:

  • Not sure if this is really a bug, but when climbing the steps and before actually making troll jump off the cliff, you may try to reach the dragon flying above with an arrow. He then may end up fighting the troll (some buggy animation appeared on my XBOX), letting you kill both the dragon (weakened by the troll) and then the troll (weakened by the dragon).

This needs to be reworked majorly for formal tone and to remove the first-person voice used here. --Somercy (talk) 11:16, 18 September 2012 (GMT)

There is no dragon near the troll--at least if you do the quest before you reach the level at which dragons begin to spawn. --JR (talk) 04:36, 12 January 2013 (GMT)

[edit] Possible Dragonborn Target Glitch

I reached the point of the quest where I was instructed to strike the targets but was unable to rendering me stuck at quest stage 80. I manually set the stage to 105 so whirlwind sprint appeared outside and then set the stage to 140 and was able to continue from that point. Attempt to change the quest global for MQ105 Targets Hit (spaced added due to censor) didn't update the quest log and attempting to advance to any intermediate stages did not work as Bori continued to create images rather then following the new stage pathing outside. If anyone could verify that would be great. Lasserith - 2/5/13 — Unsigned comment by 108.250.53.155 (talk) at 22:42 on 5 February 2013

I can confirm not being able to hit targets with dragonborn DLC. --67.163.253.65 18:44, 13 February 2013 (GMT)
Same problem here, not hitting targets, have dragonborn DLC. Feb 21st 2013 — Unsigned comment by 99.241.114.140 (talk) at 17:45 on 21 February 2013
Same as above. Setting the quest stage to 90 continues the quest and skips the least amount of quest. The counter remains at 0/3 though even when MQ105 Targets Hit is set to 3. — Unsigned comment by 94.209.197.134 (talk) at 16:37 on 2 March 2013

[edit] Bug Workaround Needs Verification

I have removed this edit by User:Kitdoctor for the 'Ro' bug. Quote follows:

If this does not work, when the first apparition appears, type this in the console: setstage mq105 82. When the second apparition appears, type: setstage mq105 85. When the third apparition appears, type: setstage mq105 90. The quest will advance even though it only shows you completed 0 out of 3.

Can this be verified by anyone before it's put on the page? ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 09:59, 14 February 2013 (GMT)

I was just stuck there and it did indeed fix me.
Dracorat (talk) 02:08, 25 February 2013 (GMT)
Hi there, i just tried it as i encountered that bug. Setting the questtages after each of the apparitions worked just fine.
Thank you. [25.02.2013, 15:20] — Unsigned comment by 84.150.170.123 (talk)
Console work around does work
"setstage mq105 90" is enough to bypass this bug.
--Southern Discomfort (talk) 15:46, 27 February 2013 (GMT)
Changing quest stages to 82 and 85 as recommended didn't work for me, although I didn't test it thoroughly. I did, however, discover that if you time your unrelenting force shout so that it hits the target just as it's disappearing it will count as a hit. More specifically, during the less than one second interval where the ghost target is completely invisible but before it actually despawns. Purely speculation, but maybe it has something to do with animations? The target doesn't go into its stagger animation when you hit it normally, but if you hit it during its bow out animation while it's disappearing, it counts. (at least for me it did.) — Unsigned comment by 96.8.242.83 (talk) at 02:17 on 4 March 2013
This (above) worked for me as well. You have to get the timing right (I counted to about 7 before shouting)and it seemed to count as a hit 26 March 2013
Ran into the same bug. Setting the quest stages worked fine and I was able to do the rest of the quest normally. Aparently the targets are invulnerable to shouts since I managed to shout down every greybeard and item in the room. — Unsigned comment by 84.128.255.182 (talk) at 19:46 on 16 March 2013
