Galmar Stone-Fist is a Nord warrior who is the housecarl of Ulfric Stormcloak and the general of the Stormcloak rebellion in Windhelm.
Upon meeting Galmar, he is quick to test the player with a dangerous initiation test to prove his/her worth to the Stormcloak rebellion. According to Marise Aravel, killing an ice wraith is a common initiation rite for Nords, but Galmar admits he did not expect the protagonist to return alive. But nonetheless, Galmar inevitably accepts the player's recruitment and discusses the tasks for the player. Throughout the Stormcloak quests, Galmar, stationed in various Stormcloak camps, will meet the player to discuss the Liberation of Skyrim. He also has a brother named Rolff Stone-Fist who seems to hate the Dunmer.
He fought for the Empire in the Great War, but now he hates the Empire and the Thalmor with a fury. He seems to have a general distrust of non-Nords despite allowing them into the Stormcloaks, and can often be heard making remarks such as "Ready to spill some Imperial blood for Skyrim?" and this hatred is summed up when he tells the player that "My hatred for the Empire is exceeded only by my hatred for their witch-elf puppet-masters."
He wears standard Stormcloak Officer equipment and wields a two-handed Iron Battleaxe in battle.
If the player instead sides with the Imperial legion and kills Galmar, he will be seen in Sovngarde.

[edit] Bugs
- When you're fighting in Dragonsreach for the Battle of Whiterun, if you accidently hit him hard (fireball for spellcasters for example, or he charges into your powerattacks or so), he will start attacking you, and will not say, "There's a burning city outside" to end the conversation between Vignar Gray-Mane and the Jarl, which makes the quest uncompletable.
- Paying your bounty in Windhelm will allow you to speak to Galmar.
- Galmar may not complete Joining the Stormcloaks properly if Season Unending is an active quest.
This bug is fixed by version 1.4 of the Official Skyrim Patch.
