The Akaviri were ancient invaders of Tamriel who created the Draconian Madstone.

The term "Akaviri" generally refers to the plethora of races existing in the continent of Akavir, which is roughly 4200 miles east of Tamriel.

There are quite a few references to these. There are the Akaviri Weapons that most of the Blades use, as well as to be found in some ruins. There are also multiple mentions to them in books across Oblivion. During the quest Lifting the Vale you even get to meet Mishaxhi, the ghost of an Akaviri Commander.

In Morrowind, there is a reference to Vivec teaching the Dunmer how to breathe underwater in order to flood Vvardenfell, killing Akaviri invaders. Cloud Ruler Temple is suggested to be an example of Akaviri architecture
