Hermir working at the forge

Hermir Strong-Heart is a Nord blacksmith who works at the outdoor forge in Windhelm. She works alongside Oengul War-Anvil as an assistant and the two can often be heard fighting with each other over who is using which tools. If Oengul dies, Hermir takes over running the Blacksmith Quarters on her own.

She wears iron armor, boots, and gauntlets, and carries an iron dagger, a key to the blacksmith, and a selection of common items and gold.

She thinks very highly of Ulfric Stormcloak and his rebellion and strongly opposes the Empire. She will frequently tell the player that "Working in Windhelm is great. I get to see Ulfric up close." and "Every Nord should admire Ulfric. He fights for all of us."

She will not hestitate to talk about her devotion to the Stormcloaks and she can often be heard passing remarks such as "If a Stormcloak uses one of my swords to strike down an Imperial soldier, then I've done my part to free our land." and "Smithing isn't the most exciting thing for me, but we all have to lend a hand as best we can."

If the player joins the Legion and defeats the Stormcloaks she will frequently remark "You. Everytime I see you my blood boils." She will also continue to show her loyalty by saying "I make no secret of it. I don't care if the Empire controls the city or not, I won't hide my loyalty to the dream of a free Skyrim." However, she will also be devestated by the death of Ulfric and when asked about this fact she will reply with "Ulfric fought for that dream with more courage and honor than any Nord who ever lived. But now he's gone, and the dream is gone with him." before telling the player that "But I'll be ready when a new leader takes up the cause. As sure as ice is cold and stone is hard, I'll be ready."

[edit] Conversations

The player can often overhear Oengul and Hermir having small arguments or conversations when they're working at their forge. There is a total of three possible conversations that the player can witness:

Oengul: "Did you use my good hammer?"
Hermir: "No."
Oengul: "Blast, girl, I told you to leave my tools alone. You have yours and I have mine."
Hermir: "I didn't touch it!"
Oengul: "Hammers don't have legs."
Hermir: "Did you look behind the forge? I think I saw it there."
Oengul: "Oh... yes. Now that you mention it, I think... sorry about that."

Hermir: "Is Ulfric's armor done yet?"
Oengul: "No, I want to take my time with it."
Hermir: "Can I help with it? Maybe just the cuirass?"
Oengul: "This is more delicate work than you're used to."
Hermir: "I did that engraved piece just last month!"
Oengul: "This is the royal armor, lass. Maybe in a few years."

Oengul: "Have you been learning your ores?"
Hermir: "I think I've got a handle on it, but Orichalcum is confusing."
Oengul: "Don't even bother with that one. Leave it to the orcs."
Hermir: "Oh, right. That makes sense. Kind of a messy metal, anyway."
Oengul: "Exactly."

[edit] Notes

  • Although the Official Game Guide lists Hermir as an adept-level trainer for the Heavy Armor skill, the game guide is incorrect. She does not actually provide any training.
